Four persons were feared dead on Monday in a bloody fight between Fulani nomads and community members along the Bayelsa-Delta area of the East-West Road.

Two members of the community were said to have died of machete wounds in the attack.

Our correspondents learnt that two members of the community were allegedly shot dead by soldiers deployed in the area to restore peace.

It was learnt that trouble started when cattle driven by the nomads invaded farmlands belonging to Ohoro community, Ughelli North in Delta State.

The farmers, who were angry over the destruction of their crops by the cattle, were said to have confronted the nomads.

A source said the nomads suddenly attacked two of the farmers with daggers, killing them on the spot.

Other farmers were said to have cried to their community members compelling the youth to go after the fleeing nomads.

A source told our correspondents that the youths combed the area for the nomads in a bid to avenge the killing of their kinsmen.

The source said, “The situation is tensed. The people are angry and they are looking everywhere for northerners. Most of the northerners are fleeing the area.”

The commotion, however, caused a traffic gridlock along the East-West Road, forcing most motorists and travellers to abandon their vehicles.

Another source said the incident led to complete breakdown of law and order, adding that it created panic in the area.

It was, however, learnt that the Joint Task Force has taken over the community in an effort to restore peace.

The Media Coordinator, JTF, Lt. Col. Timothy Antigha, confirmed the incident, saying nobody was killed by the soldiers.

He said, “There was crisis between some Fulani and a community in Delta North. The allegation is that some Fulani people killed two people from that community and there was a breakdown of law and order in that area. But the JTF is at the scene.

“Efforts are being made to calm down nerves with a view to commencing investigations in the allegation. It is not true that soldiers shot community persons. I have spoken to the commanding officer and he assured me there was no such thing.”

Meanwhile, there was tension in Asaba and neighbouring towns after the news of the Fulani killing of two Ohoro community members broke.

Its so unfortunate that indigens have become aliens in their  native lands. They kill us in the north and they come to kill us in the south too. This can not continue. We just gave to drive all the fulanis and Hausa out.
Dnt we have muslims in west? They are just here to destroy us.

dis is nothing but hatred by those who do not wish for d existence of one nigeria. they use every excuse to cause trouble. most of dis communities have fulani nomads living in those areas for ages without any such problems. all these atrocities being committed against d fulani started when d southern politicians & their tail d media began dis propaganda becos they see d fulanis & hausas as d only obstacle against dia disintegration plans should in case they decide to take up arms against d nigerian state.

one thing u ppl should be aware of is dat killing fulani nomads as an entity in your areas has a very ugly & devastating coinsequency far beyond what u could withstand. dis is not a threat. Becareful what u ppl are wishing 4. u love life 2 much. dis ppl are fighters & manliness 2 dem is when a fulani man travels from senegal 2 ND and return 2 tell d stories of of how he massacred enemies of his ppl. we oda tribes @least in d north know dat.

Re: Fulani Nomads, Soldiers Kill Four In N’delta by StarFlux: 10:25am On Jan 31, 2012
If hausa/fulani can't live peacefully with other Nigerians, they should leave Nigeria b4 someone go massacre them. It is limits as to how much beating people will take before they react. I do not hold hatred towars them, but obviously they have issues adjusting themselves to society. They can go back to Somalia anytime they want, no one will bother them there.

So this is the best solution, abi? they wan come make wahala, go back to your fellow muslims. these people sef.

“ by saying that southerners should leave the
northern part of the country, what they are calling for is more or less
trying to divide the country”.  - General Gowon

If this can come from the same Gowon, we are creating more enmity to each other on daily basis.
Living peacefully, side by side as different entities remains the ultimate, as Nigeria keep soaring.

angry The fear of Jungle justice kept dare devil thieves and murderers calm for fear of being a victim. The fear of mob action to these class of people was worse than the thought of Police intervention or Gun-battles, but when all that is lost in the senseless senses of cattlemen, to such extent that a mere protest for trespass by subsistence farmers and fishermen can be interpreted as enough reason to murder in territories were these cattlemen were received as symbiotic guests.
To the Aboki associating "The Fulani manliness" in this action as a reason for calm, what's the meaning of that , You've been guest all this while but you definitely do not know Niger Delta as a people.

I have seen those idiots almost slaughter a gate-man at the gate of one of the universities in the south-east one early morning as I was going for lectures. What amazed me was the manner with which they escaped. They just took the central position while the troop of cows surrounded them and with a whistle-like sound, the cows started running with them while they shielded them on the run. It is difficult to share a home with animals, talkless of wild animals like this. May God help us in this forced union.

Fulani or no fulani. Boko haram or no boko haram.
Death is inevitable and even if we live for a hundred and fifty years each we will stil die.
So why fear boko haram?
The time has come and indeed the season is here when we in the south should dump our hate for each other and unit with our brothers in the east and west and even form an alliance with the middle belt like we did in the last general election, and enlist into the army as soon as the need arises and figth our common enermy, boko haram(the north) head-on.
If we do this, we will defeat the north in less than 3 months and forge our enviable strong republic and let boko practice their islamic republic of poverty, miningitis, polio, measles, massacre etc.
I wish those in govt from idoma in benue to badagary in lagos can wake up from thier day dreaming to realise that this game call Nigeria is over.
Re: Fulani Nomads, Soldiers Kill Four In N’delta by adamaw2tuf: 12:07pm On Jan 31, 2012
alhj_boko haram by the way is not a fulani/hausa but a yoruba person whose parent benefites a lot from supporting every devilish deed being done by his masters (hausa/fulani) so dont be deceived, cos his masters made him feel he ll be more respected when attached himself to them a lot.
Re: Fulani Nomads, Soldiers Kill Four In N’delta by kinguwem: 12:32pm On Jan 31, 2012
It is a shame that this country is dependent on nomadic cattle rearing for beef and dairy products. Some of this nomads are criminals and agents of Boko Haram. Most of them are illiterates and ill-tempered. They are usually involved in violent community clashes. The government and security agents should curtail their activities.
