Nigeria Under GEJ: Gains Or Pains? by brabus(m): 11:44am On May 27, 2012 |
Each year, we celebrate Democracy day. This is the time we take a comprehensive look at the gains and losses of democracy over the previous year. Democracy is much more than just holding free and fair elections. It has to be underpinned by a civil society governed by the rule of law and supported by a politically neutral civil justice system free of corruption. Also required are a free press; respect for minorities; public accountability; business transparency; and the presence of educational, cultural, scientific and religious institutions and NGOs. Are we likely to see any gains cited as achievements in the democractic scorecard of President Goodluck Jonathan in the next few years? ________ For me, it is an unending pain for the poor. How do poor families spend so much more money than they earn? Let's discuss. |

4 me, its pain althrough. The rate at which innocent lives have been lost daily due to the activities of bh and armedrobery is alarming. Check out the rate of poverty and unemployment withing the citizen. This government had made so much money from oil revenue more than the previous governments, this is due to the amnesty programme offered to the millitant of niger delta by the previous government which as a result, makes the export of crude oil in the country to massively increase to over 2m barrels/ day. This government no try at all. |

GEJ’s stance to root out corruption has inadvertently turned into a sing-along tune which is reminiscent of a toothless bulldog – all roar but no bite. While the antigraft body preyed on small time thieves who pocketed petty cash, the big fishes that have been fingered in multimillion naira frauds – or at times even billions of naira – were left to swim free. Poor governance remains the most potent threat to the quality of democracy in Nigeria. And it is a great pain to the citizenry. |

brabus: Each year, we celebrate Democracy day. This is the time we take a comprehensive look at the gains and losses of democracy over Nigerian under GEJ = Pain and anguish, untold suffering and continous corruption. But then again, GEJ's government is not the only corrupt government we have had. All the other governments before him were corrupt too. Nigeria just seems to be an all round corrupt nation and it is affecting us all. |

egift: We Nigerians are also traumatized by Jonathan and his political gang. We can see what inexperience could wrath on a nation in transition. So far, with the signals reaching us , Mr. GEJ lacks capacity and experience to rule a community of 150,000 people talkless of a state like Lagos. |
