OWERRI - Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has sacked the Transition Committee Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema local council area, Mr. Greg Anyanwu, for alleged gross incompetence.

Anyanwu’s sack was effected by Okorocha during a meeting he held to take stock of road projects completed in the 27 local government areas, with a view to making payment to benefitting contracting firms.

Trouble started when the member representing Ohaji/Egbema state constituency in the House of Assembly, Chief Luke Chukwu, gave a contrary report from that of Anyanwu.

Irked by the reports he received on the spot from some of his appointees about the local council boss, Governor Okorocha announced his immediate sack.

Meanwhile, serious lobbying had since commenced for the replacement of the sacked transition committee chairman but as at the time of going to press, the council chairman’s seat remained vacant.

Governor, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has disclosed that the sum of N10 billion has been paid to the contractors handling 500 kilometers on-going rural road projects towards ensuring their completion before the rainy season.

Okorocha disclosed this during a meeting he held with commissioners, House of Assembly members, permanent secretaries, directors and other top government functionaries at Sam Mbakwe Hall, Concorde Hotel, Owerri.
He stated that his administration plan to complete all road projects it started in order to reduce the sufferings, the people are passing through in various areas of the state and enjoined the contractors to reciprocate the gesture by adhering to the terms of agreement.

He said the government would ensure a maintenance culture on all the on-going road projects, adding that transition committee chairmen of local government areas would be held responsible for roads not well executed in their areas.

The governor who noted that the state since its inception has spent the sum of N45 billion on roads promised to pay completely for any road project completed, adding that, the state government had spent about N500 billion on road projects since creation.
He stressed that the secret of his success, especially in executing projects was sacrifice and prudence in handling public funds and expressed gratitude to the elected and appointed government functionaries and the people for their sacrifice and understanding towards moving the state forward

Rochas is a no nonsense governor. Nice one Rochas. Incompetence and corruption will not be condoned in Imo state.

when you say someone in imcompetent, is means he could not perform a task well, i really would wish to know the young mans offense.

i dont see fairness at play at all,no querry, no memo or even fair hearing, how do know when personal issues are transfered to official ones

Set aside sentiment , does he have the right to do this, without it proceeding from the Legislature.

I understand what you're saying. But in country where even its constitution is so self contradictry it makes nonsense of due process, idealism is hardly an option.

If you cant do something as simple as harmonising a report that would be presented, chances of you being able to do anything well is pretty slim imo

Can a governor sack a democratically elected LG boss?? Not as far as the constitution goes.
It's like suggesting that the president can summarily sack a governor or senator!!

he did not sack the LG boss but the Transition Committee Chairman that he appointed.

this GUY already answered your question. As far as IMO state is concerned, for now, there is no such thing as Local government chairman, what we have now are handpicked transition committee chairman, they were not democratically elected by the people of Imo state. They were hand picked by Rochas Okorocha, therefore they can be sacked at his whim and caprices without any recourse to the state legislature.
