It is so so dissapointing to read all these comments on NAIRALAND. I would have expected people to raise dust, complain on face book etc against such corrupt practices and here we are justifying it and yet we blame the government for corruption.
Let forward thinking nigerians write on the face book account of the President complaining about this injustice, I will do my part, by the time we have 1 million complaint, I am sure something would be done, write on Ribadu's wall as well. LET US SAVE NIGERIA.

We now see corruption as a norm in this country. It has engrained deeply in our culture. Oh God Almighty save us.

NCS are corrupt just like the police.maybe you should have parted with the money the officer demanded from your agent to avoid all these wahala.Just my opinion.

Did you just suggest the above? Tomorrow you will be in politics section criticizing those in authority when in reality you would do worse if you are appointed an adviser to any government.

Inasmuch as there are two sides to every story; this particular one on the face of it looks authentic, the officer that demanded for bribe should be made to face a disciplinary committee and if found guilty should face the music.

Oga surgeon, you would have paid that small change (28k). May be you would saved many lives and live corruption for our corrupted politicians to deal with. Apparent corruption has entrenched our lives in Nigeria and not even 10 of you can stop that now. better still you could have prescribe a good corruption drug for that custom officer then when he's ok he should clear your medical stuffs for free.

then tell me how that moves nigeria forward. It is so sad that nigeria is a geographical expression where honesty and merit is for pigs and dogs and you are happy about it. Instead of kicking us dust about this issue you are supporting the corrupt custom official.

If he doesn't complain, how will you know and do something about it? Isn't that what the press, social media and other similar organizations or tools are for?

Go and find out the full story before you judge me. There is more to it that Oga Surgeon is not saying. This is no basis of supporting corruption.

The journey of a million miles begins with a step, we should all try to say no to corruption, if you and i refuse to give bribe and stand our ground that is the start of making our country free from corruption. I always refuse to give bribe as a matter of principle. We should not accept it as the norm as this has made Nigeria a laughing stock to the rest of the world. CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME. Lets start from ourselves.

This doctor has the mindset of the kind of people we should be giving national honour, but since we have a Silverback Gorilla as President, it is the corrupt customs cretin the president would chase to give national honour and PDP position.

Shame on all of those advocating and justifying bribe giving. Anyway a friend just sent me the new development on BB, we may not always win when we raise issues like this to public awareness but I am happy the CG OF cUSTOMS was embarassed enough to ACT THIS TIME. A Friend of mine carried this case on her head yesterday she didnt sleep all night trying to get contacts and get this message to the right quarters
UPDATE ON SEIZED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT BY NIGERIAN CUSTOMS

RE: Corruption and the pain of being a Nigerian physician. Written by Ahidjo Abdulkadiri Kawu

To all my colleagues, thanks a million. There is a new twist to this saga.

1. The National Assembly has asked that I should come wit the document related to this case on Monday.

2. The ICPC has contacted me that the case would be solved soon.

3. The office of the Comptroller General Custom(CGC) has called me to say that the goods has been released with immediate effect and the officer has been ordered to report to Abuja and would be punish because they have read the message on the internet and are scared the dimension it has taken.

4. The warehouse said the demurrage is about 3million already

5. When we go to the NA, the Custom would claim that they have released the goods
what do I want?
1. That all doctors who have had similar experiences with the custom officials should come out to report their cases.

2. Letter of Apology from the CGC.

3. The goods should be brought to Abuja and delivered at my office.

4. Letter to the donor company clearing my name that I have not diverted the goods for private use.

5. Public apology to Nigerians for their insensitivity and directly responsible for the death of Nigerians.

I pledge to work for the plights of Nigerian with spine related problems and this I would do with all of my strength. Thanks once again.

Ahidjo Abdulkadiri Kawu

Shame on those advocating that he should have settled. Please those of you who have had similar experinces, go forth to the National assembly hearing on Monday with your papers. Let us start the change small small

So many comments here have shown the utter helplessness of Nigeria.
Re: Lamentations Of A ‘frustrated’ Nigerian Surgeon by deardoc: 11:41pm On Mar 22, 2012
Na wah oh. Sorry Doc, thats the system for you. But are we going to continue accepting that as status quo or are we going to bring about change.

The major challenge we have with majority of Nigerians is a mindset problem. Poverty of the mindset as i call it. Everyone is waiting for his time and opportunity to chop, yet we blame the govt. We cant change the world but we can change ourselves. So let the change begin.

My advise for you Doc is to pray abt it. whatever you try to fight, you bring more about it,its called Law of Attraction. thats why you see corruption blooming despite the shouts n protest. so start visualizing that you are getting the answers you desire, that God is turning things around in your favour, that protocols are broken for your sake. that people that would favour you concerning this issue would come your way.

All these would make your wish come to pass faster. All the best

shoboy9: Hmmm, has God abandoned Nigeria? Some posts here are rather baffling.

which god? mohammed? abeg dont make me laugh.
@ poster,

pls when next you chose to write something like this; you must write the name and unit of the corrupt customs guy, that way, his superiors can start something internally, protecting his identity is not in your interest.

how did you think the killer cop was caught if The victim was writting "one officer, one officer" you never can tell if an Abubakar in customs is listening.

for those of you who think Nigeria is over, i seriously doubt it,

during the WAI era, a traditional ruller was flogged publicly for blocking a major road while celebrating his ofala festival, one may argue that it is the military era,

do you know how bad the Npf degenerated? collecting road tolls from private escort was the height of it,

the IG says no and it has stopped, the problem i see is lack of sincerity of purpose on the part of leadership.

how can a tiny customs bràt hold a whole nation to ransome that is insane.

The country does not stink but some her people stink.

SHAME on our leaders, shame on our president who cannot use his constitutional powers to make things work for the good of all.

A day of reckoning will soon come.
