Politics / Re: Can We Put An End To Ethnic Rivalries And Hostilities? by Obiora4life: 9:29pm On Aug 04, 2013
Isn't it funny how Mr OAM4J is here preaching about ending tribalism, yet I responded in kind after being provoked, yet he handed down a 1 month ban meanwhile people who are involved in the same are still posting with their original ID's. You preach about tribalism YET you do the opposite, who's deceiving who? Talk about being double sided aka TWO-FACED. This is why we fear you, you want to end tribalism... Please find another job. If you like, extend it till thy Jesus come, people take NL way too seriously...
Foreign Affairs / Re: Gay Couples Will Be Obliged To Have Baby Or Face Jail-mugabe by Obiora4life: 6:19pm On Jul 09, 2013
When did having kids become priority? If you want to deal with Gay issues, deal with the CORE issues and not having baby. Children hunger and even hunger is general is becoming a global concern, Africa is overpopulated now and Zimbabwe for all I know is already populated, they should be discussing of depopulation - Asia is doing it, Europe has always been doing it, America is encouraging it now, Africa is the only one frowning on it.

Sorry....only repeating the new anthem posed by some Igbos and Nigerians alike in this forum .

Let me guess, you're part of the Igbos that spearheaded this nonsense, aren't you? Otherwise you won't repeat the nonsense that's going around I've been on NL for way too long and I've not come across such hateful utterances. Whether you remove Anambra or not, Anambra cannot do without the other states just like other SE states and even Nigeria cannot do with Anambra. The sooner you as well as other Igbos begin to get that, the better it is for you.

I hope this is a joke and if it is, you seriously need to stop...

djon78:

true talk bro, the main issue is that many of these folks ranting here know nothing about International law. Imo river if dredged can contain ocean lineer vessels, like wise the Niger. So I dont understand the ranting of some of these folks about Igboland being landlocked, anyway they never seen anything yet, let Geometric company finish with there work in Aba and its environs, then we will unleash that undying Igbo spirit of ingenuity and take the world by storm.

You guys amaze me, how do you explain the Suez Canal in Egypt that is "MAN MADE"? How do you reconcile the Panama Canal via the Caribbean to the Atlantic Ocean? Many of the worlds shipping lanes where container vessels transverse are "MAN MADE", how do you reconcile that fact? The Suez was man made and stretches more than 100 miles long (almost the half distance from DC to NY) OR better yet, traveling at 50mph, it will take you two hrs to complete the trip, YET it has a width a lil over 1/10th of a mile (abt 650ft) in width.

An average SUV car measures about 16ft in length, so about 40 SUV's or about 16 40ft containers... What it means is that it can contain about two large container vessels side-by-side. When the Suez was built, it had a depth of 26ft, today it has a depth of 2.5x the depth, all MAN MADE, so I don't get your argument. Read more about the Suez (ONE WAY TRAFFIC), yet generates about $6billion annually.

According to the OP, his suggestion is simply creating deep waterway channels that will connect to the Atlantic Ocean, how is that a problem for you or better yet, how is that hard to understand? Yes, it will be costly, perhaps several hundreds of millions of $$$, or even maybe billions, but in economic benefit, it will pay off.

An average container ship pays about $250k to use the Suez, assuming that both SE/SS countries have the same agreement and charge quarter of same amount, multiply that by an average of one ship per day/7per week x 52 weeks, that is revenues up to $25million annually. This is only for international container traffic, you've not talked about other international traffic - oil and gas, dry bulk, chemical, etc. Then add local and domestic traffic, both countries will benefit from it immensely, so please drop your negativity.

What did I say to you? You and I have been arguing and I stated on my last comment, if the FG adopted Igbo, calling us Ibo instead of IGBO, all bets are off... I said I do not have the time to exchange thrash, SO PLEASE, WHO AND WHERE DID I INSULT SOMEONE AS IBO?

