President Goodluck Jonathan Should Just Please Step Down. by BigB11(m): 7:33pm On Jan 21, 2012
It is now almost 24 hours after the explosions in Kano and Beyelsa, and our number 1 leader, president Goodluck Jonathan is yet to address the nation. The entire country is scared, confused and pretty much hopeless.
This is absolutely not the Nigeria we all envisioned just 9 months ago. What happened and where is the leadership in this country?
Let us all set aside our differences and totally reject any senseless sentiments; it is what it is, it is clearly apparent now that this president is a nice man, but absolutely not the right person for this serious position at this very critical moment in Nigeria.

It will simply be pleasant if all Nigerians come together to persuade president Goodluck Jonathan to show the entire world that his integrity, as a person and as a man remains intact, if he bites the bullet and PLEASE steps down as the president of this wonderful country. Or else many innocent Nigerians (especially children, senior citizens and Mr.Nobody) will unnecessarily suffer severely for the next 10 years.

Nigeria is my motherland and an incredible country that badly needs competent and experienced leadership in-charge; and definitely not what we're being fed for the past 6 months. We deserve better.

Personal feelings and sentiments among all Nigerians should be set aside in determining the right future we deserve.

Who exactly has resigned before in a situation like this in the history of the world. Must he be the first to do so as to please you and others that sworn to make Nigeria ungovernorable for him. Why can't we criticise constructively without ulterior motive but with intention to force a better government.

Re: President Goodluck Jonathan Should Just Please Step Down. by Depilot(m): 8:07pm On Jan 21, 2012
If GEJ steps down, then Boko haram has won.
It shouldn't be about who is winning or losing, it should be about doing what is right by protecting the citizens at all times.
When a president is missing in action for 24 hrs after the eruption of major explosions across Nigeria, who's winning or losing? My answer is, the citizens are the ones losing.
Nigeria has now been labelled as an ungovernable state and all major countries around the world are now warning their citizens  not to go to Nigeria or to pull out of Nigeria as soon as possible.
How long should we wait for Jonathan to come up with a decent plan to safe this country?
All I know is, people are suffering and dying day after day like no man's business. What exactly is being done to protect the citizens? Who is funding Boko Haram? What is in place to prevent more attacks? And how do we move forward?
These are all the questions our president should be discussing at this time.
Missing in action will only send wrong message not only to the citizens, but also to Boko Haram and the world.
We can not continue like this, something tangible has to be done right away.

NEW: Military official tells CNN that at least 156 people were killed
The Red Cross in Abuja reports 50 injuries
Nigeria closes its borders with Niger and Cameroon and imposes a state of emergency
The Islamist militant group Boko Haram claims responsibility

Lagos, Nigeria (CNN) -- Nigeria imposed a 24-hour curfew Saturday in the northern city of Kano after assailants killed scores of people and wounded others in a hail of gunfire and coordinated bombings of eight government sites.

A military official told CNN that at least 156 people were dead and feared the number would rise.

"The hospitals are not equipped to deal with the influx and severity of the injuries, so we are expecting that figure to go up further," the official said.

Nwankpa Nwankpa, a Red Cross information officer in the capital, Abuja, said 50 people were injured in the attacks. He said that search and rescue operations are underway and volunteers are working to assist the injured. . . . .

And so far, nothing yet has been addressed by Mr.President.

Even if GEJ has the power in the whole world he can't do much without the co-operation of the northerners who called themselves leaders, its obvious they are in support of Boko Haram, so if he send in troops into that region they are going accused him of militarising their zone and all sort of bulllshitts, I suggest he  leave them to their lots till they are ready to co-operat with him to solve the problem.

When America and Nato were not having the cooperation of Afgaans and Irakis they could'nt do much and Nigeria/GEJ would'nt work magic without co-operation.

Thats not going to happen.

The last time I checked the next election is 3years away.

If the reason people are blowing up the country here and there is so that the President will be asked to step down, I am sorry they have 3 long years of terror to engage in as the President is going no where!

Not a fan of GEJ but he must remain in power until the next election.

We must not as a Nation give in to the will of terrorists!

No disrespect, but this question sounds like is from an extremely hopeless and depressed entity.

Nigeria is a wonderful country full of bright creative people, if we are sensible enough to set aside personal feelings, personal agenda and sentiments, I'm confident that we will come up with a sincere, focused, and competent replacement.
And believe it or not, it all depends on us, Nigerians.

We must not as a Nation give in to the will of terrorists!

First, the idea to nicely persuade Mr.President to step down is not to support terrorists, it is absolutely senseless for anyone to prescribe such.
Our goal here is to prevent more attacks, stabilize the economic, reduce government senseless spending, eradicate corruption and protect the citizens.
And it is clearly apparent that this list is extremely challenging for Mr.President to attain. He has no glue of where to start or where to stop. He seems to be completely out of touch with the entire nation he has been elected to lead. It simply makes sense to allow this dude to step aside and do whatever needs to be done to rescue this nation from the hands of the unGodly entities.
If this doesn't happen right away, the foundation of  this nation will eventually crumble, and innocent citizens are usually the victims, and not the politicians that brought us this low.

