Bold face falsehood

How is it possible for $275,782,661.25 and $280,417,661.35 amounts to N1.2 Billion. What exchange rate did he used to get N1.2 Billion.

He is still economical with the truth.

It might be reporter's error. Total cost of auction sales was 1,200,000 USD.

The helicopters, a Bell 206L4 BZB and a Bell M2061-L4, were reportedly sold for $650,000 and $550,000 respectively in May 2023, with approval from the Federal Ministry of Works and Ministry of Aviation.

https://nairametrics.com/2024/02/18/reps-launches-probe-into-ncats-sale-of-2-helicopters-at-80-discount/

The Committee lamented that Bell 206L4 BZB and Bell M2061- L4 helicopters bought at about 7 million dollars will be sold at a ridiculous amount to private individuals for less than 20 percent of the cost price.

The Committee also noted that the amount NCAT claimed to have been paid to the treasury of government in June last year is far less than the $1.2 million they agreed to have been collected for the sale of the two helicopters given the exchange rate at that time.

Storm in a teacup.

The Rector of the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Kaduna State, Captain Akali Modibo, has debunked the insinuation that two helicopters are missing in the college.

He said the helicopters in question were duly sold as they were becoming a drain on the resources of the college, revealing that the college spent N5bn maintaining them for about 10 years while lying idle in the hangar.

It would be recalled that the choppers, Bell 206, were bought during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan for the purpose of training pilots, but the equipment were not the type used for training by the college.

As a result, the planes were redundant for 10 years until a decision was made to sell them.

“If the government had involved NCAT, we would have told them the type of aircraft we can use for training, which is piston engine helicopters. Nowhere in the world is this helicopter type used for training. It’s like you using a Boeing 737 aircraft to teach someone how to become a pilot; you don’t do that.”

https://dailytrust.com/ncat-auctions-2-helicopters-for-n940bn/

Mr Modibbo explained that a federal government licenced auctioneer, Messrs Tresmo Nigeria Limited, was appointed to dispose of the affected helicopters sequel to the approval and valuation reports obtained from the Federal Ministries of Aviation and Works, respectively.

According to him, the auctioneer paid $275,782,661.25 and $280,417,661.25 (totalling N1.2 billion) vide FGN Remita receipts bearing reference numbers 3008-4333-3046 and 1008-4304-1098, accordingly.

Furthermore, the NCAT chief executive said that the Federal Ministry of Aviation in a letter dated 15th March 2023, granted approval for the disposal of the two Bell 206 helicopters to enable the college to acquire Basic Trainer Helicopters.

The NCAT Rector added that the auctioneer also accepted and executed the disposal of the helicopters via a letter signed by Baba Malik on 7th April 2023, which also remitted the proceeds of N1.2 billion into the Federal Government account.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said: “As today’s Indictment alleges, KuCoin and its founders deliberately sought to conceal the fact that substantial numbers of U.S. users were trading on KuCoin’s platform. Indeed, KuCoin allegedly took advantage of its sizeable U.S. customer base to become one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency derivatives and spot exchanges, with billions of dollars of daily trades and trillions of dollars of annual trade volume. But financial institutions like KuCoin that take advantage of the unique opportunities available in the United States must also comply with U.S. law to help identify and drive out crime and corrupt financing schemes. KuCoin allegedly deliberately chose not to do so. As alleged, in failing to implement even basic anti-money laundering policies, the defendants allowed KuCoin to operate in the shadows of the financial markets and be used as a haven for illicit money laundering, with KuCoin receiving over $5 billion and sending over $4 billion of suspicious and criminal funds. Crypto exchanges like KuCoin cannot have it both ways. Today’s Indictment should send a clear message to other crypto exchanges: if you plan to serve U.S. customers, you must follow U.S. law, plain and simple.”

Jobs/Vacancies / Human Traffickers Are Luring Nigerians With Fake $900 Pay Jobs - NAPTIP by aieromon(m): 8:49am On Mar 26
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said it has uncovered a ploy by some suspected human traffickers to lure Nigerians with fake jobs in Ghana, Ivory Coast, and other countries in West Africa.

The Agency explained that the suspected traffickers exploit coordinated global brand trademarks and present unrealistic oil and gas job offers to traffic youths and other groups of people to neighbouring countries in the region for various forms of exploitation.

NAPTIP said victims are enticed with promises of monthly incomes of $900 under the guise of lucrative employment opportunities in gold mining and oil companies.

According to the agency, the victims are trafficked through the waterways of Ode Jetty in Lagos en route to Benin Republic and other parts of the West African region

It added that some victims are also trafficked through the land routes.

The Director-General of NAPTIP, Prof Fatima Waziri-Azi, revealed this at the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja while discussing emerging trends in human trafficking for the year 2024.

