Greetings everyone. I have a question to ask. Formerly when VO ask of transcript ,if you show him/her is a red flag. I wish to know if it is still like that. Normally we are not meant to hold our transcript.
....You can present the student copy of your transcript.

Hello house...
Please i was told that my picture doesn't meet the quality requirements... But i was given the option to continue without a photo but come with a better photograph for my appointment.
Please now I'm about reviewing and signing my foam... Hope i won't have any problem at the embassy....
Gurus please i need replies as soon as possible.
Thanks.

Better to retake a passport that meets the requirements, and attach the digital copy, not a scanned copy. You risk being turned back at the embassy if you proceed without a passport, except if the rules have changed recently.

Please treat as urgent.

Your answers would help in telling if I've just wasted 64k.

Pls can I use an old DS-160 for a new application ?

No, fill a new DS-160 and have it updated to your visa appointment, the 64k is not wasted yet.

UPDATE:

After waiting endlessly for weeks, my US dream almost withered. At last, admit decisions finally roll in. This is my update.

Confirmed List:

Stevens Institute of Technology(Ms)( accepted plus $15k fellowship award)

Auburn University(Ms)(accepted, scheduled a Skype interview with a prof later in the week)

Cleveland State University(Ms) (accepted)

Stanford University(Ms) (accepted, I actually applied cuz of the Knight Hennessey scholarship but I wasn't awarded).

Pending list,

UT Austin(Ms)
UC boulder (Ms
TAMU,College station (PhD).

Please guys, I need you advice on the Skype interview and how I can go about securing full funding. Your advise will be highly appreciated. #teamfall2018

Congratulations on the Admits.
For the skype interview....it may help to look through the web page of the Prof. Identify his ongoing projects that align with your interests, research those projects and identify how you can contribute to their realization. Cite recent research effort in the projects, identify gap(s), propose solution routes you may explore if given the opportunity. Concentrate on funded projects on his/her page. All the best.

Education / Re: Tell Us How You Got A Fully Funded Scholarship With A Less Than 4.0 GPA by Mitchely: 10:56pm On Jan 28, 2018
Aside pursuing fully funded scholarship, try out writing GRE and contacting faculty in the US that are looking out for students to offer research assistantship positions. The assistantship may cover your full tuition or a significant portion with monthly stipend for living expenses.

Hello all, Please would a fully funded graduate student (tuition+living expenses) all stated in the i 20 and award letter from the institution still require to take along or show any other financial evidence/personal funds/bank statements at the visa interview.
Thanks
Take them along, but don't fret if you can't get them. You will most likely be asked to show award letter from the institution (that was my case). Also go with your academic transcript and standardized test scores. All the best.

Please!!!!! please!!! please!!, I need urgent answer to this kindly help a brother asap

A friend is going for her Visa interview in two days time. She applied for MS in project management @Morgan state University. on her i20 the course is 5years she called the graduate coordinator and the graduate coordinator said it wasn't a mistake that it's 5years.

My question: kindly help with what she'll say when the VO ask "why 5years?"

Or does it means she can complete the MS degree within 2years but can decide to extend it btw 2 -5years?

5 years for an MS, not a PhD? I will advise sending a mail to the graduate coordinator asking why? The graduate coordinator might have thought it was a Phd during the call. His reply to your mail and maybe an additional explanation from the graduate school website may help during the visa interview. Imagine the VO looking online at the school website and seeing MS duration of 2 years. All the best.

Hi Mitchely. Your family is welcome to reapply, however, they should be prepared to offer new evidence in support of their application. Certainly it has an effect that you once said they would stay behind, and then you suddenly reconsider once your own F1 visa is approved. Once your whole immediate family is in the US, it can be hard to demonstrate there are sufficient ties to bring you home. The added difficulty with dependent visas like F2s is that the total costs of living overseas increase substantially while the earning power of the family unit decreases. A bond signed with an employer is difficult to enforce from across an ocean.
Thank you for your response. The reconsideration to apply and have them join me was after 4 months during which I secured an additional scholarship that helped assuage my initial financial fears that led to my initial response of them not coming along.

Good day VOs, please your kind advice will be appreciated. My wife and daughter were recently denied F2 visas with the rejection letter stating no strong home ties. From the interview, I also think my response that they were not coming with me during my own interview played a role in the rejection. Please what are suitable home ties for F2 applicants? I am actually on paid study leave from my workplace (a Federal University) in Nigeria, and signed a bond to return at the end of my study, will this be a sufficient home tie? Also how does one rectify the discrepancy in responses during both interviews majorly due to a significant change in situations? And what is the impact of time of reapplication on the outcome after such rejection as we are reapplying? Thank you.

Apparently, the graduate school contact person I have been emailing said the sponsor wouldn't have to pay, but they just want to see that such person (sponsor) can afford it, and it is also for the i20.
The sponsor wouldn't have to pay now, but you will have to pay when the time comes. Better to seat for GRE, apply to schools with some form of assistantship as some have advised.

