From Retardeen countryman and fellow pdp member.

Below is an articulation of the real reasons behind the demonstrations as espoused by Mr. Bruce.
• There are 70 Ministers at the National level
• There are over 20 Special Advisers to the President
• Every Minister is entitled to 4 Special Assistants
• The Senate President earns 88 Million Naira ($ 533,333 or GH¢ 880,000) monthly
• His Deputy Earns 55 Million Naira ($333,333 or GH¢ 550,000) monthly
• Senators take home 14 Million naira ($84,848 or GH¢ 140,000) monthly
• It takes 1.4 Billion Naira ($8,484,848 or GH¢ 14,000,000) to maintain the National Assembly annually (25% of Nigeria’s GDP is used to feed people who only sit Tuesday – Thursday)
• Our Governors exhibit such level of opulence shunned by the richest nations in the world
• Our 2012 budget has a deficit component to it. We are supposed to borrow about 1.6 Trillion Naira ($9,696,969,696 or GH¢16,000,000,000). The National Assembly will be paid from that!
• Aso Rock will use 1 Billion Naira ($6,060,606 or GH¢ 10,000,000) of it to eat!
• Aso Rock will use another 1 Billion Naira ($6,060,606 or GH¢ 10,000,000) to fuel generators.
• The Vice President will use 58 Million Naira ($351,515 or GH¢ 580,000) to buy newspapers
• The office of Patience Jonathan (First Lady) will use 500 Million Naira ($3,030,303 or GH¢ 5,000,000) to speak bad English to you.
• We will spend close to 500 Billion Naira ($3,030,303,030 or GH¢ 5,000,000,000) on International Travels
• Your hospitals will have no drugs
• Your schools will still have no quality to train a world class scholar
• Your roads will still be death traps
• You will still be a local government unto yourself, providing water, security, power and social security!

Beaf:

If there is corruption, of course that should be dealt with, but rumour mongering is a disease.

These figures are true sir. Go to the website of the Ministry of Finance and scroll through the Presidency's budget. So, I really doubt they are just rumours

Extracted this from the budget sheet.

PURCHASE OF COMPUTER & ACCESSORIES: 90 HP DESKTOPS @N300,000 = N27,000,000; (II). 20 HP PRINTERS @ N150,000 = N3,000,000; (III). 60 NOS. UPS @ N55,000 = N3,300,000; (IV). 75 NOS. HP LAPTOPS @ N314,000 = N23,550,000 AND (V). 10 NOS. SCANNERS @ N190,000 = N1,900,000.

HP desktop normally 70k is now 300k each. HP printer at 30k each is now 150k. UPS is normally sold 20k. HP lapto at 314k each. I have give up on this govt

Also, if you scroll up the budget, another 265 million was allocated for computers. There is a lot of redundancy in the budget.

It tell us that these people dont have anything to offer the populace. If they can earnmark such huge amount for fuelling and lubricating(what?), it means all their promises on power can work, dat's why they ve made adequate provision for themselves in the budget at the expense of the poor masses.

Here is a simple question for you. How much more transparent is this Administration than others before it? Please do not say anything of FOI in your response.

Budgeting certain amount for an expenditure is not a crime provided there is detailed breakdown of how the figure was arrived at. However, the onus is incumbent on the Legislators who are to question whoever comes up to defend such ridiculous proposal. Secondly there should be a comparism to how much was approved previously and how they were spent.

Last year the Presidency refused to sign into law the annual budget because the Legislators approved 230 BN for themselves which was later reduced to 130 BN. It not compulsory that they amount should be approved.
