The boy 'made certain the gun was loaded, cocked the hammer on the gun and shot the victim just above the heart at a downward trajectory'

An 11-year-old boy has been found guilty of murdering an 8-year-old girl after she and her sister refused to let him see theirpuppies. WATE-TV reportsthat judge Dennis “Will” Roach II this week found the boy guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced him to state custody until he turns 19.In his order, which WATE posted online, Roach said the state should use all reasonable resources to determine why the boy shot the girl, and he should be treated and rehabilitated so this never happens again.
“A child who commits first-degree murder cannot be willy-nilly turned loose into society,” Roach wrote. The boy is currently in detention and being evaluated as to where he should be placed, said Rob Johnson, a spokesman for the Department of Children's Services. “Like any other child who comes into custody, he would need a thorough assessment and evaluation to determine the best placement,” Johnson said. “At this time, it would likely be at an intensive treatment program at one of our private providers.” The boy has five siblings — three brothers and two sisters — who have been placed with relatives and the state, Johnson said. The boy and 8-year-old MaKayla Dyer lived in the same mobile home park in Tennessee. MaKayla, her 11-year-old sister and another girl, also 11, were playing outside and talking to the boy while he was sitting at his bedroom window on October3, 2015. He asked the sisters to go get their puppies, the judge's order says, and when they refused he went and got a 12-gauge shotgun and a BB gun and told the girls he had guns. According to the judge's description of the events, MaKayla laughed at him and responded that the guns weren't real. The boy “then made certain the gun was loaded, cocked the hammer on the gun and shot thevictim just above the heart at a downward trajectory,” the judge wrote. The girl fell backward, “quickly lost consciousness, and was later confirmed dead,” the judge wrote, adding that three witnesses saw McKayla within one minute after she was shot. “The mother of the child knelt onthe ground and picked her up, placing her child in her arms as she passed away.” The boy had been trained in firearm safety and had hunted with his father and grandfather, the judge noted.

Throwing away that Bitcoin portfolio.

James Howells bought7,500 Bitcoins in 2009when their value was next to nothing. By 2013, one Bitcoin was worth £613, givingthe Welshman a portfolio worth £4.5m. The only trouble? He'd left his hard drive tucked away in a drawer for years and then thrown it away without a minute's thought. After realising his mistake, he made a hopeful trip to his local landfill site where he was told the hard drive could be at any spot under around 5ft of rubbish.

Ordering trains that were too wide

Not buying Google for $1m

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin approached Excite CEO George Bell in 1999, saying they were looking to sell the search engine for around $1m. With Bell notkeen on the initial offering, the pair went down to $750,000 in a bid to tempt him. He still rejected. Today, Google is valued at around $365bn. Oops.

Selling 610,000 shares instead of one

In 2005, a Japanese trader cost his company £190m after aso-called "fat finger" tradein which he sold 610,000 shares for 1 yen (0.5p) instead of selling one share at 610,000 yen as he was supposed to.Despite repeated requests from Mizuho Securities to cancel the trade, the Tokyo Stock Exchange refused to comply and the company was forced to buy back the shares at an inflated cost.
