Agriculture / Re: How Can I Grow My Plantain And Banana Trees Faster? (Photos) by endy231: 4:38pm On Jul 03, 2023
The soil doesn't look fertile though. Poultry waste is better but if you dont have access to it, you can use the pig dump. But you should first keep it to dry before application.

Senkasa:
I planted this giant Malaysian plantain suckling (4) 2 weeks ago in my backyard but it is yet to start growing. The other grown plantain tree has around 15 suckling clearly sprouting out but at a slow rate. I once dug hole near the roots and used fertilizer seeds on it but didn't see any result.

On the other hand, my banana sucklings are growing slowly unlike my neighbor's that are growing very fast with the leaves all over the fence.

I heard fowl or pig dump can work wonders but the former is scarce in my area. I am now planning on using pig dump

I need your suggestions pls..
Career / Re: My Experience With My Boss At The Office Today. by endy231: 7:06pm On May 20, 2022
What exactly is your job description? If it has nothing to do with office assistant, then you shouldn't have started it in the first place.
Making yourself available to carry bag(s) means your job description is very light or you want to impress your boss as a good guy.
If you carry his bag, why should you have a worry carrying the bag of his friend? Meaning that you are carrying the bag for personal reasons and not humility.

not that am feeling proud or anything but MY CUCUMBER is larger than these....
My Brother, the bigger the cucumber the lower the price in the open market. Don't be deceived, expect you have a direct market or a super store to supply, it may not a viable biz concept. I was once a victim. Medium sized cucumber is best for the market.

Agriculture / Re: Should I Quit My Job And Start Farming Tomatoes? Advice Please by endy231: 3:23pm On Oct 22, 2018
Benyfil:
Greetings Nairalanders

I will go straight to my point.

My salary is 59k and after monthly deductions (loans) I get N39k and it remains just a month to finish paying up my loans and I go back to receiving 59k. I have a wife and 2 kids (5years and 2 years).

I already have 3 hectares of cassava and another 1 hectare which I intend planting tomatoes. Most things have been put in place for the tomatoes after going through a lot of threads and other peoples experience on tomatoes farming (especially Jethro). I have prepared the land, water is close by, I have made beds for the tomatoes and they have germinated and waiting transplant in 2-3 weeks.

A part of me says, if I leave my paid employment, things might not work out and its better that I continue to received the 59k (fear of the unknown). Another part of me says, to leave the job and channel all efforts towards the tomatoes farming that things would get better gradually. I have already made adequate plans for my family feeding for the next 12months, but I am still scared of quieting the job.

My ultimate question is this:Is tomatoes farming on an hectare of land sustainable?. I know it wont be that easy and it would require hard word. But can it sustain me better than a paid job. Should I quit and face farming?

Looking forward to advice mostly from tomatoes farmers and others as well.
Thank you

Truth is bitter bro,
I left the farm few years ago for paid employment. I don't regret the decision now, although it was difficult. For farming to work you need knowledge plus lots of money and money and money. I would be going back to the farm soon on a part time arrangement very soon.
It might be laughable if you are a first time farmer and trying to do 1 hectare of tomatoes at once.
Bro, Tomato is very delicate ohhhhh. You should be ready for the unexpected. Have a back up plan for feeding your family for 2 yrs.
Advice on the farm
1. Ensure you plant improved seed variety.
2. Having water near by is good, but how do you supply the water to the plant.
3. Think deeply about your irrigation. (i suggest you purchase drip tapes, forget the noise about rain guns ohhhhh)
4. Eagle eye always (ensure you observe any change quickly and seek advice)
5. What is your weeding plan (that labour cost can kill you, mulching films could be a good investment)

However, I would advise that you keep your job and do a pilot farm of one plot. The outcome of that farm would answer all your questions. It would take just 3 months for you to know your fate.

You really do not have to design a sales software.
Why not adopt already existing software and tailor it into what you want.
Retail man, quick books, ICG Etc. all have guys here in Nigeria that could do the set up for you.

Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by endy231: 8:38pm On Jun 11, 2017
Have got a solution, after lots of trial. serviced all the calipers, changed master break, change breakpad etc after all the problem continued. A mechanic i was referred to , simple adjusted a string or something under the steering compartment. he said it was too tight. i was so surprised that i never experienced the problem after that adjustment.

Sorry, OP, make I laff small first.

How did you measure the differential temperature of the tyres?
Remember when driving, tyres are normally expected to heat up.

But seriously, I think you should consider fuel system or electrical issues.

How does your car behave at idle?
While experiencing this retarded acceleration, has your engine ever shut off on its own OR jerked?

Misfires should be ruled out.

You need to SCAN THE CAR to find out.

Cheers!

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Help Me Choose Between These Two Job Offers by endy231: 5:26pm On Mar 31, 2017
There is nothing to be confused about. The two options differs greatly. I would recommend that you take the teaching job, then look out for a problem that would enable you get value as you proffer solution around you PPA area. That should serve as your second stream of income. (it could be a chain of private lessons, personal business etc). You can also consider enrolling for a certificate programme or degree to sharpen your skills.
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by endy231: 5:26pm On Mar 21, 2017
I seriously need help with my Honda CRV 04. When i am driving, sometimes i observe that the car is not moving as fast as it should be when i throttle down ( its like something is holding the tyre back) when i stopped to observe the tyres. i noticed that the front right tyre was very very hot compared to the other tyres.
I took to car to a mechanic, i was introduced to and the guy said the master break was bad, i had to change that only to discover that the same issue happened again.
latest discovery is that, each time i notice the dragging and put off the ignition and put it back on, the dragging disappears and the car is free to drive well. This dragging doesnt happen everyday. i have been using the car that way, but scared that one day the ignition off and on trick might fail me.
advice needed please.

Dat may be possible in some schools, but I can categorically say it is 99% impossible in university of ibadan except perhaps you work in the marketing department of the bank.

Kalusam:
Thanks to this thread, I ventured into cucumber farming about 9 months ago. These periods have been filled with failures, success, trial by error learning from experience across several states and in different seasons. I must say a big thank you to jasper7 for his 'opening my eyes' to the opportunities in the Cucumber Value Chain, but the greatest thanks goes to Jehovah for his mercies and guidance.

In this light, I am inviting any who has 4 Saturdays to spare in October, 2015 to a life changing Agribusiness Master class styled training in Cucumber Farming Setup and Management. Participants will be given treated seeds and will be guided on how to turn those seeds into quality fruits that will command good market price within their communities.

Venue: Epe, Lagos

Dates: 3rd, 10th, 24th and 31st October, 2015.

Time: 9am - 12pm and 1pm to 4pm

Registration and Training Fee: NGN25,000

Its over 3 months now (you started nursery may 12), I assume you have started harvesting your tomatoes. Kindly upload pix and tell us the name of the variety you planted. Maybe we could learn something from your farm.

you may need to treat your soil before planting. kindly google about mildew, some of your leaves look like bacteria wilt while others look like fungi infection(mildew).
