Personally i am not against subsidy, but the timing is not right. Have you tried to ask yourself some questions like

1. Does the government know these cabals that eat the subsidy money?
2. Why can't the govt go after these cabals?
3. Knowing well that some Petroleum products are smuggled out of the country after the subsidy, are there checks and balances to avert these acts?
4. Has any one (high or low) been brought to book for diverting petroleum products?
5. Some PMS are produced from our refinery. Are these subsidized too?
6. Is the cost of production of PMS in the country the same are that imported?
7. If the price of PMS produced in the country is cheaper (which i believe), why are we buying all PMS at the same cost?
9. Are there no other means of getting funds for the country (popular opinion is to cut the total emolument of politicians) other than subsidy in other to safeguard the economy of this country?
10. Have other funds raising methods been carried out first?
11. many more questions like what has been done to fix NEPA, railroad transport etc before removing subsidy.

If these questions cannot be answered convincingly, then i think subsidy removal should wait till things are fixed first else it will not be beneficial to Nigeria/Nigerians at this moment.

Re: National Assembly Summons Emergency Meeting Live by PastorKun(m): 2:59pm On Jan 08, 2012
The insignificant and insincere 'cuts' in expenditure as announced by GEJ yesterday does not even begin to scratch the surface of the problem yet some people are applauding for 'taking a step in the right direction'. Any step short of withdrawing the 2012 appropriation bill currently before the NASS and replacing it with one in which recurrent expenditures has been slashed to not more than 30% of budget as opposed to the current 70% and capital expenditure increased in the same proportion while also capturing the savings to be made from subsidy removal as an addition to the capital vote, would be totally unacceptable to Nigerians. This should not be a fight to retain an abusive and cancerous subsidy but rather a fight for good governance, prudent management of resources and accountability from our leaders so that we can all be collectively better off as a nation.
