Transparency International Debunks News Of Open Letter To Nigeria by Nobody: 2:54pm On May 18, 2012 |
Source http://wikicolumn.com/news/transparency-international-debunks-reports-of-open-letter-sent-to-nigeria-32 As Nigerian workers celebrated Workers’ Day in the beginning of May, the local media was saturated with news of an Open Letter sent to the Nigerian President by Transparency International. Wikicolumn learned this week that the news is false. In an email correspondence with Transparency International Communications Officer, Sophie Brown, we learned that no Open Letter was sent to the Nigerian President ”Nor are we represented by a law firm by the name Fitch, Fitch, Fitch & Associates”, Brown added. Here’s a snapshot of the email reply from Sophie Brown after we contacted Transparency International’s head office in Berlin. http://wikicolumn.com/databox/uploads/46.jpg While there was no original publication of the said "Open Letter" on the official website of Transparency International, excerpts from the letter were published by a number of local dailies. Here are some links of the news as reported by some Nigerian dailies in May. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/40157-transparency-international-writes-jonathan-on-corruption-rate-as-soyinka-bakare-give-fg-2-week-ultimatum-to-prosecute-culprits http://saharareporters.com/news-page/transparency-international-letter-president-goodluck-jonathan-threatening-lawsuit-its-glob WikiColumn has notified The Tribune, SaharaReporters, and other local dailies that published the report in early May of this development.