Giving details of how the traffickers operate, Waziri-Azi in a statement in Abuja by the Communication Officer of NAPTIP, Adekoye Vincent stated: “NAPTIP has uncovered a new ploy by some suspected human traffickers who are exploiting coordinated global brand trademarks and offering unrealistic Oil and Gas job offers to traffic unsuspecting youths and other classes of people to neighbouring West African countries for various forms of exploitation.

“In recent times, NAPTIP has redoubled its efforts through enhanced partnership, collaboration, diligent prosecution, and extensive awareness campaigns aimed at bolstering its operations, resulting in a significant increase in convictions of human traffickers.

"As part of our comprehensive enlightenment strategies to equip Nigerians with timely and accurate information to reduce their vulnerability, we have received reports indicating that traffickers have adopted new tactics to lure unsuspecting victims, predominantly to Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, and other West African nations.”

Waziri–Azi added: “Under the guise of lucrative employment opportunities in gold mining and oil companies, victims are enticed with promises of monthly incomes as high as $900.00, which, as always, are blatant lies.”

“Victims are often instructed to bring up to N850,000 for documentation and other logistical expenses. Upon arrival at their destination, traffickers confiscate this money, along with the victims’ phones and other personal belongings.”

On the category of people targetted, she said: “The targeted demographic includes male and female victims aged between 15 and 35 years old.

“They are typically trafficked through the waterways of Ode Jetty in Lagos en route to Benin Republic and other parts of the West African region. Some victims are also trafficked via land routes.”

Prof. Waziri-Azi while calling on Nigerians to be careful, stated: “I urge you to exercise caution, ask questions, and seek a second opinion before accepting any tempting offers. Do not allow desperation to cloud your judgment.”

She expressed NAPTIP’s commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting the rights and dignity of all Nigerians.

Court Jails two Internet Fraudsters in Maiduguri

The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 secured the conviction and sentence of two internet fraudsters.

They are Omachile Gabriel (alias Priest Tamara Shane)and Micah Njawindumai (alias Edgar David, Oldmangt, Professional Hacker).

They were jailed by Justice J.K Dagat of the Federal High Court sitting in Maiduguri on a one-count separate charge bordering on money laundering.

The count against Gabriel reads: “That you, Commander Omachile Gabriel (alias Priests Tamara Shane) with National Identification Number (NIN): 86288294866 on or about the year, 2023 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did directly take possession of sum of about $30.00 (Thirty United State of America Dollars) only being value of multi crypto which you reasonably ought to have known that the funds form part of proceeds of an unlawful act of impersonating Priestess Tamara Shane and thereby commit an offence contrary to Section 18(2)(d) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2022 and punishable under Section 18(3) of the same Act.”

All the defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charges when they were read to them.

Based on their pleas, EFCC Counsel, Faruk Muhammad prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendants accordingly

Justice Dagat thereafter sentenced them to four years imprisonment each. He ordered that the sum of $30.00( Thirty United States Dollars) recovered during investigation be forfeited to the victim through the Federal Government of Nigeria.

All other items recovered from the convicts comprising phones of different brands, laptops and others should also be forfeited to the government.

The convicts bagged their imprisonment when they were arrested for internet-related offences. They were charged to court and convicted.

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/679255-exclusive-fayemi-replies-afe-babalola-says-legal-luminary-driven-by-hate-narcissism.html

Fayose has also responded to Afe Babalola.

“He is our leader, we owe everything to him, we cannot join issues with him, we will continue to respect him. In this case, he must have been misquoted,” Mr Fayose told PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr Fayose explained that everyone who has governed the state in the past tried, as no one could finish the job in his lifetime.

He stressed that Mr Babalola himself is trying at everything he is doing, but that he would not finish every good thing he intends to achieve.

“I want to believe he must have been misquoted, Governor Adebayo did his best. Governor Fayemi did his best. I did my best.

In fact, what Baba said about me in 2018 does not correlate with what you are saying he said about me yesterday,” Mr Fayose added.

Afe in 2018
His words: “I was a frontliner in the struggle, our hopes, most of them have not been achieved. This is a special day because some 55 years ago I practised law in this place. It is for Fayose that the face of practising law would be changed for the better in Ekiti. Fayose is a magician, miracle maker, visioner, architect, planner, an executioner, a patriot from Ekiti from Yoruba land and to the whole of Nigeria. “When on October 12, 2016 he promised to change the face of the judiciary to modern structures, and vowed to complete it in 18 months, there were doubting Thomases but now he has done it. He is a wonderful man.
“Our hope was that we would make Ekiti the best place in Nigeria. Those who are blessed and are Ekiti and whom we relied on at that time have not lived up to our expectations except of course for me who have been able to put up a tertiary institution that has become the best in the country. We therefore urge our blessed Ekiti sons and daughters to come home and develop the state,” he said.
