Niger State Governor Mu’azu Ba-bangida Aliyu is to quit his position as the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum following the expiration of his tenure, Daily Trust learnt yesterday. He is expected to quit the post at the forum’s meeting on Thursday, in Kaduna.

It is not clear who among his colleagues will succeed him. Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam is the Vice Chairman of the forum.

A statement yesterday by the coordinating secretariat of NGF and signed by the Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Daniel Clifford Shashere, said the forum would discuss the process for the emergence of a new leadership for the forum. But Shashere did not say if Aliyu would vacate the post.

The statement said issues of security, unity and development of the region as well as a review of communiqués issued by Northern Traditional Council and Arewa Consultative Fo-rum (ACF) would top the agenda.

Other issues to be tabled for discussion, according to the statement, would be the consolidation of Sir Ahmadu Bellos’ Memorial Foundation (SABMF), progress on the restructuring of Kaduna Textile Limited (KTL), status of implementation of the National Minimum Wage and polio eradication in the Northern states.

The meeting will also discuss a review report of a 2-day National Capacity-Building Workshop for 19 Northern states and the presentation by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), 2009.

The coordinating chairman revealed that the NGF meeting will be preceded by the meeting of the Forum of Secretaries to the Governments of Northern States today, Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th March, 2012 at General Hassan Us-man Katsina House, Kawo, Kaduna.
