Another round of fuel scarcity looms as the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), on Sunday in Abuja gave the Federal Government a 72-hour deadline to intervene in its dispute with some banks or face a nationwide strike. http://www.channelstv.com/home/2012/03/12/fuel-scarcity-looms-as-petroleum-workers-threaten-strike/ |

I think Nigerians should learn to ignore certain ramblers in the society. Go on strike since that is the trend now. Very soon we on NL will also go on strike for posting threads regarding NUPENG. Shikena! |

That's what you get when you don't properly deregulate. You can't eat your cake and have it. Tanker drivers feel and act like civil servants because government is their paymaster not the public. If they faced proper market forces in competition, faced performance targets, faced proper regulatory tasking, strike will be extinct in their vocabulary. Afterall the group of MTN, GLO, AIR and co. are telecoms monopolies and equally strategic yet you don't have a strike culture. Deregulate and let them work. Power as they have corrupts absolutely. Are they the only ones who take loans. Nigerians must be prepared to pay a fair price for quality goods and services. If not, I repeat our oil industry will go to the dogs. |

NUPENG has outlived her usefulness. The issue she has raised is one of the reasons why we are underdeveloped. You don't force government to give concessions to favoured companies but you invest in a firm to give it comparable advantage. Enough of the strikes. Put your house in order. |
