Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital, Friday, erupted in celebration as the news of the ouster of Governor Timipre Sylva by the Supreme Court hit the air wave.

Immediately, the police authorities sealed off the Creek Haven Government House, in Bayelsa State ostensibly to prevent looting of the place.

Heavily armed policemen barricaded the Onopa end of the  Mbiama-Yenagoa road leading to the Government House and it was closed to traffic.

When Vanguard visited the area armed  policemen were sighted diverting traffic to the Lambert Eradiri road connecting the DSP Alamieyeseigha way to the other parts of Yenagoa.

Armed policemen were also deployed around the Peace Park, directly opposite the Government House, stopping visitors from gaining entry into the amusement park.

It was jubilation galore at the popular Swali  Market and other parts of Yenagoa traders and residents chanted songs to celebrate the exit of Governor Timipre Sylva.

Most of the pubs and other relaxation joints witnessed heavy turn-out of customers as many stormed the beer parlours, reveling over the court verdict.

As at press time, the state Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri was yet to swear in the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Nestor Binabor allegedly awaiting a certified copy of the court ruling.

It was gathered that a helicopter had already been despatched to Abuja to get the certified copies of the apex court ruling.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, Mr Hilary Opara, in an interview with newsmen said “Bayelsans should remain calm and law abiding. The government belongs to the people. If there is any change of leadership, a Bayelsan is going to be there”.

Oh Dear!
Expect more Boko Haram trouble down south.
Wasn't this the governor who threatened to unleash BH on his enemies? Now that he's in hiding, expect more mayhem in the SS.

@beaf,
i am as confused as jonathan when it comes to ur matter. how old are you? how on earth can you say nobody likes a governor? when the issue of fuel subsidy came up, were u aware that nigerians hate jonathan that much?
see, what the unsuspecting bayelsians are celebrating today will be an age long division in their polity. go and mark my word somewhere, until the end of this world, bayelsa will never speak with one voice as long as politics is concerned.
i want to draw your attention to the situation in 1983 when Jim Nwobodo who was then a member of NPP won the anambra gubanitorial election but because Alex Ekwueme was the then vice president and a member of NPN and by all means needed to deliever his state and as such rigged the election to the favour of C.C. Ono. the enemity and division is not only effective in the state today rather it is affecting the igbos as a whole and if you were observant enough, u would see Jim Nwobodo show up always as a joker to destroy whatsoever political ambition ekwueme nursed. many are against Nwobodo but how else can he get his much needed revenge.
jonathan is an agent of destruction and that he has proved from his home front and nigeria as a whole.
if you say sylva is not doing anything in bayelsa, point to things you did in the same state you left before him. at least, sylva's wife did not steal $13m belonging to bayelsa people.
i don't know sylva very well but i wish he is as strong as orji uzor kalu and bola tinubu that could stand any battle from these blood suckers - pdp.
a president whose citizens are dying in the hands of terrorists is busy chasing a governor around just to show his muscles.
i wish sylva is a kalu or tinubu to stand his ground without fear or favour.

I don't see how Silva is any more useless than GEJ was when he was governor. Timipre is just following in his oga's footsteps. Stealing money and refusing to help your people is now a proud government tradition in the south-south.

Until the ND governors get their acts together, non of them will ever set their greedy, corrupt feet in Aso Rock again. GEJ and his co-thieves have soiled the reputation of niger deltans forever.

So how come he won primary in 2011? Did PDP rig it for him?
