What would now happen to the newly employed doctors. This does not make sense. Would they now sack them ?, cos on the long run, the state government would still have to spend more in paying these new doctors, which is almost the same thing ( if not less) as the increment the doctors were fighting for in the first place. |

Eko Ile: 34 doctors don answer query and recognized the authority of their employer. The rest go soon smell coffee abd begin beg. Learnt the doctors din't beg, it's the ones on leave who were being called back...it's all propanganda, fashola would slowly realise what he has done and try to win the public back gradually by reversing it |

I think Fashola is just trying to use "scare tactics" coupled with "Divide and Rule" tactics! Since the logjam is getting bigger and bigger...and Fashola is not a Doctor and neither can he import Doctors (and pay them as they would want), Fashola is aware that he is running out of tricks! Just see how he left the "back door open" for himself in-case he needs to maneuver (quote: since they can still be recalled...bla-bla-bla) I foresee a face-saving style by Gov. Fash. He will act like he is "in control" and the Doctors are "begging" to have their job back but in actuality, he is the one begging them to come back! Only a foolish man will pour ants on his own bed at 9pm! Lastpage! BTW: i dont support all these incessant strikes that lead to death of innocent people (and hope there are better ways of achieving same result) but we have an uncaring and unreasonable Govt which does not understand any "civil language" except the use of threats and force. Such is the caliber of "unthinking rulers" Nigeria is saddled with. 2 Likes |

leo083: Guys pls pls n pls, enough of these lies in the media, the 34 drs that were claimed to be reinstated were never fired in the first place cos they were on leave when they sacked the 788 drs, fashola n the media are deceiving people, Only God will judge The Lagos State government had an agreement (about 3 years ago) with the doctors to follow the unified salary structure for doctors in the Country. The Lagos State government has simply failed to fulfill their part of the agreement for 3 years and running. And it baffles me that some people on this forum have decided to support this show of irresponsibility by this state government. As far as I'm concerned, this just goes to show the level of commitment of the govt. in developing their state (at least most other States do not take healthcare for granted). No wonder our roads, power supply, etc are a joke. They'll make agreements with contractors, once the job begins, the govt. will renege on the agreement leaving the project to an indefinite halt. Besides, virtually ALL other States in the Country pay the CONMESS to doctors working for the States. Even got to learn that in Borno State, the salary is an even "improved" CONMESS, and so it is in many other States. So why all these breaking of agreements and lies by the Lagos state government? The most ridiculous of all is the claim that some of the doctors are reapplying for work with the state; when in REALITY there is a NATIONWIDE Strike by doctors (for 3 days, with a 2-week ultimatum to follow) for the Lagos state govt. to withdraw the sack issuance and implement the CONMESS). The govt. should just do the right thing and stop spreading lies in the media. 2 Likes |

When you sort out the obvious Fashola propaganda, the clear message to be gleaned from this is that from Fashola's continous reference to a possibility of recall of the doctors, the man has left himself a face-saving back door to return to status quo. Meh. When you drill down to it, these leaders are almost all the same. Corrupt, power drunk demagogues. |

niyitogun: Fashola has the public's support on this...if you doubt it, setup a poll on nairaland and see for yourself. Fashola may have been a bit high handed in his handling of this issue. But the truth is that no government nay employer, will stand by and condone the recklessness displayed by the doctors to work. Even the doctors themselves would not smile at their own employees in their private practices. All they have to do is toe the line of reconciliation rather than adopt this militant posture and expect the government to dance to their tune. The government has told them exactly what to do in order to be recalled...the question is are they ready to go back to work? |

Na-Me: How many of the so-called States paying CONMESS have up to half of the numbers of doctors practising in Lagos? How many of those states have up to a quarter of the number of the Lagos State civil service? How many of those States are contending with the challenges that Lagos State faces with regard to dearth and decay of public infrastructure and an over bloated population? I have spent time in Borno and I know that as at the time I was there, 2009 to be precise, Borno State had less than 100 doctors spread across 33 primary healthcare institutions. It got so bad at a time that the government had to resort to employing Egyptian consultants to complement its local medical workforce. Is that the State you would want to compare with Lagos State with its over 1000 doctors? Let us be objective in our comments please!!! 2 Likes |

snowdrops: But you forgot to add that this is the first time that doctors are going on strike in the UK since 1975...and that there have been numerous labor disputes since then but the doctors exercise restraints because they recognize that they hold sensitive positions. You also forgot to add that the strike in June is for one day and the BMA made it expressly clear that doctors would be on hand to attend to emergency cases throughout the duration of the "one-day walkout" on June 21st. 2 Likes |

