Doctors are not important than the police, soldiers and every others Nigerians that do hazardous jobs to keep Nigerians safe ! If farmers were government workers,i'm sure all of us would be dead by now !

Please read this to yourself for a minute. If after that you still think what you wrote is logical...well what can i say.

The LASG should b held responsible for d ongoing crisis. D strike would have been avoided had it been d LASG implemented d agreement they reached with d doctors abt 2 years ago. It goes to show that d govt does not care for d masses.

Doctors hav a right to have their demands considered and if possible met by the govt.
Bt the way they r going abt it, isnt too cool.

They forget the govt doesnt get to suffer, its us, the poor nigerians thatcant get flown abroad for treatment.

And who doesnt kno how expensive these private hospitals can be.

God help us. A lot of people have died already just these past days cos of ths strike. sad

wirewire: some of you dont know there is power in any organised union. so the fed have the right to go on a solidaritry strike.

Na wao. . .You actually think government gives a fu-ck about poor man killing another poor man.My take is that if there is no compromise between government and the doctors, innocent lagosians should not be allowed to die for a matter that doesnt concern them. The fact that all the doctors withdrew their services mean they dont have regards for the poor people around them. angry

LeoMax: Horticulture (flowering) is a budgeted expense ! There was no provision for their sudden desire on the budget. Why cant they simply treat patients and go on hunger strike, thats an option!

You budget money for flowers but not for an agreement you voluntarily signed about 2ys earlier right?

And pls dont ever pray to be attended to by a hungry doctor because 'dead body must get accident' o. If no be the doctor then na the patient

i see this situation differently, doctors (and as a matter of factor, any employee (union or otherwise) ) should be free to go on strike, however, no worker must be paid for the period for which they are on strike. i think if we have a "no work, no pay " policy, employees will think critically about the gains and losses of a strike before before going on some kind of stupid strike e.g. solidarity strike. can u imagine workers of PZ going on strike in solidarity with sacked staffs of unilever

When people who are supposed to be saving lives can up and go on strike without sympathy for the people that would die in their absence.. Thats how you know you are in Nigeria!!

Do what right thing ? Like pay the most senior doctors #2 000 000 as against the #900 000 they currently get beside other allowances ? How much is fashola's statutory salary beside allowance ?

Gaybriel: I thought doctors are people who value human lives above money and other material things. Oh, how wrong i was! I thought the first principle in medicine is to value human lives FIRST.... I'm beginning to dislike the doctors in Nigeria... The doctors working for the FG are the most foolish for their solidarity strike...

Doctors do value human lives and of course the rule in medicine is to FIRST DO NO HARM.

You can come over to the US for your traetment since you dislike the doctors in Nigeria as long as you can pay for it. Afterall fashola has flown his father abroad for treatment. I am not just sure all the 15million inhabitants of lagos are as rich as you and the governor.

Which other allowance. They pay for the house allocated to them by LASG and you are talking of allowance.
LASG imposed multiple taxation on their salary.

Lets be realistic, Fashola reached an agreement with them for over 3 yrs now and refuse to honor it
and still have the got to sack them. Habba, that is gross injustice.

All the doctors' haters go and write JAMB it is never too later. In fact, it is better late than never.

We all know how the game always start right from secondary school. The best brains are admitted to med sch while the rest are pushed aside to manage with the available.

To the genuine commenters, you just have to remove the garb of being parochial and see Fash as a man dealing with other men. Not as ACN gov. In power. 100% performance in governance is impossible. This imbroglio has shown us nobody is above mistakes. Fash has taken a wrong step and I think the quicker he realises this the better. He needs to ask Adebisi Akande what happened when he was the gov of Osun state. Akala too was also dealt with. You don't use the machinery of state to fight your workers. You may not go free without some bruises.

I repeat if you are a physician reading this and you live and work in Nigeria, get the hell out of that country as fast as you can. Opportunities abound outside the shores of Nigeria....the mass exodus of doctors is about to begin again.

And for everybody else, well the native doctors have been around for a long time and quite frankly they can make do with more clients grin

only the sick need the doctors so i'm not a candidate of your prescription. By the grace of God, i'm hale and hearty. Jesus is my doctor. He never goes on strike. Even if i default in my agreement, he still forgives me and heal me. What a great healer is my God.

maybe we should consider sacking those on solidarity strike as well?? this is already heading to a very messy end as i see the other health workers starting theirs as well if the doctors get their conmess.then we will have real trouble on our hands. somebody made a comment about recruiting doctors from india and etc, that will not work cos i know india has a far better and advanced health care system than we have here and the doctors there are well off. i hope this ends soon o.

you study medicine and i study food science and technology. Which is more useful to man. Can you treat your patients without food but you know that no one can live a healthy life without food. So medicine my foot! Let us not start another debate here.

Well oga since jesus is your doctor i guess he is also my daily bread (pun intended)grin

I mean no disrespect to your profession sir but please don't even try to compare the job-stress, expectations and responsibilities of a food scientist with that of a physician

Re: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by Nobody: 12:29pm On May 18, 2012
All that's required is for Fasola to employ more doctors for Lagos state hospitals.

Let the federal doctors go on strike forever, LASG is not their employer and as such cannot dictate their actions.

There will only be problem if they attempt to disrupt their working colleagues. In that case, some of them can be arrested and charged to court for constituting public nuisance.
Re: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by blackpanda: 12:31pm On May 18, 2012
This is wot happens wen govt wilfully refuses to honour its commitments. For heavensake, why shld fashola throw into the bush an agreement which was entered into by him and his cohorts. Were they blind wen they were signing it. It serves lasg ryt, and I fully support the solidarity strike. Will be solidarity protests against the lasg by all lagosians and pressure groups.

I hope fashola is wise enough to see that heads or tail, he losses. The solution is simple, go back to the negotiation table. Nobody shld be a bully and no person deserves to be bullied in any functioning democracy. Govt does not hold the monopoly of power. The little ones still have a voice!
Re: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by Biggyd2: 12:32pm On May 18, 2012
ekt_bear: Fashola should stand firm, and refuse to back down. The doctors must learn who is the employer, and who is the employee.

This type of reasoning is the same reason why we are under the shackles of autocratic governments. Today it is the doctors, tomorrow who knows. Lekki second toll gate is coming soon and God knows which other one. As usual, when people go out to protest, he will use area boys and the police to attack people. And many will hail him as the best governor. And this is the same man who during the occupy nigeria came out to make a public announcement, when his oga in Aso rock deployed soldiers to Lagos roads, that people have the right to protest if the ruled have grievances against their governments. I really dont know who is fooling who here.

GboyegaD: There are better ways of showing solidarity than going on strike. Their profession has to do with lives as such, there is a need to weigh the pros and cons of their decisions. Fashola and his cohorts doesn't visit the government hospitals therefore, their decisions wouldn't hurt him. NMA should interfere and get Fashola reverse his silly decision through some form of negotiations. The guy has messed up big time and I hope he would be reasonable enough to correct his mistake.

U are not a doctor, so u can say anything u want 2 angry angry angry but still will not understand the bullshit that is going on in these silly government institutions. I find it soooo annoying angry angry angry . The silly state government sacks working doctors angry angry and then employs new ones immediately in the hope to, what was the word they used "curb a stubborn child" . Ofcourse what do u expect will happen. All colleague will come 2getther 2 declare support, its part of oat that is taken. If they don´t work, then we don´t work period.

If Fashola agrees to this, then other health workers (pharmacists, etc) will go on strike. Once he increases the salaries of other health workers, the doctors will then go on strike. It's time to take a stand.
