The Federal Government has spoken against branding Islamist group Boko Haram a terrorist organisation by the United States (US) as demanded by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leader Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

At a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Martin Uhomoibhi said the US Congress should have sought the government’s opinion instead of that of a particular religious leader.

The committee’s clerk, ALhaji Mohammed Zakari, yesterday quoted Uhomoibhi as saying Boko Haram (Western Education is a sin) was a security challenge, which the country had not seen since Independence.

“US should have sought the opinion of Nigeria and not that of CAN or its leader. Nigeria is a secular country, so, seeking the opinion of a religious group is wrong’’ he said.

FG stop complaining and call Ayo Oritsejafor to order. Also work on the security lapses and stop the killings.

Maybe because they searched and couldn't find any FG in Nigeria.Since the govt said they knw d sponsors and they have infiltrated the govt, what do u expect? They needed a neutral voice and opinion.Boko haram is a serious issue, but our govt is unserious so what do u want the US to do?

Why am I not surprised that its a muslim making the statement on behalf of 0f FG. A motive can be seen.
Nigeria has never had a no- nonsense, vocal and action-packed CAN president. They even said Oritsejafor does not behave like a pastor. I guess they never heard of Martin Luther King.
To also answer this Alhajis question on why the US did not consult the FG rather CAN. Do you think the US is into games or politics when it comes to security. They know FG is not serious about tackling serious issues. What do you expect the FG to say at the conference? That they have met the deadline of stopping the killings in june or that they are on top of the situation?

He is just jealous that he was not the one invited by the US to comment on the situation in Nigeria.

Mr Zakari, I have never heard of you, or read of you commenting against the Boko Haram scourge out there. To this day, many of your islamic leaders are not open in condemning the situation in the North and the Boko Haram Campaign. Oritsejafor on the other hand has been vocal against the boko Harm scourge in the North and has now decided to take his fight abroad. Stop being jealous and do something about the problem instead.

We shouldn't wait to be invited by foreign powers before we condemn evil. These senseless killing must be stopped and this requires us all to play a decisive role. Let's help our security to end BH and make Nigeria a better place. #naijagobeta

Call him to order for what? What did he do wrong? Go read his statement to the US and tell us where he was out of order? What National "SECRETS" did he divulge? What Lies did he tell? Please go read his statement and come tell us.

It could be that the FG and Orit both have different views of BOKO haram if not if their views were aligned, there would be no news!

if mr zakari feels oritsejafor's address of the US foreign affairs committee is false, then he should dispute otherwise.

he thinks the US is dumb to seek the opinion of a clueless govt and talk less of a northern cabals that are hell bent on disrupting any threat to their born to rule bais.