So why does Achebe still write Ibo

That's your problem and with due respect to him, I cannot speak on behalf of Prof Achebe. However, like I stated, if people find a word offensive, then STOP IT. Achebe is not on NL, if collectively Igbos on NL find it offensive, then QUIT IT. Same Achebe yall called names, called him a traitor, racist and what have you is someone whom you hold to standards now to justify your actions? My friend, JUST QUIT IT.

Lol, you and your Forbes List..lol

That Igbos decide not to count their wealth just yet doesn't mean none exist, at the right time, when free market evolves, without intervention of govt to oppress the other and favor the other, you will finally see one on there...

I thought I read in a thread of cuture and Igbo Speaking where Igbos changed it from Ibo to Igbo?

Because people are ignorant, World-Wide accepted doesn't make it right. There are countries that changed their names, it's offensive to call their old name in respect to the new one. The general accepted standard the real Igbos have adopted is IGBO and not Ibo, let the Igbo decide what's offensive and not what a literature book written decide for 40million people.

mumu!

Yorubas are sitting on oil wells and are quiet,. 1 yoruba's oil well fetch billions in "dollars" each day but nobody knows.

150 ibos sitting on spare parts (substandard by the way) and bring in combined 100billion. "naira". each day and they no allow the whole continent to sleep.

there are two classes of Nigerians: Yoruba and others. The others are ranked in this order

1 hausa
2. ijaw
3. ibo.

Lol, your bigotry has so blinded your eyes that you could barely see... I challenge you to produce your number of barrels PD X the current export conversion rate. Even at 1 million bpd x $120pb, that's $120million. That is ALL YORUBAS who produce all combined their total output, still not up to 1million bpd. So please, throw out your own figures.

In addition, use a standard base exchange rate of N160 to $1, divide N100 billion, that $625million daily. You will have to scale to down by 5x to rank your $120 output, i.e., given the assumption that ALL yoruba wells pump out 1million bpd. As you can see, they have the 5x shouting ratio compared to you. Next time before you post, please think.

koruji: I think you are wrong, they are not int he same league.
Eko-Ile, Gbawe and others promote actual projects backed with evidence.
Sincere9gerian, PapaBrowne and their cohorts simply want to protect the personality of GEJ - "the end justifies the means" is their moto.
You will be hard pressed to find the former boldfacedly lie about projects or try to con readers as to what is going on.
In contrast, the deceitful posts of the latter are easily found all over NL.

Yes... Let me guess, who are you again? An APC supporter, so I do expect you to back PDP supporters.
Politics / Re: Ladipo Market: Fashola Raises Committee On Conflict Resolution by Obiora4life: 2:35pm On Mar 09, 2013
kettykings: A belated and weak attempt at reversing the damage done as a result of the weak economic team of Lagos state Government.
This committee should have come long before closing the market, as it is the damage has been done it will take months before Fashola will realize the damage he has inflicted on the Lagos Economy . Anybody who has followed the movie/Textile distribution industry will realize that not much happens any more in Idumota and tejuosho anymore because of what i term economic Xenophobia of yorubas.

If this young men were smart enough to build a business with a turn over of more than N100B a day from the 20 pounds that was given to them after the war , then they are definitely smarter to reroute their business to much friendlier locations if Lagos becomes unfavorable .
It will be pertinent to note that one of the reasons Port Harcourt has remained the way it is today is the Economic Xenophobia Exhibited by the Riverine Indigenes who came out to claim the property of Igbo Business men who lost the war . Today Port Harcourt despite its strategic location and importance has not lived up to billing.

Possibly in the Next few months we would be witnessing the Rise of Auto parts Business in locations friendlier to these business men

The question is, will they learn?

I've always maintained that Lagos is gradually becoming unfriendly for business, it's not because of the laws but how the laws are handed down is just ridiculous. If these guys are making N100 billion, why won't they move to their home or regional locations, build their business complex there, setup a union to deal with issues that arose in Ladipo? I swear, they need orientation.
