I Want Justice Nigerian Policemen Robbed Me At Gunpoint - Help ! by darne(m): 1:25am On Jan 31, 2012
Please Guys Read This,.

Citizen Olumide Aderibigbe was on his way to buy food in the company of a friend when armed policemen in mufti accosted them and ordered them to submit the money in their pocket. They were out to make quick money with guns bought with Nigeria's money.

Here is Olumide's story:
“Around 9pm on Thursday, my friend and I were,
walking towards Maryland Bus Stop to get food when two men on a motorcycle double-crossed us and ordered us to empty our pockets.

“One of the men remained on the motorcycle while the other came down and pointed a gun at us. The gun was wrapped with a newspaper but the barrel pointed out and I could see that it was a berretta pistol.”

Olumide said he told the men he had little money on him and pleaded with them to leave him alone but the men were reluctant.

“All I had on me was N400 which I immediately gave to them. They were about to go when they saw the shape of my phone protruding from my pocket and probably thought it was money.

“The guy with the gun demanded that I hand over my phone and I pleaded with him that I couldn’t because I had just bought the phone and hadn’t even finished paying for it.

“The man pulled down my trousers and while he was struggling with my belt, he attempted to shoot me but the gun got jammed. As he was attempting to fix the gun, I quickly kicked the gun away from him and it fell on the floor and we started fighting.

“One of them bit me in the chest while another one picked up a piece of wood and started beating me with it.”

While Olumide was fighting with the man, his friend seized the opportunity to escape.

“The incident aroused some people who came closer to see what was happening. Idi-Iroko end of Ikorodu Road has no functional traffic light, so people could not really see what was going on. They were scared of coming close but I kept on shouting, ‘please save me, armed robbers want to kill me!”

Olumide said a motorist summed up courage to intervene and separated him and the armed man from fighting but the incident took a sudden twist.

“The two men identified themselves as policemen and they said they would take me along with them to their station after telling people that I was an armed robber and they came to arrest me.

“I begged the crowd not to allow the men to take me away because I feared they would kill me the moment we left there.

“Luckily for me, because I live in the area, some of the people there recognised me and my neighbour who was there, immediately invited policemen from the Anthony Police Division to intervene.”

They were all moved to the station.
“The policeman on duty at the station, one Mr. Williams Osaboro, an assistant superintendent of police, told me to leave because it was around 11pm. He promised to handle the matter and asked me to report the next day and to make a statement.

“Around 2am I saw the same policemen near my compound looking for something but I was not really sure what it was.

“It was the next morning that I discovered that it was their identity cards that they were looking for.Unfortunately for them, they did not see the cards as one of my neighbours had taken them.”

It was gathered that the names on the police identity cards and expired driving licence respectively were; Mr. Junaidu Yahaya, a police corporal with force number, 366374 and one Chukwusa Anthony.

Olumide said on getting to the police station the next day, he was disappointed with the manner the police addressed the situation.

“When I got to the station, the policeman on duty told me to leave, saying that the case had been sorted out and I should be thankful to God that I wasn’t killed.

“I further learnt that the policeman had been released without even making a statement and their gun was returned to them.”

But Olumide is not giving up. He is urging the police authorities to look into the matter.

“Why would policemen engage in robbery? It’s very disheartening because these are people charged with the duty of fighting crime yet they go about robbing people. I want the police authorities to do something about this. I know the identity of the man who robbed me,” he said angrily.

It was however learnt that the Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Ademola Raji, had got wind of the situation and might have ordered an investigation into the sad issue.

I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF THIS GETS TO THE FRONT PAGE, HOW ARE WE GOING TO BE SAFE WHEN WE HIRED ARM ROBBERS TO PROTECT OUR LIVES AND PROPERTIES,, I READ THIS GUYZ STORY ON A WEBSITE AND FEEL LIKE SHARING IT, ITS PAINFUL AND IT COULD BE ANY ONE , IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO YOU OR ME, CORRUPTION ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY, WHAT A SHAME tongue tongue embarassed embarassed cry cry cry cry cry angry angry angry

OP Please be careful next time. Having read your story and the way the event was twisted at the expense of the police I would say you should thank you God for saving you. Those guys could have planted the gun the gun against you and lied that you were an armed robber. You could have been lynched to death by the mob or even shot at by the 'armed robber' police. There exist stories of innocent people that have been murdered by this gun weilding rogues disgusies as police men. If you remeber the story of Modebayo Awosika, you will agree with me that it does not worth strugling with the police or better stll armed robbers.

pls pls n pls, its better Gov. Fashola knows about cos he is the only one i as a person know that can look into this matter cos the shooting that happened on my street (Ogba) during the subsidy protest, he actually said he is interested in the case and N.B.A ikeja branch came to tell us they are wf the hands of the N.P.Forking on getting the case out of the hands of N.PF so that is the only place one can seek justice for now.