Re: Fashola Reverses Firing Of 34 Doctors (Out Of 788) by Tokotaya: 8:08am On May 31, 2012 |
In labour-employer situation, one party would be unreasonable to expect to achieve all its demands at one fell swoop. You win some and lose some; concede some and achieve some. That's the way it should be. If it is true the state govt has conceded some grounds, the doctors too should concede some and live to fight another day. Going on strike ever so often fritters away the lives of the poor defenceless masses. The govt officials know how to take care of themselves. Many of them wouldnt even stay on the shores of Nigeria if they have malarial fever. They will go abroad. So, who are the doctors punishing? The masses. |

Reptyle:the reason they have not gone on strike for 35yrs in the uk,meanwhile doctors here go on strike almost every year is the same reason why they have regular power supply and we don't....please think!!! the truth is the nigerian healthcare system is comatose and is life support machine is the doctors.pure and simple! |

most people have made a lot of comments here about doctors being out of line with this strike... can anyone please suggest how they should have made their grievances known?the truth is that its only strike action that govt understands, though i would have suggested that the docs worked till 4 pm every day and stopped attending to calls afterwards till govt meets their demands running for 3 years. Why sign an agreement when you know you can't honour it? Among the sacked doctors are consultants of over 25 years experience, how can you replace such a person with a rookie?God help you if you have a relation with chronic kidney disease and needs dialysis every week, now that the kidney specialists have been sacked who replaces them? Most people look at the medical practice from the angle of malaria and typhoid and forget that there are many complex cases which require specialist care.i only hope this end soon and on a good note as the resident doctors have started their solidarity strike today. 1 Like |

the LASG is wicked to say the least.you sign an agreement with doctors 3 yrs ago.On numerous occassions these same doctors had dialogued with you in an effort to press home their demands and you kept on shifting the goal post. They go on strike on multiple occassions to reinforce their demands but being who they are they call of each strike PREMATURELY BECAUSE OF THEIR PATIENTS. The govt now realises these doctors are weak at heart and being politicians they are, capitalise on it and keep shifting the goal post. The doctors realise they are being played and decide to harden their hearts in other to get that ONE thing. The govt realises the doctors mean business this time and go town with the propaganda they are well known for. THEY TELL LAGOSIANS THAT AT EACH TIME THE DOCTORS CALLED OF PAST STRIKES,IT WAS BECAUSE THERE WAS A SALARY INCREMENT!AND LAGOSIANS SWALLOWED IT HOOK,LINE AND SINKER!NOT KNOWING THAT DOCTORS HAVE BEEN STRIKING AND CALLING OF(because of their patients) OVER ONE 3 YEAR OLD AGGREEMENT.KAI! UNFORTUNATELY THE DOCTORS HAVE LOST THE PR WAR(you cant beat a politician at his own game) AND I BLAME THEM FOR SITTING BACK IN THEIR CLINICS AND WARDS WHILE THE GOVT F***KS EM UP(pardon my language but in this case i think its apt) MY BROTHERS LOOK AT WHAT BAD GOVERNANCE HAS DONE TO THE POLICE.ARE WE REALLY PREPARED TO SEE WHAT THESE THIEVES WILL TURN DOCTORS INTO?? 2 Likes |

I ve always hated this pretence from ACN & some yoruba elites, the 'see no evil hear no evil attitude' whenever it comes to ACN and its elected officers!if GEJ happens to sack striking workers or doctors for that matter, all the media houses,SNG,civil liberty organizatns, afenefere,OPC and other yoruba clandestine groups wld ve been spitting fire from their mouth by now!Fashola for all i care,is living a lie and will end up running down the very poor he pretends to be working for!Sharing their loots with Tinubu in the most crude manner ever, though i learnt that 82% of the doctors involved are yorubas and who cares!lol |

crusufixo: You still don't get the govt stance. Its not about the money, the highest ranked consultant will only get about 90k more if its implemented. Its about the selfishness of the leaders of the doctors union, most of the snr consultants do not support the strike and actually find it embarrassing, rather than fighting for improved medical facilities they're holding us hostage for their own personal gains. 1 Like |

What I still don't understand is if BRF is lying or he's been mis-informed. The "recalled" he was making reference those were those on leave. So coming out to tell Nigerians that some have been recalled marked hypocrisy on the part of the government hence fuelling the ego trip on the part of the government. Lagosians are dying! |
