Same thing I was told when I did it in 2012... There was no placement kan kan...

Did it open your eyes to other things, apart from the placement, did it add any value to you or increased your chances of getting a job.

Is there any benefit or relevance at all.or just a waste of time

Honestly. Most companies always get those integrator to do the setups and just need someone to stare at the device all day

true. I'm already prepared to write my Azure developer exam. I'm just waiting for my voucher.

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is worth it. It may not get you your dream job but it sets you up for success. Get your CCNA, then go for AWS Certified Cloud Practicioner (that's if you're a newbie) if not skip AWS CCP and go straight to AWS Certified Solutions Architect

In my 30s, is it not too late to think of starting a career in networking. As age is always a barrier in getting a job

Hello guys.

Please u need an enlightenment.

I was going through my Facebook page.

And I saw an advert for Cisco training, certification and placement. Fee: 67,000.

Please I don't know how effective is this in getting a job. Any possibility of me coping since I don't have any background in computer or networking.

Please advice

If you intend to learn CISCO you must first start from the basic and learn

A+ Part 1 and Part 2 Udemy does very good online training course for £12 pounds or N600

CompTIA A+ Certification ( Part 2 of 2)
CompTIA A+ Certification ( Part 1 of 2)
https://www.udemy.com/topic/comptia-a/

After completing A+ you can proceed to Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) - CCNA and CCNP
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisco_certifications#Cisco_Certified_Technicians_(CCT))

I will suggest that you buy second PCs and build your own home network labs using old PCs.

Go for it man. No knowledge is wasted. I have a degree in Electronics and postgraduate certificate in Cybersecurity and because of the knowledge I gained from different Cisco Certified courses it made almost all ICT courses easier for me. Today I have over 15 certificates in different ICT courses within and without-Cisco, CompTIA, and other international exams inclusive and still learning more. Today through Cybersecurity I can Pentest, hack ethically and at the same time a "cloud engineer". Please go for any course that will widen your knowledge

Thanks boss, one more advice.

Am in my 30s, is it not too late to start a career in networking. By the time am through with all this programs, will age not be a barrier in getting a job with it

Bros, age does not matter...it all depends on your desire, drive, and determination. My advice is, sit down and ask yourself....."Are mine looking for quick money to feed or am looking for a career?"

If you are looking for quick money, a career in networking is not for you. In networking just like in any IT profession, you have 'to do the time' before you reap the reward. You must also love networking and IT, because the road is going to be very challenging and after a while as you progress, it is going to be very lonely as well, but your love for it will be your only stay.

If your focus is a career in networking, CCNA, Network+ are courses that will help give you the needed foundation. Sometimes, I tell people that, CCNA is more difficult than CCIE, they laugh and say you must be joking....I have many certifications, including CCIE, Azure and AWS, etc...

The reason I stated that CCNA is more difficult is because, at that level you are very green and are being introduced to a whole new concept, new terminologies, etc...but at CCIE level you have some foundation beneath you already. I rememeber during my CCNA days, I struggled to distinguish the difference between 'a broadcast domain and a collision domain'...don't get me wrong, I know the definitions, but when I paused and ask myself, what is the difference....I use to draw a blank.

You can start Azure, AWS, etc...but you should know that Azure and AWS are overly platforms.....these providers gave you a platform upon which to build 'something'...but you must know that 'something' before you can build on these platforms. e.g. if you are a Network Administrator, you already know Windows, Unix, Networking, TCP/IP, Window servers, Switches, etc... you can connect them one to the other, log into them and configure one or two things.....and you can also 'touch, feel and smell them'. When you learn Azure of AWS platform, you will still need your previous knowledge of Windows, Unix, Networking, etc to build these networks....the truth is, the only difference is you will not be able to touch, feel and smell them again.

Also, if you are a Cisco Network Engineer; when you go into Azure, you will still setup Routers, Switches, Load balancers, Firewalls, Routing, Security Devices, Switching, IPv4, IPv6, etc....without these 'something' all your Azure knowledge are nothing....Same goes for Developers and programmers (full stack or otherwise). All your networking skill to build an internetwork will be tasked on Azure and AWS...as a Developer all those things you learn about the development life cycle will be tasked including your ability to write codes with Azure pipelines, Azure Life cycle management, etc.