A typical American wouldn’t help or listen to your excuses if you don’t meet up to time. The best they can do is to console you and you’ll be left to deal with your problems. Out here, Time isn’t something to be joked around with. You really think Americans are emotional? cheesy

Is that so? Good to know. Maybe those I have interacted with are the exceptions then. Better at least that they let you deal with your problems, than mock you.

Lol you're a joke. You have a visa interview, that you've been aware of for weeks. An interview that cost you in terms of an application fee, fees for standardized exams and air tickets. This interview is literally the crux on which your future hangs... and you were late for it... and we are the ones with the problem for not understanding why you were late? cheesy grin It seems to me that some people simply make comments, just for the sake of it. Don't worry, when he gets to the US, he should expect his professor to understand why he was late to his exam, although i worry that their "high learning" might not qualify them to understand.

I thought Americans were picky about being on time, then i went for a meeting in Germany... Nigerians were still sleeping.

Funny that I never mentioned you, but you are still quick to come jump to conclusions. I did not justify his lateness, but will also not mock him without knowing why and also pointing him in the right direction. The guy could have had an accident on his way, or even been sick or any other circumstance beyond his control (and yes, these occur much more frequently in a 'zoo' than in the perfect life you are so used to now). Professors in the US (I can show you emails) will investigate why (and make provisions for him for a genuine reason) and never mock him the way you do. It is funny how you have stayed in a Society where people are generally very friendly and willing to help, but it appears not to have rubbed off on you. I surely do hope it is only when you interact with the 'animals and fraudsters' in your so-called 'zoo' that you exhibit such.

Go through the thread and pick the valuable comment by some, and ignore the mockery by those whose high learning qualifies them to do such without knowing the reason why you were late. All the best.

I really empathize with what you are going through because I am in a similar situation, although my wife is not applying anytime soon and I was not asked about my family during my interview. You have probably painted a mental image of how you will meet them at the airport.

I agree with Lagosismyhome that you should give it some time before they reapply. You should wait until maybe Fall, 2018. When they do finally reapply, your wife should make a passionate case of how it has been extremely difficult living apart. That you are making good progress in your PhD but the separation of the family is taking a mental toll on you. Also, you don't want your daughter to grow up in the absence of his father and how you are missing out on watching your daughter grow too. How she is always asking about Daddy (which am sure she does if she is old enough).

So you have to be patient for a little while because I don't think B1 visa is a good option. All the best.

Yes, I had planned every detail of their arrival and stay. Thank you, I appreciate your advice.

I don't mean to be mean o, I'm just saying that if only you had known you'd have told them before that they were coming, but that would have hurt you o, like might have affected your chance of getting a visa, because that's your strong tie.
My advice, leave them first, after a year let them visit you during summer, so they'd come in a vacation instead. So you are safe that way I guess
Thank you, I appreciate your advice, and accept I could have handled my interview much better.

You need to thread careful so you dont cause a trail of denial because i seen cases where the embassy will eat eba on the person passport and be dishing out the rejection

If you had said no initally however the question was framed...then it best to go a semester or even a year and they go to the embassy . But if u insist on doing it now now ,going again after a rejection then that a risk i guess u are willing to take.

Ok, Thank you. It is actually a semester after my initial no.

The VOs aren’t as stupid as you think. You most likely claimed your family wasn’t coming with you so you could use them as home ties and improve your visa chances. Now you want to sneak them in through the backdoor.

Second, in another post, you claimed the VOs should understand as they make changes as things happen daily. Well true. But a decision to move an entire family to the US on an F2 visa is not a decision you make over a bowl of eba. You must have thought this through for weeks and months... since your wife would have to quit her job, a decision no one takes lightly.

Don’t be devastated dear, you’re the architect of your own pain. The VOs are free to change their minds as they wish, the US is their home country. You are also free to change plans as you wish, in Nigeria. Stay home and enjoy the fruits of your own dishonesty. God isn’t mocked.
Phew... embarassed no iota of the flu left oo. In the midst of all the lashing, I am still searching for an advice. The decision to move an entire family can actually be made over an eba when you land a scholarship that covers the pay of spouse a hundred folds. Stay home? Sneak? God isn't mocked? I don't think you get my story clearly. Thanks anyway.

So you still want to go ahead to reschedule another interview after getting the reason they were denied at first? Well, this is one of the things TWoods keeps scolding people on, but because of the fact that we fail to adhere to our reality, you get to see people of like minds attacking the dude for giving the bitter truth! I can only wish you all the best bro, but believe me the VO has recorded every details so regardless how many times you reapply, the next VO would see the details on their system!

Yes I will, hoping a good explanation of the change of plans will clear all doubt. I believe the VO's themselves make plans daily and revise them as circumstances change. Twoods please come lash me and advise me way forward, hope the flu smiley is back a bit sha.
And how does one adhere to the reality of his heart and soul being elsewhere, and he has the means to have them all in one place?

Just have them apply for visiting visa after you get settled in the US. The F2 is already cast according to the reason you have earlier
Thank you for your advice, very helpful as I am even in the process of reapplying for them. How do we manage visit visas for a 4-5 years PhD program. Are plans not allowed to change over a 4-5 years duration. Moreover, the question are they coming with you appeared to mean are they coming with you at the moment? Maybe I should have answered, No but they will join me later.
