Nigeria: Orphans Converge On Port Harcourt for Reality Show

Port Harcourt — Orphans with various talents from different orphanages across Nigeria converged on Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, at the weekend for the first ever reality TV show for orphans under the umbrella of Melody Shelters.

The TV show, which started with 40 orphanages now has eight finalists currently camped in Port Harcourt for the grand finale coming up in a few weeks. The programme is being sponsored by a philanthropist and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Prince Tonye Princewill in collaboration with Adonis Production. Princewill, while donating N120 million for the programme, said the gesture is aimed at appreciating the less privileged and the down trodden across the country.

"Orphans did not ask to be born and can only believe that God has a purpose for their lives. Many of us have been fortunate enough to know the feeling of being loved and cared for by parents. That in itself is a blessing. If we can give back something and touch someone, God will never forget it, even if the orphans do. But if you ask me I will tell you that orphans do not underestimate the power of human kindness. Help them and you will never regret it," he said.

The orphanages include Gidan Bege Orphanage (Benue State), Godswill Orphanage (Kogi State) Adonai Orphanage (Kaduna State), Rachael Homes (Abuja), Susanna homes (Abia State), Lifetime Caring Orphanage (Rivers State), Edo Orphanage (Edo State), Compassion Orphanage (Edo State).
