All local cuncil results have arrived at the Bayelsa state collation centre after an initial delay of results from Southern Ijaw and Brass Local Government areas. The collation of the results has also been completed.

At the moment, the trend shows that the People's Democratic Party, PDP is in the clear lead with 417 500 votes, or about 80% of the total so far counted.

The People’s Democratic Party’s candidate in the Bayelsa state election, Henry Seriake Dickson has been declared the Governor-elect of Bayelsa.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, the PDP won with 419,509. Its closest rival was the CAN with 9,627 votes.

Governor-elect, Dickson is a lawyer who has served the state as Commissioner of Justice and is a House of Representatives member.

He has pin-pointed tourism, infrastructure and human capital development as areas of focus for his government.

In a recent interview, he said of his “Restoration Agenda”, “Restoration means restoring the lost glory. There was glory. It was lost at a time and we are now restoring it. The components of the restoration agenda are many. We don’t really have time. What I will not fail to do is the priority, education we have in the restoration agenda. As I mentioned at the rally it is the most important challenge facing this society.

“This society unknown to many is actually sitting on a time bomb. Not just Bayelsa State so many states in the Niger Delta. There are so many places, so many societies, you can’t even go there. They have lost those communities and so many generations of young people to illiteracy, wrong and unproductive education and unemployment. We are going to massively tackle that in a revolutionary manner. And then invest in human capital development.

“Then infrastructure, we are going to commence that. We will work round the clock to ensure that people have good road. Then the issue of value orientation is also very important because no matter the amount of money a state government has if the right values are not there, if there is a leadership problem, you can’t really do much. We’ve got a lot to do to educate these people. Also, security is also very important. We actually want to showcase this state as a major tourism destination.”

INEC is improving how it conducts the polls, but the politicians are damaging the system.

The farce called an election in Bayelsa state should be a wake-up call to President GEJ that the Nigerian system needs a bold new direction. One in which problems are correctly identified and solutions are based on a people oriented approach.

Here is another elected official promising a "Restoration Agenda". I guess Governor-Select Dickinson realized the wisdom of staying away from the phrase "Transformation Agenda". That reduces the number of available, high-sounding, phrases by which our so-called administrators described their mediocre plans and expectedly abysmal performance.

GEJ selected Dickinson for Bayelsa, and to the suffering people of this rich state I say "Goodluck" to you on that !!!

The margin is really much. showing that Yes Bayelsa needs a change even if its any kind of change but a change in govt is what they need and we hope this will be the best for them.

Just yesterday the president of Nigeria and the press were lamenting the low turnout for this election and now we see over 80% "actually" voted. What a miracle. Only in Nigeria!!!!!!!

So with all the voter apathy, you still get over 450,000 votes , A cursed generation always live to his name! So long as these crop of politicians remain in charge in Niger Delta except Edo State, that region will remain under developed!

While your point is noted, but lets not misconstrue what the report says. It is not 80% of total voters registered for the polls, rather 80% of total vote cast -two completely different things, meerKat

Bayelsans need to form a pan-ijaw party to wean themselves from centrally controlled Pdp. SW have Acn, IN SE APGA will complete its Pdp kick-ass in 2015.

The PDP will continue to win elections until the opposition decides to rise above regional politics. What effort did the ACN as a party make to "promote" their candidate to the people of Bayelsa. During elections we see PDP party stalwarts including enemies, come together and smile to the people. The PDP goes far and wide to each and every local govt promoting their candidates.

For national elections, the PDP train visited all the 36 states in Nigeria. How many states did ACN go to? How many states did the CPC go to?  Until these guys begin to take politics as serious business like the PDP has done, they won't go far.

Forget bribbery and all what not that the PDP may have used to win elections. Now, that we are drawing nearer to free and fair elections of international standard, one that the people's will actually prevails, where are these opposition parties?

It's either they've collected "shutup" money (which will be a shame) or they just don't knw what they are doing (which is an even bigger shame). You just can't expect people to vote you in based on sympathy and the mere fact that you are the opposition alone.

ACN, CPC, ANPP, its time for you to merge into a single party with a national vision or remain regional parties for the next 50 years as the PDP predicted.

it may turn out to be a phyrric victory because the courts including the supreme court will give the governor elect the Amaechi treatment. The seat will go back to Sylvia who was the Pdp candidate at the end of his first tenure.

I expect the Kogi state governor to face the same issues.

With the low turnouts reported, what did anyone expect? A real fight still? Bayelsans got what they wanted . . . .anything goes, so they should buckle up cause it is probably going to be another 4-year bumpy ride for em.
