However, the Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, indicated that the Yenagoa blasts were linked to upcoming governorship elections and not Islamist sect, Boko Haram which claimed responsibility for the Kano attacks.

If the governor confirms that the blasts were linked to upcoming elections, perpetrators must have been identified. The Governor should produce the perpetrators for arrest and prosecution immediately - abi he himself is the one responsible for the act?

President Badluck knows those that are behind it,he told us after the independent bomb blast but being a coward he is, he cannot bring them to book.

Barely hours after bombs and gun attacks in Kano as explosions were reported to have rocked parts of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, late Friday night.

The Police Public Relations Officer, in Bayelsa Mr Emakpae Eguavoen, confirmed that the explosions took place at the Tombia market bridge, leading to Amasoma, where the Niger Delta University is located, and at the Peace Park roundabout Onopa opposite the government house.

The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) spokesman in Bayelsa Lt.-Col. Timothy Antigha also confirmed that two explosions rocked parts of Yenagoa at about midnight on Friday but there were no casualties.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Hilary Opara, after confirming the blasts, said that some miscreants might be trying to create the impression that there was insecurity in Bayelsa because Vice-President Namadi Sambo was expected in Bayelsa on Monday.

The dynamite planted on the bridge exploded, creating a crater on one side of it.

While the police say the blast at the Tombia Bridge, was carried out with local dynamite, details are still sketchy about the peace park explosion.

(AP) LAGOS, Nigeria — Police say unknown bombers detonated locally made dynamite near an important bridge in Nigeria's oil-rich southern delta overnight, though no one was injured.

The blast happened Friday night in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa state, the home of President Goodluck Jonathan. Bayelsa state police spokesman Eguavoen Emokpae said the bomb targeted a bridge, but caused little damage.

The blast occurred as Bayelsa state is under increasing political pressure over an upcoming gubernatorial race in the state. The winner of the race will control a state budget that's larger than some nations surrounding oil-rich Nigeria. Violence remains common in elections in Nigeria, a nation of more than 160 million people and a top crude oil supplier to the U.S.

and like gej, if na pdp the winner will do fk all with the budget

Let sleeping dogs lie. Whatever bad news coming from Bayelsa State is the handiwork of Jonathan(looks like Mr Goodluck's hand is not filled at the moment with Boko Haram and Oil Subsidy), he should have allowed SYLVIA have a second term. At least all the Governors in the South-South prevailed on the President on behalf of SYLVIA but he would not bulge.
