The scheduled phase-two repairs of the Lagos 3rd-Mainland Bridge, which was shelved from 1 July, is now to begin tomorrow, Saturday,7 July.
The Minister of State for Works, Amb. Bashir Yuguda, announced this in Lagos this afternoon, before he led a delegation to the bridge’s site to officially flag-off the exercise.
Though the contractor, Borini Prono, will move to site tomorrow, the minister said diversion of traffic on the route will only begin on Sunday.
The minister promised to “ensure minimum discomfort” to motorists, working with all stakeholders, including the Lagos State government, that will manage traffic and provide alternative routes.
The repairs of eight expansion joints on the 11.8km-long bridge is to be undertaken over a four-month period. The 3rd-Mainland Bridge, commissioned in 1990, is the longest bridge in Africa and Nigeria, and is a major link bridge connecting Mainland Lagos to the Island.