Moreover,  Mr.President has already given up too many times in the past. Once again, his disappearance at this very critical moment in Nigeria has confirmed that he has no glue, no will and absolutely not the right person for this serious position.

And folks, it shouldn't be about anybody, but all about restoring our great country back to normal.
Again, personal feelings and sentiments among all Nigerians should be set aside in determining the right future we deserve.

Ayatollah Buhari Bin Laden LOST the fairest presidential election in Nigerian history, Big Bee, so nobody is going to install him in the magical way of your dreams.  More to the point, Buhari is scheduled for arrest before long, to face the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, where he will answer to charges arising from his instigation of election-season massacres in northern Nigeria, with further counts for his CENTRAL role in the current suicide bombing campaign decimating human life in the same area.  Buhari's offence of political genocide is identical in every respect to that of former Ivorian president Gbagbo, who now awaits trial while languishing in the protective custody of that court.

Unless you  hope to personally replace a democratically elected president by force of arms, your dream hasn't a snowball's chance in hell of translating into the reality outside of your quaint imagination.  Your former paymasters, expired former military tyrants all, are either dying like Babangida, or stark raving mad like Ayatollah Buhari, and as such are in no shape to preside over anything more significant than a seniors' bowling tournament.

The party really is is over dude.  Give it up and save yourself the effort, for it will amount to nothing in the long run.  Jonathan Goodluck was elected to serve a four-year term as Nigeria's president, which is precisely what he will do, no matter how many bombs are set off on the orders of geriatric former despots even as they lurch towards oblivion.
Re: President Goodluck Jonathan Should Just Please Step Down. by Nobody: 9:45pm On Jan 21, 2012
We have an elected President recognised by the laws of the land.

We also have a Legislature who can impeach the President if need be.

So to talk about extra-constitutional means at this point like persuading the President to step down is irresponsible.
We are trying to be a Nation governed by the rule of law, not some Mafia family.

the only responsible thing right now is to either support the President to govern better, or organise a new political movement to defeat the President in 2015 election or provide evidence to pressure the NASS assembly to impeach the President.

Anything other than these is extra constitutional and a recipe for catalysis. No back room talks to persuade the President to resign.

By the way why are you so confident that the attacks will stop if the President resigns? it makes me think his very presence in the office in the reason for the attacks in the first place? I am sorry that will not happen. The next election is 2015. Boko Haram can blow up the country all the like but Jonathan must remain in office. He has the people's mandate to do so!

My man, we are on the same side.
Apart from going to see the victims and crying a couple of days after xmas, Mr. President hasn't done anything tangible to seriously stop this attacks. He has no plans and he finds it very challenging to come out and address the nation.
As we speak, the dude is still in his bedroom hidding.
What kind of leader is this?

Honestly, if the praise singers around Mr. President could only just allow this dude to be himself, I think president Jonathan would have stepped down a couple of months ago.
If you pay attention to his facial expression, his broken voice, his empty speeches and his disappearance when he's needed the most, it wouldn't take you too long to clearly realize that he is tired, he has no idea, he has no will or motivation, he is frustrated, and pretty much sick to his stomach at this point; absolutely unlike a true leader that we need in Nigeria at this very critical moment.

Mr.President should just do himself and Nigerians a favor, and simply step down.
Re: President Goodluck Jonathan Should Just Please Step Down. by Nobody: 10:12pm On Jan 21, 2012
It is simplistic to blame Jonathan for not stopping Boko Haram.

The fact is if Boko Haram is truly a terror organisation with international links to Al-Qaeda. Then I am sorry Nigeria will struggle to stop them no matter who the President is. Except we have some Superman or Clark Kent lurking out there, to suggest that anyone else would succeed in stopping an Al-Qaeda linked Boko Haram is pure fantasy.

The other theory will be if this is political and people are just blowing the country up because an Ijaw man is in power. That will be unfortunate because some other parts of the country put up with incompetent Hausa-Fulani leadership of this country for so long. So if the country will go in flames at this time because an Ijaw man is President then so be it.

This country belongs to no ethnic group in particular and to suggest that the way to stop Boko Haram from blowing up the country is to encourage Jonathan to step down is simply very very disgraceful.

My man, It has been over 6 months since Mr president has been elected. During this 6 months, over 50 explosions have happened, over 1400 innocent citizens have died and over 500 were injured.
And yet there isn't a single plan put together by Mr.President to either identify who is responsible for these attacks or to prevent more attacks from taking place.
Whenever there is an explosion or attack, His METHOD OF OPERATION is to simply disappear for a couple of days without saying a thing and then return days later to cry. What kind of leadership style is this?

Again, as we speak our president is still in his bedroom hidding. What kind of leader can we label this as?

Therefore, President Goodluck Jonathan has left us with absolutely nothing but to persuade him to pull the plug and release himself and Nigerians from this unbearable misery.

