The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board has released the results of the 2012 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, and only THREE candidates scored above 300. This was revealed by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, at a news conference in Abuja today. He also said the results of 27, 266 candidates across eight states were withheld for various reasons. A total of 1,503,931 candidates sat for the 2012 UTME, which held across the country on March 24, with Imo state having the highest number of applicants with 123,865 candidates; Delta came second with 88,876 candidates while Anambra placed third with 84,204 candidates. Abuja recorded the lowest number with 3,380 candidates, Sokoto placed next with 5, 664 candidates while 5,713 candidates sat from Zamfara |

Who are those three? And what's the passing rate by state? I see a lot of 150s and 190s results. |

Whoa!!! Over 123,000 from Imo alone! If for one thing, it signifies an extremely high demand for tertiary education and formal accomplishment in Imo. And for a tribally monolithic state of its nature (ie 100 percent Igbo), I find this even more interesting. I think more universities, polytechnics, colleges of education and artisan academies should be situated in these three states. What's also surprising is the fact that Nigeria's most populous states, Lagos and Kano, are nowhere to be found in the top three. And that Imo leads not just in percentage but numbers, is also amazing considering the fact that, when listing Nigeria's top 10 most populous states, Imo is nowhere to be found! Cooool. |

I am really shocked that Imo could beat Delta! More Delta peeps need to go to school; serious levels of awareness needs to be created. The post is not full. Well congrats to UNIZIK (2nd most preferred university) and the eastern states in general. As for the north, their movement to abolish western education is really yielding results. |

jedisco: The post is not full. It might be even worse next year. Something drastic needs to be done about the core-North and education. Abuja recorded the lowest number with 3,380 candidates, Sokoto placed next with 5, 664 candidates while 5,713 candidates sat from Zamfara Can you imagine this? |
Re: JAMB Releases 2012 UTME Results; Only 3 Candidates Scored Above 300 by Ejine(m): 7:49pm On Mar 30, 2012 |
Beaf: That's a path they chose for themselves. Abegiii. Na we born dem? We go force-feed dem book? Na dem open mouth tok say dem no want again. So make we leave dem to their fate. Have you seen that infamous satellite shot of Korea? The one that showed South Korea glowing with lights and neon effects, while North Korea was in pitch darkness? That's what Nigeria will end up looking like in the days to come. And I'm sure you already know who our North Koreans are gonna be in this case. Xenophobia comes with its cross, so they're just gonna have to carry it. They made that decision, afterall. |

Beaf: The one that really shocked me was Sokoto State. Why should such a state even have a federal university. Left to me, either the issue of one federal university per state should be jettisoned or the catchment area stuff should be thrown away. Seriously, states that want to go to school should have more federal universities. |
Re: JAMB Releases 2012 UTME Results; Only 3 Candidates Scored Above 300 by Abagworo(m): 7:54pm On Mar 30, 2012 |
bashr8: JAMB is done by State of origin and not State of residence. Many of the Imo citizens could be based in Lagos. This is a micro indicator of ethnic population irrespective of residence. I have a firm belief that Anambra is the most populous State in Nigeria closely followed by Imo. If you look at these States from google, the lower half of Anambra and the upper half of Imo is the most densely populated part of Nigeria. Imo has been leading in University enrollment and graduation in Nigeria for more than 30 years now. I wonder why anyone would argue about the most educated State in Nigeria. 1 Like |
Re: JAMB Releases 2012 UTME Results; Only 3 Candidates Scored Above 300 by nanos: 8:02pm On Mar 30, 2012 |
Beaf: Imo has been consistent as the most in JAMB application and examination in Nigeria since the late 80s, followed distantly by Delta and Anambra or Anambra and Delta, depending on the year in question. Abagworo: you are right, JAMB is based on state of origin and not on state of residence. How many true Lagosians are there? May be 1 million only. |
Re: JAMB Releases 2012 UTME Results; Only 3 Candidates Scored Above 300 by nanos: 8:03pm On Mar 30, 2012 |
Abagworo: Anambra can't be more populated than Lagos, Kano and Oyo. It may be the next in rank (4th) if no rigging is done. Density correlates well with land mass and both Anambra and Imo are small in land mass. |

Re: JAMB Releases 2012 UTME Results; Only 3 Candidates Scored Above 300 by Abagworo(m): 8:20pm On Mar 30, 2012 |
nanos: I don't mean by residence. I mean if all Anambrians are counted as Anambrians irrespective of their place of residence, they should exceed 10 million while Imo should be around 8 million. Lagos will come out smallest if census is done that way. |
Re: JAMB Releases 2012 UTME Results; Only 3 Candidates Scored Above 300 by nanos: 8:23pm On Mar 30, 2012 |
Abagworo: But you can't do census based on state of origin at the expense of state of residence. Residence is the major yardstick, and then of course ethnicity or tribe must be accounted for in the census questions. |

Read between lines . . .was I doubting the figures or the OP? The OP is fraud and thats it. Is it not natural to see those that have been selling spare parts are now trying to go to school and hence rushing up to apply for jamb? Fool Ejiné: |

Capt.Barbosa: Even if it was edited out, it still doesn't help your empty case. He clearly noted UniZik had the second highest figure, which isn't a lie. You need to fetch yourself a job so you don't spend all day clutching at straws like the idle soul you are. |
