Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has promised Nigerians that the force would secure a conviction against billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumebi Onwuamaegbu aka Evans and one Henry Chibueze (aka Vampire), another alleged kidnapper.
He was Speaking at the security summit held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, on Tuesday, where he made it known and also praised the National Assembly for passing the anti-kidnapping bill into law, which carries a death sentence for offenders.

In his words, he said: ‘Most heinous crimes, especially kidnapping and armed robbery, which occurred, have so far been detected.

“You are very much aware of the fate of the notorious kidnapper, Henry Chibueze (alias Vampire) and the billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudi (alias Evans) and many others too numerous to mention here, who were arrested and many of them being prosecuted.

“Considering the detailed investigation being conducted on these cases, Insha Allah, we must gain conviction.”

Idris also hyped praises on the police and military Operation Python Dance troop following their ability to control the recent IPOB clash in Abia state.

Barely 24 hours after the Nigerian army said it would begin its second phase of Operation Python Dance II in the South Eastern states, video shows soldiers in armoured tank and some patrol vans allegedly invade the home of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu while some IPOB supporters tried to resist them.

The video also shows one of the IPOB supporters who was shot as the military personnel kept shooting live bullets to disperse the irate youths.

Igbo National Council, INC, Sunday, gave the Chief of Army staff, Lieutenant General Turkur Yusufu Burutai, 21 days to withdraw his men from the Southeast region.

This was stated in a release issued in Owerri, and signed by the National President, Comrade Chilos Godsent. The release also warned that it would sue the Nigeria Army to the International Criminal Court, ICC, for genocide against the Southeast region. As captured by the release, “In view of the above, the Igbo National Council, INC, has analysed the state of the Southeast and the Nigerian state and hereby state the following. “The Nigeria state is not at war with the people of South-East Nigeria, and therefore wish to call on the president and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces. “The leadership of the National Assembly to mandate the Minister of Defence staff, Chief of Army Staff, to immediately withdraw the military arbitrarily deployed to Southeast to murder innocent civilians. “If this is not adhered to within twenty one days (21) the Igbo National Council, INC, will petition and also sue the Nigeria Army and the Federal government, to International Criminal Court, ICC, for genocide against the armless people of the southeast Nigeria.”

Controversial Enugu-based Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka has predicted what will likely happen should agitators succeed in their push for the actualisation of Biafra.Mbaka stated that he was convinced that fault lines between different Igbo communities would arise if Biafra ever became a reality.


The priest made this prediction while addressing a cross section of Igbos in East London, on Tuesday.
According to Mbaka’s statement;

“If you think we have trouble in Nigeria now, we will see trouble in Biafra.
“No Anambra man would let an Enugu man be president, no Imo man would let an Abakaliki man be president”.
Mbaka also faulted claims that the South East is being marginalised.

Citing the immediate past administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, the controversial priest said an Igbo was Finance Minister, Central Bank governor, and so on.

Mbaka also noted that those whom the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu have been able to influence into agitating for Biafra are “the children of the poor,” who are not thinking properly about the implications of secession.

He insisted Biafra agitators were being deceived by Nnamdi Kanu.

The Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has charged the Federal Government to look into political solution for the agitations by ethnic-based groups in the country rather than the employment of what he described as “brute force”.
Fayose hailed governors of the South Easten states for their meeting with leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu saying ‘the meeting has provided a veritable platform, which all Igbos must key into otherwise they will remain guinea pig as long as this country exists’.

Fayose appealed to the Federal Government to “allow political solutions to agitations by Nigerians as against the use of brute force,” which, he said had “become the hallmark of the President Buhari-led administration.” From his statement to, he remained “committed to the call for full and total restructuring of Nigeria through dialogue and negotiation because it is too late for Nigeria to disintegrate.”

Governor Fayose said he was “particularly glad that South East governors have come to the realisation that they cannot ignore their own in times like these as agitations are normal and must not be ignored, although the approach should be handled with caution.”

He blamed the actions and utterances of President Muhammadu Buhari for the agitations going on in the country, saying; “The father figure of this country is President Buhari and if his language does not represent unity, there will be agitations like we are witnessing now. “A father figure rallies even the bad boys in his house. The utterances and actions when he became President were against the unity of this country. How can a president say that he will only attend to the needs of those who gave him 97 per cent vote and neglect others who didn’t vote for him? “For Nigeria to move forward and in unity; there must be no sectionalism, there must be no oppression and there must be justice and equity.”

