Have any one of you people thought about why we are facing this problems in nigeria today. Have you cared to know the anticidents of the man named 'M.K.O ABIOLA'? If you realy have ansers to this questions, then ask your self is what happened on june 12 a blessing or a curse to nigerians?
Lets be truthful to ourself, when a lion comes out in sheep clothing into a gathering of people. And a mad man in the gathering picks up a gun and kill the lion, what would you expect the people to say/do?

niddamugu: GEJ missed the opportunity of getting an A . If he had declared June 12 a national holiday in commemoration of annulled 1993 elections, rather than coining MAULAG (probably advised by a MALU), he would have won the hearts of many Nigerians.

WHO TOLD U NIGERIANS WOULD BE HAPPY IF GEJ HAD DECLARED JUNE 12 A SIT AT HOME DAY! ABIOLA WITH HIS MOGUL MONEY HELPED IBB TO REGISTER NIGERIANS WITH ORGANISATION OF ISLAMIC STATE, WHAT THIS MEANT IS THAT MKO DID NOT CARE ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE ME(CHRISTIANS).

INFACT SUBTRACT NIDDA FROM UR NAIRALAND NAME, AND U WILL GET UR REAL NAME. NIDDAMUGU - NIDDA = ?

you are making sense but have you bothered asking yourself, if Abiola had been president would we move forward as country or move backwards?

Too many sycophants and political opportunists have been using the June 12 case for their selfish ambitions. Nevertheless, June 12 should be declared the MKO Abiola Day by the government.

@OP,
Even if he had a dirty past, Nigerians voted for him massively, he was denied his mandate and he refused to give up. He would have become president after abacha died but he was killed for the same reason the election was annuled, which we still don't really know.

Renaming unilag will always be one of the dumbest and malicious decisions taken by this administration because

1. A name is changed when something is not making progress or has not been popular to become a strong brand. Unilag is a strong brand built over the years.

2. There is a pending resolution to rename the national stadium in abuja after him since he was the pillar of sports in Nigeria and the whole nation voted for him, not just lagosians or yorubas.

3. Renaming unilag was the wrong thing to do, the president knows this but wants to disunite the yorubas as his government has disunited us on ethnic grounds.

Abiola was a good man, at least to the majority who came across him but the fact remains nobody is a saint and we are human, nobody is perfect.

Who is MKO Abiola again? Is he the bad man that was betrayed by his kinsmen? Oh the ITT culprit? The horn.y devil that was sleeping with peoples' wives? Abiola is one of the worst things that happened to Nigeria. The only good thing Abacha did was incacerating him, and was later eliminated thou with the help of his kinsmen.

Profesor Wole Soyinka and late Fela Kuti should be honored for their selfless services to people of nigeria irespective of ethnicity. One wonders if these duo are really full blooded southwesterners?

@doublej1 d answer to ur question is forward.Gani, beko, falana, soyinka and others didnt support abiola cuz dey want 2 make money from him dey supported abiola cuz he revealed to dem his blue print for nigeria. i rememba dat in 1993 in one of d publications of d den concord news papers even d late Fela was in support of abiola's mandate, you cant av d support of dis great ppl and not move forward in ur life or career or wat eva u want to do in life... ibb and d west were afraid of change dey knew abiola being d president of nigeria will be emancipation 4 d entire black race cuz nigeria would be envy of all... @doublej1 did u watch d presidential debate between abiola and tofa? abiola highlighted n explained how he was going to tackle poverty, unemployement, education, housing etc he explained everytin in detail if u did den u would know....

Ijogz K: Who's Abiola undecided

Yoruba adage says: ti omode o ba ba itan, o ni lati ba aroba, Aroba, baba itan

Chief Moshood Kasimawo Olawale Abiola, deserves all the accolades and honour we can bestow upon him because of his unparalleled role in the birth of our democracy. till date MKO remain relevant in our politics 19 years after his death, his bequest still fears his enemies, failing politicians still use his name to disguise for their failure, his name sounds of that of a wise warrior who laid his life for his people, to fight another war. June 12 1993 is that day every Nigerian even the unborn will live to celebrate, the day Nigerians woke up early to conduct themselves in the most orderly manner for an election.

Today June 12th, 2012 marks the 19th anniversary of the annulment of June 12, 1993 Presidential Election reportedly being won by Chief M.K.O. Abiola. June 12 is a giant landmark in the Nigerian history, because without it and the struggle for its revalidation, we will not have been enjoying the democracy that we now have. Abiola was arrested and put in jail. He died on Tuesday, July 7, 1998 just hours before he was due to be released from prison.. Chief Mko Abiola paid for Nigerian democracy with his life. May his loving, compassion, caring soul Continue to rest in peace in heaven.

Imagine comparing this criminal to Martin Luther King and Kwame Nkrumah - why dont you try and find out what this international thief did with funds meant for nigeria's telecommunication system? a theif who met his waterloo at the hands of bigger theifs - the theif got what he deserved and should never ever be referred to as a freedom fighter.
Re: M.K.O Abiola And June 12 by cap28: 8:17pm On Jun 12, 2012
Susan Rice gave Abiola his last cup of tea laced with poison - america wanted him dead at all costs. Ms Rice has never looked back since and is now a very successful ambassador to the UN - you are rewarded handsomely when you follow orders:

anyway - good riddance to bad rubbish - MKO abiola was nothing but a big pile of shi.t with nothing worthwhile to offer nigeria.

Your ignorance is frightening to behold.

you need to research your messiah's background and you will be disappointed to find out that he was a CIA asset and thief who was only interested in lining his own pockets, an immoral piece of shi.t who sl.ept with his friends wives and had lost count of how many children he had!

by the way which democracy are you enjoying today if i may ask? the foisting of another useless CIA asset by the name of Goodluck Jonathan on you ? the lowering of your standard of living on a daily basis? is that your own idea of living in a democratic society - no wonder nigerians continue to remain abused and exploited by the west.

At a time in history, the late M.K.O. Abiola ordered the sinking of three million copies of the Bible in the high sea. The container load of the holy book was bound for Nigeria when he used his influence to seize and destroy them. The Christian world did not bat an eyelid.
