Enugu Govt. Approves N271m For Hospital Renovation by Dainfamous: 3:43pm On Mar 08, 2012
Enugu: The Enugu State Executive Council has approved N271 million for the completion of some critical buildings at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital.

Briefing journalists on the outcome of Wednesday’s council meeting in Enugu, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, said the buildings were the obstetrics and gynaecology block, 36 resident doctors’ flats and the hospital canteen.

Ugwoke said the idea was to provide good infrastructure to enhance quality health care delivery.

Ugwoke said the council also approved the procurement of alum, lime and chlorine worth N38 million for use at the Ajalli water plant.

He explained that the alum, lime and chlorine would be used to treat water at the plant from March to June to ensure good water quality, easy control and treatment at purification plants. (NAN)

There's a difference between renovation and completion. They're using the money to build the obstetrics and gynaecology block, 36 resident doctors’ flats and the hospital canteen.

Exactly, the amount earmarked for the project makes sense, cos I remember the amount that was used in renovating the Senators and House of Rep houses.

The Rivers State Government says the multi-million dollar Karibi Whyte Hospital project will not be abandoned.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Sampson Parker, made this declaration while speaking to newsmen in his office in Port Harcourt.
Dr Parker who was giving situation report on the Karibi-Whyte Specialist Hospital, explained that the construction of the hospital was stalled at the moment due to dispute between the government and the contractor handling the project.
He said the state government had already brought in “arbitrator, a consultant who is taking inventory of the site to confirm whose claims are right, and to ascertain if the mobilisation they were given was actually used”.
He further said, “it’s a big project and so we can’t wait until a huge mistake made before we look into it. At every point in time, we review it and go ahead, that is what is happening”.
He explained that the project is “priority” that must be completed in spite of financial challenges, adding that, “the project should be a flagship of healthcare delivery in Nigeria”.
“We want to see how we can curb the huge traffic for medicare out of Nigeria. That’s the idea behind that project and it’s still very much with us”, he said .

This is an example of a project to be applauded. We are not some refugee camp that we should keep investing into these, what I call thatch hut projects, littering the whole country. From Lagos to Calabar, na so you go seem them. We have been in dire need, and I mean dire need of improvement. Some of these governors have been in office for more than 5 years, we need some real work done.

Until I see the info on the existing blocks and what the addition would mean, I say, we do not need to open another thread for one of these.