Fayose, who commended the Northern leaders for standing up to ensure that the Arewa Youths’ quit notice against the Igbos in the North was resolved and withdrawn without necessarily arresting and detaining anyone, said; “I am sure that the same can be achieved by the Igbo leaders as arresting or re-arresting Kanu may be counterproductive as it may be perceived as vilification of the entire South East Region, not necessarily Kanu as a person.”

The statement read in part; “This meeting has provided a veritable platform, which all Igbos must key into otherwise they will remain guinea pigs as long as this country exists. “That His Royal Highness, Eze Israel Okwu Kanu, the father of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu and elder-statesman, Professor Ben Nwabueze (SAN), were part of the meeting is a sign of strong determination and unity on the part of the South-East leaders and their governors, which I believe will end up in the amicable resolution of all issues involved, especially by pro-Biafra activists, especially the IPOB.

“While I appeal to the federal government to allow political solutions to agitations by Nigerians as against the use of brute force, which regrettably, has become the hallmark of this administration. I remain committed to the call for full and total restructuring of Nigeria through dialogue and negotiation. Even though it is too late for Nigeria to disintegrate, we do not need APC kind of restructuring.

“Once again, I salute my brother governors from the Southeast for their historic meeting of yesterday and I urge them not to relent in their efforts to bring lasting peace and harmony to their region. Not fewer than 16,000 people have been chased from their homes by an early morning rainstorm, Monday, and a resultant flood that submerged more than 2,500 houses in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, and its environs.
The flood, said to be the worst after that of 2012 when River Benue broke its banks, also swept away hundreds of millions of Naira worth of property and valuables in a downpour that lasted over four hours.

Lagos Division of the Federal High Court on Tuesday fixed September 5 to hear arguments from counsel on why he should not deliver judgment on the fundamental rights application filed by Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans.
Justice Abdulaziz Anka, who had earlier fixed today for judgment, said he would not go ahead when there are pending applications before him.
The question is, can I still go ahead when there are still motions before me and the fact that the applicant refused service?” Mr. Anka asked.
“I’ve read the case file, I’ve seen the processes attached inclusive of a court order.”
The judge had adjourned on August 16 to deliver a judgment on the fundamental rights application filed by Mr. Onwuamadike. The first and second respondents, the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force, did not send a legal representative throughout the hearing.

But the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, the third and fourth respondents, were represented by lawyers who argued that their colleagues were not served the court process.
On Tuesday, David Igbodo, a lawyer, announced appearance for the first and second respondents, saying they did not receive any court process in Abuja.
Mr. Igbodo, a Commissioner of Police (Legal), said they had filed a motion before the judge making five applications, including an order seeking to set aside the ruling on August 16 as well as the adjournment for judgment without hearing his clients.

He also said the police was seeking an order to set aside the purported application and submission made by Henry Obiazi without authority, and an order granting leave to the first and second respondents to file their counter affidavits.

“Parties have been served though the applicant, I was told, refused to accept service,” said Mr. Igbodo.
“The application is before your lordship, it’s our belief that this court is a court of justice.”
In his response, Mr. Ogungbeje said he never received any application from the police, insisting that the last adjournment had been for judgment and not to entertain fresh applications.

“It is our strong view to the learned counsel to the first and second respondents that his application is calculated to arrest the judgment of the court,” said Mr. Ogungbeje.
The lawyer also said he could not have refused service from the police because he was out of town.
After the judge said he would be unable to go ahead with the judgment until the pending applications before him are heard, the lawyers from both sides could not agree on the next date for adjournment.

Mr. Igbodo said he would be traveling to China on official assignment next week and requested for a date in the last week of September.

“This matter is very important to the Inspector General. Before that 25th (of September, the applicant will be charged to court,” Mr. Igbodo added.
But Mr. Ogungbeje disagreed, insisting that his client needs to know his fate as soon as possible.

The judge stood down the matter for both parties to agree on a date, and later adjourned to September 5 to hear arguments.

