Dana Plane Crash: 2 Families Fight Over Corpse At LASUTH Mortuary by Nobody: 9:25am On Jun 13, 2012
Lies, the corpses, which were identifiable last week, had degenerated so much that they now looked alike.
Trouble started when the family of the late Mrs Jones Ifekanwa were told that another family, who refused to disclose their identity to newsmen, had also identified same corpse as their own.
Earlier, Chief Medical Examiner, LASUTH and consultant pathologist and forensic medicine, Professor John Obafunwa, had invited the Ifekanwa family to identify their late brother’s corpse, which they did with some difficulty, unlike last week when he was identified at firstsight.
The second family also picked same corpse as their late brother, who equally was involved in the crash.
As contention arose, Obafunwa was forced to deny both families ownership of the corpse, advising them to wait for the DNA result that would be available in about 4 weeks.
Enraged, the two families engaged themselves in verbal war that might have ended in fisticuff, but for the intervention of security men at the mortuary.
It was gathered that while the Ifekan was were sure of the body they identified, the contending family told Obafunwa they were not sure that the body was actually theirs.
Mrs Jennifer Enanana, elder sister to the late Mr Jones Ifekawa, told journalists that the deceased was identified at the crash site, adding that “he wasn’t burnt. He had his identity card with him and some other documents in his pockets, with that they identified him.”
Also on Tuesday, an angry relative of one of the deceased attacked LASUTH officials with a cutlass, though the assault was intercepted by a special squad of the Nigerian Police.
Meanwhile, two more bodies were claimed on Tuesday by two families, bringing the number of claimed bodies to eight. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/42471-dana-plane-crash-2-families-fight-over-corpse-at-lasuth-mortuary
What is really happening, one family was sure and the other wasn't sure, the other family also refused to disclose there identity, I think they should be taking in for some questions.
