Osun State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has congratulated Governor Rauf Aregbesola for the international and regional award of excellence he got last Thursday in recognition of his outstanding performance in environmental management and youth empowerment.

The investiture was done in Osogbo to mark the 2012 World Environmental Day celebration by the African Round Table of Sustainable Consumption and Production, under the auspices of the United Nations.

The international body said it took the decision for the award on the governor, in recognition of the fact that he was the first to declare emergency on environment in the country, and initiate mass employment of youths in the country with O’YES project.

According to the ACN, in a statement issued and signed by its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr Kunle Oyatomi, in spite of the attempts by political opponents of the governor to denigrate his achievements since he reclaimed his mandate, it is heartening that the world continues to appreciate Aregbesola’s work.
Oyatomi said it is a welcome development and encouraging that the world has continued to honour the governor for his efforts in changing the face of the state of Osun by cleaning up its environment and taking thousands of youths off the unemployment market.

The party, therefore, urged the governor to continue in his strategic approach to governance, which is producing results beyond the mental capacity of his political opponents to understand or appreciate.

“The people of the State of Osun not only love what is going on, they feel grateful that the governor has not allowed negative criticisms to dampen his enthusiasm for service to our people”, the party spokesman said.

Also, the party congratulated the governor’s wife, Alhaja Sherifat Aregbesola, who was made an Ambassador of Community-led Total Sanitation (CLTS) by the Federal Government.

“By this award, the governor’s wife has set a precedent of total commitment to the programmes being pursued by her husband to keep Osun clean and green. It is a refreshing departure from the ordinary that has become common with some first ladies.

“This kind of support from the home front will contribute greatly to assisting the governor to perform even more excellently to the joy and progress of the state”, the ACN noted.