God pass NPF sha

Corporals=WAEC holders(some forge WAEC too). They are the main problems in the Nigerian Police Force. If all of them can be remove, i believe the force will be better.

For real ?? how did this happen?

I think I posted it here on NL. it was at Ogunlana Round-About between 11:30-12:00 at night. it was a normal routine stop n' search that turned out to be a robbery when they found out i had cash. after trying to negotiate to dash them N3k (when they asked for N30k) out of the generosity of my heart. one pointed a gun through the window and said if i knew what was good for me i had better drop everything. wetin man go do. they were real policemen because until i was all alone they had been stopping and searching other vehicles on that road.

Coincidentally I ran into another checkpoint at stadium with one of the men and he stopped me. I pretended I had never seen him before

Next time, mark the policeman's face, find out his family members, and exact a hit. I know a policeman it happened to some years back. Got a guy detained and almost paid for it with his life one year later. He was accosted at a drinking joint by the same guy who was now with his homies, and they beat the policeman to an inch of his life.

Any police that messes with me or any of my family members will not go away free. He will lose something he cannot replace. For real!

The man who accused two policemen of robbery, Olumide Aderibigbe, and his uncle, Mr. Vincent Olatunde, said they were locked up with armed robbers at the Lagos State Police Command.
Aderibigbe had accused the policemen of robbing him at Idi-Iroko area of Ikorodu Road on January 19.
Metro learnt that Aderibigbe and Olatunde were invited by the police authorities to give statements at the command on Wednesday only to be detained on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Yakubu Alkali, when they got there.
Olatunde, who escorted his nephew to the command, said he was disappointed by the manner the police investigated the matter.
He said, “We arrived at the command on Wednesday afternoon with the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jaiyeoba Joseph; the Divisional Police Officer, Anthony, Mr.Ademola Raji; and the two policemen who were accused of robbery.
“Following instructions from the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Mr. Wale Olokode, we were taken to the X Squad, the department charged with handling police misdemeanours.
“However, on getting to X Squad, the policemen were too hostile during interrogation. All the policemen were shouting at us as if they wanted Aderibigbe to say the policemen did not rob him.”
Metro learnt that during the interrogation, the policemen claimed they got wind of a robbery in the area and saw Aderibigbe and mistook him for an armed robber.
Also, they claimed that they did not hold any gun when they confronted Aderibigbe, rather they said they only had a walkie-talkie.
Aderibigbe said, “The policemen claimed it wasn’t a gun but a walkie-talkie. If they say they were after armed robbers, was it a walkie-talkie they were going to use in confronting robbers or a real gun?
“Also, when they discovered I was not an armed robber, why did they still assault me and ask me to hand over my money?”
It was gathered that as the argument raged on during the interrogation, the officer in charge of X Squad ordered that Aderibigbe and his uncle be locked up pending investigations.
Olatunde said, “Our phones were seized and we were locked up in a cell at the back of the anti-robbery department. The place was damp and had no cross ventilation. We were over 40 in the small cell.
“We were neither given food nor water and were not allowed to receive visitors or even call our loved ones. There was no bed or chair and mosquitoes dealt with us. Ironically, the policemen who were supposed to be treated as robbery suspects were given preferential treatment and were only detained near the counter.”
Olatunde said his detention was illegal because the police authorities refused to register his arrest.
He said, “I had N27,000 in my pocket when we were taken to the cell. I asked the policemen by the counter to collect my valuables in case I got mugged in the cell but they refused. Rather, they ordered one of the robbery suspects in the cell whom they called ‘OC Torture’ to beat us up.
“I quickly seized the phone of one of the policemen and called my family to tell them that I was in police custody because no one knew my whereabouts.
“While we were in the cell, policemen would pass by and mock us saying, ‘see these armed robbers, lying against the policemen, we will deal with you, bastards!’
“When my wife finally came to the command, the policeman on duty demanded and collected N500 before she was allowed to see me.”
A police source, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said there were indications that Aderibigbe was indeed robbed, but added that the police authorities were attempting to cover up the crime.
He said, “The two policemen are not even from the same division. The one who allegedly robbed Aderibigbe is attached to Criminal Intelligence Bureau, while the other one, Junaidu Yahaya, is attached to a task force.
“Why hasn’t the police authorities gone to the crime scene to go and interrogate eyewitnesses? This should have been the first step instead of attempting to take sides with the policemen.
“Why should a complainant be locked up while the suspects were allowed to walk free? If police really want to change their public image, they should start by being truthful.”
When contacted, the PPRO said investigations were still on but said he was not aware of any inhuman treatment given to Aderibigbe and Olatunde.
“Investigations are still on. So, let’s be patient. I don’t know if the men were kept in the armed robbery cell but I know they have been released,” he said.

Heard this same story on Radio Lagos last week and in the middle of the story when the presenter made mention of Nigerian Police been involved in a robbery attack, she was cautioned and that ends the story. I was surprised and many people called in to the radio station but they could not give any reasonable reason why the story was cut short. It can only happen in 9ja
