First empty the radiator (loosen the drain plug under it) and once the radiator is completely empty switch on your engine for a few minutes until your temperature needle reaches the middle (I am assuming you have a thermostat) and once it reaches the middle you can then switch off the engine, replace the radiator drain plug and then proceed to fill up the radiator with the coolant.

Start the engine again and leave the radiator cap open, once the coolant level goes down fill it up, keep filling it up till it's level then replace the cover.

Remember to leave the coolant overflow container empty till after the engine has cooled down properly before you can now fill it up with coolant to the recommended level.

DO NOT FILL THE COOLANT OVERFLOW CONTAINER UNTIL YOU HAVE PROPERLY BLED THE COOLING SYSTEM TO REDUCE THE RISK OF OVERHEATING
Thank you

Once the radiator hose is disconnected the water in the engine will find it's way out too assuming the drain hose is the one below
Yes it is. Thanks

Hello house

If I want to change from water to coolant, is it okay to empty only the radiator and leave the one inside the engine?

Most mechanics are just dumb assholes, they will be changing one thing after another until they completely kill your Engine. Had the same problem with my car and they continued extorting me until I had to buy a new engine and that solved my problem permanently. If the cooling fan is working and water pump is working without leakage then the radiator is probably dirty or bad you may either wash it or buying a new one will be better. But know that radiator issue is usually accompanied by irregular movement of your temperature metre. The temperature gauge always goes up and down.
You said you usually top water everyday, then look for leakages especially at the radiator and water pump side
Funny how I have this exact issue with irregular temperature gauge

Maybe I should buy a new radiator

Check radiator, fan, water pump. If any is bad, replace the part.

It is either radiator or water pump. Once the temp has risen above the middle mark, switch on your heater, if the temp reduces, definitely your radiator is faulty.
Okay. I'll try this. Thank you.

Do you advice buying double cell radiator?

Cos that's what these guys are advertising

Remote diagnosis would be difficult.
Your temperature shouldn't even get to the middle with your current setup.
You'll need a technician to physically inspect your cooling system and fix what's wrong.
Exactly. I've taken it for pressure test.
They said its the radiator cap. Changed it and same thing is still happening.

Do you have any technician you can recommend in Lagos?

Is the thermostat still in the engine?
Is the radiator water dripping in level?
No thermostat. I plan to put it once I figure out the issue.
Radiator water doesn't reduce

This is I returning to thank everyone who one
way or the other helped me in suggesting ways I could get my car ish resolved.
1. So after reading all pages of the thread from 1 to the end I got to understand what the problem could be.

2.My car was towed to ikeja on thursday 9th of September 8pm. (The Mechanics brought a truck).

3. I was told to go that I’d be contacted the next day. I was called the next day 12pm and 40k was requested. (They had loosed the car as at this time).

4. The gasket got changed, something was done to the cylinder head too, new oil and plugs and one bad coil.

5. My car was driven by me on Saturday 11th September by 7pm from Ikeja to everywhere! (that is after serious testing by the mechanics. The tracker kept showing different locations and I was calling to know why it was driven to those places).

6. They told me no need to change the radiator, water pump and all of that. (I was shocked).

7. I intentionally made up my mind to wait for at least a month plus to be triple sure before coming to Share my testimonyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Nairalanders! This one is for you guys! Thank you, Thank you and thank you again!
For the naysayers, I told y’all I will update my testimony right? No single overheating, no stopping me on the way, no trouble, no Nothing! Give the Lord a shouuuttttttttt somebody! grin grin grin grin I have been driving everywhere! Anywhere! Anytime!
Coolant still where it was like the day I got it back! Nothing like having a car my people! Bye bye to stress! No single joy in waiting under the rain and sun at bus stands with so much people Kai! Y’all need to see how comfortable i feel that I can drive out just anytime with as little as 5k or 2k fuel sef.

For everyone believing for a car may your heart desires be met in no time. Amen. Thank you everyone.

Hello, please which mechanic did you take it to?

I just scanned it today and the rewire said it's the knock sensor that I should change it.
Meanwhile, I have taken the car to gear repairer and he said nothing wrong with my gear that I should change knock sensor and brain box.. I just pray it's works.

E gbami oooo
Just change the knock sensor.

I don't think it has anything to do with the brainbox.

Had a similar experience and changing the knock sensor solved it

Hello house

My 2010 honda crv temperature gauge rises to almost high whenever I'm on the express.

But whenever I'm within the streets or inner roads, it doesn't go past the middle.

The fans are connected directly and it runs with water (plan to revert to factory setting as soon as I figure out what the problem is)

So the temperature shouldn't go beyond the halfway mark at all but it does and happens when I'm only on the express

Some are saying water pump, others are saying radiator.

Don't want to do trial and error

Please what could be the problem?

Thanks, how is the fuel economy like for someone who have used a civic/corrolla.
Lol. You can't compare fuel economy of cuvs with that of cars like civic/corolla.

That said, the fuel economy is not bad. Just ensure your parts like a/f Sensors or knock sensors are working fine. Service with recommended engine oil. Scan car for other errors

All these help to improve fuel economy

The orange coloured bottle with green color coolant has been in existence since ages. They made improvement by bringing out coolant HTX or something like that.

Buy the pink type one with white plastic container cause of the type of vehicle you drive.

Oh, you mean total right?

Yeah. I don't think they sell the orange one agains sef.

Thanks

Your normal 22" 'flat by ring spanners' should work it out.

The way the sensor is built, it can't.