Gambia has been declared winner of the Jollof Rice Competition organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) as part of activities marking the Jollof Festival at the weekend.
The competition, which featured Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria and Senegal, formed part of the “See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, and Feel Ghana”campaign being championed by the GTA, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to promote local tourism on a global scale.
Gambia reportedly prepared the jollof rice without tomatoes but with mustard, fish and other ingredients, making their jollof yellowish-white as compared to Ghana, who used tilapia, tomatoes and other ingredients to make their jollof attractive and tasty, giving it a reddish colour.

Nigerian and Senegalese chefs used ingredients they believed could make their jollof super and delicious but, unfortunately, they could not win.

Ongoing police investigation of suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, has revealed that he was also involved in crimes in South Africa, it was gathered last night.

That is besides his alleged illegal procurement of a Ghanaian passport that bears his passport photograph but a Ghanaian name.

Police spokesman, Mr. Moshood Jimoh, told The us that the investigation has also led to the arrest of more associates of Evans who were found to be probably wealthier and living bigger than him.

He is spending his second month in police custody and is expected to be formally charged within the next one month, Jimoh said.:

According to him,Federal High Court granted us a three month remand warrant for Evans. We are just into the second month now and before the expiration of the third month, it is expected that we should be taking him to court.
“The little time is to ensure that we conduct a thorough and detailed investigation.
“This is somebody that committed crimes across several states and even went outside Nigeria.
“You may recall that he illegally acquired a Ghanaian passport with a Ghanaian name but with his passport photograph.
“He was also fingered for involvement in other crimes in South Africa and other places. So we need a little time to properly round things up and ensure that he is properly prosecuted because Nigerians will not be happy if we lose such a case in court on the basis of technical matters.”

Ex- President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday reacted to the various news of corrupt acts allegedly perpetrated by some of his cabinet who served during his administration. Speaking at the PDP non-elective convention in Abuja yesterday.

Goodluck said although his administration weighed a war against corruption, it did not plug all the loopholes where finances were embezzled by some indicted officials of his administration.

“Though we didn’t completely plug the loopholes in the fight against corruption, but we did well. I learnt that some people said that if the PDP had remained in power beyond 2015, the economy would have been worse. Nollywood actress Ebube Nwagbo in a recent interview with us has opened up on her career, life and many more.
Excerpts:I went for an audition like every other person and luckily. I was chosen and got the lead role.

What are you currently working on?

I have just released my second movie entitled, ‘Not Enough’. It is my second movie as a producer.

What inspired you to go into movie production?

It was the passion I have for what I do. I also thought it was time for me to spread my tentacles, try out other things and develop myself. Also, I wanted to give back to an industry that has given so much to me and made me who I am today.

What are the basic challenges you face as a producer?

There are lots of challenges one faces as a producer and they range from creativity to originality. There is also the challenge of trying to come up with something different from the norm because most people are into producing now. Besides that, funding a production is not easy because you invest a lot into the project. With the economic situation of the country now, making sales is not guaranteed. And being accepted as a producer is not that easy because it entails a lot to be a good one, it is not a joke.

What message are you trying to pass through the movie?

The movie is centered on the youths of today looking for short cuts. They want to have the shortest cut to success and accomplishments in life. We need to set our priorities right at an early stage in order to secure our future. The decisions you make today, the life you live today determines your future. The movie also sheds light on the young girls of today that get pregnant without prior planning or knowing what they really want in life, thinking that getting pregnant for a man will make him marry or love them. Love can’t be forced. The movie, Not Enough also sheds light on weak parental guidance and peer pressure. It is a family story that has a lot of messages and lessons in it.



Has it been easy to combine acting and movie production?

It has not been easy combining acting and producing but it is what I love to do. It keeps me on my feet. I try to tell stories that are not only entertaining but also educating, stories with morals to learn from and messages to pass across.

Tell us about your most challenging movie role?

Every movie comes with its own challenges because you are being someone else at every point in time. But one of the most challenging movies ever was my first film as an actress. The movie was entitled, Arrested By Love. It was my first time facing the camera and I was playing lead. I didn’t have an idea of what I was going into or what I was doing. But big thanks to the cast and crew of that amazing job. They believed in me more than I believed in myself.

What did you like about the character you played in that movie?

I loved the character I played in the movie because I was a born-again Christian who changed a bad boy to a good boy by simply being herself.

Can you go nu*de for a movie?

I don’t think I can do that. However, I don’t have anything against whoever can go all the way. It is you doing your job so it shouldn’t be a problem, but personally I can’t.

What part of your body do you treasure most?