We've only asked for a few, but millions showed up; leadership is not for everybody.

It is not by force!
Re: President Goodluck Jonathan Should Just Please Step Down. by Nobody: 10:30pm On Jan 21, 2012
BTW Nigeria is simply not equiped to tackle 21st century terror. We dont even have the spirit of fairness to succeed in the face of terror. You fight international terror with a comprehensive immigration policy, a secured boarder, a society that works, a police alive to its duty, a military that understands the meaning of National Security Interest and a patriotic members of the public!

The reason this brand of terrorism is finding succur in the North is because for so long Northern leaders tolerated the Almajiri mess. You have young men who grew up with no hope and no love just waiting in the wings to take part in the next violence and kill whoever does not look like them. Was it Jonathan who created Almajiri?

During my service year some years ago in Sokoto (Bodinga LGA). I came accross students who had no clue about anything in Maths, English, History, Science. I mean a whole class getting "F" in Juniour WAEC in these subjects but a resounding "A" in Arabic studies and Islamic studies. Is there anything else they were learning in Islamic and Arabic studies other than how anybody who does not believe in their religion is an infidel and does not deserve to live?

How about a situation where not too long ago some Northern States against the provision of the Federal consitution introduced Sharia Law as a state wide law in their States?

These events were the precursors to the extremisms we are now seeing and the North tolerated it. And quite frankly even if you relocate FBI and MI5 put together to Nigeria. If the Hausa Fulani people refuse to co-operate with the security agencies to point out who in their midst is setting the country on fire, not much progress can be made.

So the insecurity we are exprencing is the consequence of 52years of failure of leadership and living in denial. To sugest otherwise is a bare faced lie!!!!
Re: President Goodluck Jonathan Should Just Please Step Down. by Nobody: 10:38pm On Jan 21, 2012
As we speak, a man arrested for xmas day bombing escaped from police custody allegedly with help from police officers from certain sections of the country.

How does any President secure such a divided country?

Do we have to purge the whole Military, police, Navy etc of Hausa Fulani people before we can defeat Boko Haram?

Please lets not continue to live in denial, the North needs to do some soul searching.

Not even setting off a Nuclear bomb in Nigeria will get Jonathan to quit office. He is the elected President and this madness will not achieve much!

First, thank God, I happen to belong to both religions; hence, I can clearly see both sides of the coin.

We do not know where these attacks are coming from or who is responsible. Therefore, to label any ethnic groups in Nigeria for the attacks is close to what I call despicable.
Instead of blaming anyone for something that is unclear at this moment is totally f00lish, instead, let us focus more on our number 1 man in the country, whose one of his responsibilities is to protect the citizens of this great nation.

As we speak Mr. president is still hidding in his bedroom.
He doesn't posses the skills, or experience or wisdom or courage to come out like a leader to address his followers at this very critical time in the country.
This action is completely absurd from every angle.

God knows that we badly need a leader in Nigeria, what we have at the moment is far from a true leader or what we deserve.

This is part of the living in denial I am talking about. Boko Haram originated from Maidugiri and this fact is in the public domain. Boko Haram has consistently claimed responsibility for these attacks through a man named Abdul Qaqa. We know what section of the country bears that name. Boko haram says they want the strictest form of sharia implemented in the country, what section of the country practices Sharia? The current members Boko Haram say the reason they are blowing up the country further is to protest the arrest of their members who are in jail. The identities of the arrested members show clearly what part of the country these people are from.

In fact the Boko Haram member who escaped from police Jail bears the surname Sokoto. What section of the country bears this name?

You can pretend not to know what section of the country these attacks emanate from eventhough the evidence point in a definite direction.

I think to even claim nobody knows what part of the country BokoHaram is from is even more shameful. BigB1 you should know by now not to play cheap politics with me old friend wink grin

Just because Boko Haram originated from Maiduguri doesn't mean the northerners are directly responsible for these despicable attacks.
The funding could be coming from anywhere in Nigeria or world. In fact, a yoruba or Igbo man may be responsible. Who knows?
But to point fingers at any ethnic groups in Nigeria is absolutely not a sensible move.

It is still in the record that Afghanistans are not the folks responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Bin Laden and 99% of the people that carried out the attacks from Afghanistan were from other countries. Yet, unfairly Afghanistan citizens are still paying for these attack up till today.

My point, Boko Haram may originates from any part of the country, that doesn't mean who is responsible is from northern Nigeria.
Without any questions, it should be President Jonathan's top priority to identify who is responsible and prevent more attacks. But clearly it seems that Mr. President has no glue or will to get his job done effectively and efficiently.

And this why we are calling for a real leader to come and rescue  our future. What we currently have is absolutely far, may be too far from a true leader and what Nigerians deserve at this critical moment.

When your laws are not working for an average citizen, it means it's time to revise the laws and move forward.
And I think this is what will happen eventually.

Things can not continue this way any longer. Too many innocent lives are being wasted on a regular, while our president continues to hide in his bedroom.