I am very positive that, all the people asking you to learn Cloud have one or two other underlying skillsets they are leveraging on Azure or AWS, also I will wonder when they do, once they launch an Azure portal or connect to it via PowerShell?

By the chance you choose to take this career path; I will bet you that you will not be making a mistake....pursue knowledge first, then money will follow. But, you have the drive and hunger to soldier on.....Some people have some side consulting thing to do while they build a career...building a career takes time, but it lasts longer even a lifetime......or some just go into entrepreneurship and dive into business, you have to choose what is best for you.

A lot of people are missing the point here. If you have no background in Computer or Networking, I would advise you start from( basics so you can have a solid foundation) CompTIA IT Fundamentals, A+, N+, S+ and progress to CCNA.
Are you doing CCNA because they promise Job Opportunity? If that is the case here, the answer is NO. You have to find a job yourself. Promising you Job placement after Certification is a lie.
You can skip the above and start from any other field of IT if you have basic knowledge and understanding about Computing. IT is broad, you need to know exactly which aspect what you want to do. If you have the time and money to play with start from scratch, no knowledge is lost.
Presently, Cybersecurity, Cloud computing, AWS, Azure Fundamentals and Infrastructure are hot Cake right now but you have to start from somewhere. Rome wasn't built in a day
Are there really Cybersecurity jobs or it’s just a hoax

My brother you're perfectly ok. Don't let those Nigerian job descriptions discourage you. In this field your age or even academic qualification does not matter much but your KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS.

No organization will take a 20+ crappy network engineer over a highly skilled 30+ network engineer!

Certified Cisco Network Associate "training" costs 230k @NIIT, exclusive of the certification exam which is done online and costs over $160.

Networking has more job opportunities than programming & software development in Nigeria.

If you need a career in ICT, you must be willing to diversify into as many fields in computing as possible.

Good Morning bro. You can try Aptech. A couple of friends did theirs there some years ago but only two completed the program. Believe me when i say its not a walk in the park. You really have to be determined to get it done. Courses are usually 18months long and are a bit expensive. If your parents have money or you have money, you can do it abroad as a masterss degree and if you are able to complete and you understand it properly, you'll get a job there.

Goodluck bro!

How will ccna and ccnp bring food to your table.these things dont work in d zoo only in sane countries.who wan give u work go give u work
Get ur bsc maybe MSC.. keep it first. Enter market go learn work or trade.when its ur time someone that knows someone will call u to come and work.no aptitude test no interview all those ones na paparazzi. Them don pik who them want

This thing might look vague but honestly this is the real truth of the situation in this country. Someone who knows someone that knows someone that matters, that's it. Be it CBN or NNPC work, or presidency or common local government job or even the multinationals to an extent. Just be doing your own part and be hoping that one day, your call shall be picked

Also, Cloud certifications like AWS, Azure, etc are good...but these are all overly networks, you are much more valuable if you also understand the underly networks and the Openstack network orchestration that feeds these overly networks and also to which these overly networks interconnect to in cases of hybrid clouds.

The OP need basic networking, routing, switching, security knowledge before he can be successful as a Cloud Engineer...After Azure Fundamentals certifications, these basic networking principles will help him, when he start going for higher Azure or AWS certification...moreso he will be using Azure, AWS, etc cloud Architectures to build the same underly networks that Cisco and other vendors will teach him......Also there are now many vendors e.g. Cisco software defined cloud devices that he may have to instantiate on Azure or AWS cloud, and without previous knowledge of working with these vendor devices, all his Azure or AWS knowledge and trainings wouldn't help.

There is a difference between trying to build a career and looking for a quick training that will quickly start providing bread and butter....if the OP is looking for a career like he stated and for many others who want to build a career in the cloud....If you want to be a Cloud Engineer, do not forsake basic networking from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, etc and if you want to be a Cloud Developer, your knowledge of Software development, coding, python, shell scripting, etc will give you an edge on whatever career path you may want to choose in the cloud.

@ Smhaykins. You've got to take this post seriously. Grab your A+ and CCNA. You should be good to go.
