ABUJA, - Around 10,000 Nigeriens are reported to have fled Nigeria as a result of the unrest in the Northern part of the country.

A spokesman for the high council of Nigeriens abroad, Boube Yaye told a local radio in Niamey that some 10,000 Nigeriens have crossed of their own accord and that more are still crossing.

He however highlighted that the figure could be low as the figures did not take account of those who entered Niger without registering.

In a bid to fight growing Islamist militancy from sect Boko Haram , Nigeria's Federal Government recently announced that around 11, 000 people have been deported back to neighbouring countries with a large chunk of the deportees from Chad and the Niger Republic.
