NYC temp accused of stealing identities

Published: Oct. 29, 2009 at 12:20 PM

NEW YORK, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- A former temporary employee at a New York City bank stole the identities of 150 of his fellow employees during his brief employment, prosecutors say.

Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau alleges Adeniyi Adeyemi, 27, used a three-month employment period at Bank of New York Mellon in 2001 to use his co-workers' identities in a $1.1 million theft from various charities, the New York Post said Thursday.

Morgenthau said Adeyemi, who was 19 at the time, used his computer skills and co-workers' identities to create fake bank and brokerage accounts. Officials allege the Nigerian national then electronically transferred funds into those accounts from the accounts of charities.

The Post said Adeyemi pleaded innocent Wednesday to charges of grand larceny, identity theft, money laundering and computer tampering.

Very soon, financial institutions in the West will stop employing anybody who has Nigerian blood. It seems to be the only way to control this thing. I can understand someone in Nigeria who is doing 419 because he needs some job and food on the table but these ones abroad who already have a good job but go around  spoiling our name is unforgivable. I think our government should make a law similar to the ones they made during the cocaine era of the 90's so that if these criminals finish serving their sentences abroad, they will serve another one in Nigeria whenever they get deported.

Its so easy to get someones information. If you're dealing with a dumbass, all you have to do is get a keylogger, crypt it (to offset virus programs), and then send them an innocent looking file through email.

Its not as if you have any money for them to steal. You are right anyway because I am slowly getting scared of Nigerians and their 419. There are viruses that can download financial information from your computer and its better to stay away from links and attachments on Nairaland. The disease is spreading fast and we shall soon start fearing one another.

I am happy though they (fill the blank space) are been caught in quantum. Soon their population will be 50% in prison and the rest good Nigerians will have some breathing space.

Ewu! Again we are talking about numbers and consistency. Yorubas never disappoint in these things and we will continue to hammer them until they turn a new leaf.

As for you, stop being a sabo (or a pretender at best) or else,

Will you like a white man to call you a thief because many Nigerians are involved in 419?. If not, why should you call Yorubas the same because few of them were caught in the act?

Don't mind him.No paddy for jungle here. If you know any Nigerian who is into that thing, report them asap. That will make potential ones become afraid because they don't know who to trust anymore. Harboring them will do nobody any good including the criminals themselves, the sooner they start their jail terms, the better for them.
