The Federal Government has awarded a N5 billion contract for the construction of Almajiri schools, under the second phase of the Almajiri education programme.

The Vice President, Namadi Sambo, disclosed this during the closing ceremony of the 26th National Quranic Recitation Competition held on Saturday in Katsina State.

According to Sambo, the first phase of the programme had been completed and would be commissioned by President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday in Sokoto.

He said the Federal Government and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) had signed a $98 million loan agreement to promote the education of almajiris and the girl-child in Nigeria.

Good move jona. thatz if it actually gets the work done and not ending up in some politicians pockets. Education is key.
