Literature / Street Photography Dream by Deejay1000(m): 12:00am On Mar 03
In Nigeria, life's challenges are so overwhelming that even when lemons are thrown at you, you might not notice them.

Adebisi had always dreamt of being a street photographer professionally, but the country's hardships forced her to find other ways to make ends meet

She is the only child of her mother, who everyone lovingly refers to as Mama Bisi.
She singlehandedly raised her daughter.

This was her third effort at the yearly GeegPay photography competition. Every year, amateur and professional photographers from all around the nation compete in this annual photography competition to display their skills.

She had prepared thoroughly this year, studying what previous champions had done and how they had found inspiration for the perfect photo.

Adebisi enjoyed assisting her mother in the famed ikorodu garage, with selling kpomo (cow hides). During weekends.

When she was less busy, she generally shot pictures of different individuals, from the passengers hurrying to enter the bus to the local youngsters screaming different places the bus goes to, to the traffic officers etc.

The big day had arrived, and she had captured a beautiful image of her mother smiling, which she thought was ideal...

She lost the competition, which affected her particularly hard because she finished fourth, missing out on the award for the top three spots.

Adebisi dream of being a photographer almost died with the loss but she persevered, she had a tough upbringing growing up without a father and she normally draws inspiration from her mom and what she had been through

She opted to participate in an online street photography competition hosted by Leica 6*7 Gallery Warsaw. The competition is open and free for all street photographers worldwide, with a maximum of five images.

Adebisi finished in second place, falling short behind Brazilian wildlife photographer Luis Moreal.

This boosted her Instagram account from 300 subscribers to 10k in a couple of days with a $5,000 cash gift.

Find something positive and financially rewarding and invest your time and energy to it.

Always remember that you are replaceable In your job so don't feel too special no one is indispensable.

Time does not wait for no one.

Celebrity Fan Addict, Arguing over who is better won't put food on your table

#Dem no even send your papa

That time can be spent doing something productive, read a book or learn something new instead.

You need to invest in yourself, invest in your future use your time while you are young.

You are not going to be strong both physically and mentally like you are now ever again.

YOU HAVE A JOB THAT PAYS YOU JUST ENOUGH TO SURVIVE BUT EATS UP ALL YOUR TIME

We all need to prepare for the future which is now.

you may have a job presently but the money is not enough.

What else can you devote your time to that will
Give you extra source of income/knowledge or connect with people.

Think about it and invest your time and energy into that.

The government has weaponized poverty they know that if the youths are financially free In this country things would have changed for the better

If you a youth of this country you know. How hell bent the government is trying to kill our spirits

Man City arguably has the best squad in the world.
But in football, the best side doesn't always win because so many other factors come into play, even sheer luck. That's why football is tagged the Beautiful Game.

Anyhow, Man City will qualify for Final tonight. cool

Giving power to an average nigerian youth is like giving cocaine to someone....give them power and they'd get high on it never willing to let go, look at all african dictators; they entered power as youths. I'd rather vote for someone old and near retirement than risk having a youthful dictator.

the 2023 election is almost here again and not surprisingly it's still the same set of crooks, old men regrouping to take over from another old man who promised us heaven on earth only to do the opposite of all what he promised.
indeed "our mumu never do".
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. Albert Einstein

we expect the country to get better yet we keep voting for the same set of people again and again.

according to Pareto's principle, 20% of a nation's population control 80% of a country's wealth. 90% of Nigeria is below the poverty line yet we keep fighting ourselves daily online and offline.

the politicians know too well how to divide and rule us just like the British did before them. they know that a united voice will be the end of them so they take it upon themselves to divide the populace through different means which we all know too well.
1. Religion: "the opium of the masses"
2. Tribalism: " the north with their born to rule mentality"
3. weaponizing poverty: this is the biggest problem we as a country are actually facing in wealth distribution.
4. greed: also an offspring of poverty

until we rise up and fight for our future as the youths of this country things will remain the same. it doesn't matter which old crook is going to win the forthcoming election. we will still be lamenting and wailing continuously till we age.

the EndSars Protest of 2020 is just the beginning of what is to come if things don't change for the better in this country.
there is going to be a full-scale revolution in this country in the near future for things to actually change and lives will be lost.

for a country as large as Nigeria which claims to be smart we are always ruled by the worst amongst us.
I think our biggest challenge is poverty and corruption which have eaten deep into the very soul of the nation
.
we often complain of the government is corrupt but it's actually everywhere. where do these government officials come from?

when there is a hardship on the land people resort to evil and wicked things to survive, these people may not have the intention of doing some of these things from the onset but "evil takes time"...

now, what is the possible solutions to ending all these menaces in the country?

1. fostering unity amongst ourselves: every day on nairaland we see tribal bigots, religious bigots insult themselves. and the elites have taken advantage of this situation to divide us further.

2. finding a way out of poverty: jobs are scarce even if you are a 1st Class graduate. thankfully we are in the internet age where you can learn new skills to make money online legally. it does take time but surely with persistence, we will get there. depending on govt jobs is a no-brainer.

3. don't be idle: an idle mind is the devil's workshop. get something to do for yourself and don't allow politicians to use and dump you like a sanitary pad.

4. invest in yourself and the future: if you have the means of traveling out for the betterment of your life please do. and if you feel you can stay here and build it up from scratch it's also welcomed.

finally, for things to get better in this country there must be room for positive change in all ramifications, not the one the present govt promised us and delivered the other way round.
