Dear NLanders,

Since sanusi lamido sanusi the all-knowing genius central bank governor came to power and found banks like oceanic, bankphb, intercontinental and

afribank to be on the brink of collapse inspite of the numerous and intimidating asset base of these banks and banks like access, ecobank, skye, unity to be more viable and vibrant i do not know the premise of his anticedents that a bank like UNITY bank with little or no presence to be stronger that the liquidated banks i feel there is more to this than meets the eyes.

Anyone with experience in banking operations and liquidity ratio should enlighten us more

Banking business is a conservative business that have been bastardized by the CEO/Promoters through glamourization, Afribank and the likes may have intimidating assets in terms of structures and building. All this does not translate to liquidity which is the mainstay of their business, this is all what all those banks don't have, am not unity bank counsel, but the commitmnent put in by the northern governors in making sure that the bank did not collapse is what is still keeping it today.

Just like other have contributed, it's simple math,  Other banks were liquidated because they were saddled with a whole lot of liabilities (debts) while the other had less debts outstanding. Is it not better to be worth $10 and be strong than to worth $100 yet $95 is debt. They sure weren't liquid enough (ability to convert assets into cash) hence their downfall.

Oh btw you said assets right, ask Jarus, he's an accountant, he will explain better for you how assets, liabilities and OE are inter-related to each other. Asset or not, if you're not liquid enough (cash and cash equivalents either savings or loans), no matter how big you are, whether you own the "downed twin towers" you're definitely going down. Ask Lehman Brother execs, they will tell you. Look into AIG, Freddie Mac and Sallie Mae, they will show you.
