AWKA – ANOTHER member of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu, elected on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Tuesday defected to All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. Maduagwu, who represents Nnewi South 11 constituency, is the second ACN elected member to dump the party for APGA. An ACN member, Mr. Victor Okoye, representing Anambra West constituency, had on Monday decamped from his party and joined APGA. At a ceremony witnessed by Governor Peter Obi, officials of the party, including some members of the State House of Assembly at the state headquarters of APGA in Awka, the two lawmakers were issued with APGA membership cards by their ward chairmen. Okoye, in his speech, said he was delighted to join APGA because of the way the state government had transformed his area. His words: “Before APGA government came into office, we had no tarred road in the entire Anambra West, but today, we have benefited so much. This government has given us a sense of belonging. I am, therefore, joining APGA to support the governor so that we will get more dividends of democracy from government.” On her part, Maduagwu said her defection was as a result of the good works the present administration was doing in the state. She said that her people decided that she should identify with the party in majority in the House of Assembly, adding that her membership of APGA would benefit her people. In his speech, Governor Obi commended the lawmakers for taking the bold step because the present administration had cared for the people of both Anambra West and Nnewio South. According to the governor, his administration was the first government in the state to start a major project in Anambra West, adding that to date, the state government had committed about N6.9 billion in infrastructural development of the area. The governor also said that he would flag off a major project in Nnewi South next month, promising that no part of the state would be neglected. ^ Trash. Who told you that it was the Yoruba party ACN that won the election for him? FYI: It was the individual personality that won the election because of his popularity, just like Ngige did. Ngige won the election because of his intimidating profile and popularity. Ngige would have won even if he was in ANPP or any of those mushroom and Yoruba tribal party as ACN. |
