Also, people default to running ACs at 16. I'm sure a lot here do this as well. The AC has a thermostat for a reason. My AC hardly goes below 25 and its comfortably cold. I'm saving about half the amount of energy in this case compared to running at 16

The strange thing also is the fact that those who run ACs at 16°C enter into cycles of too cold too hot. From too cold, they switch off till it's too warm and repeat the cycle again starting and killing the compressor several times. I guess it's all part of the general impatience around us

Good morning guys. Please there is this installer that does a very aesthetically appealing job here. Puts labels and stickers, hides cables well.

He posted a pix many moons back but I can't find it.

I'ld appreciate any assistance to see that post or the monicker.

Why would people want to run their ACs at 16degC? N lack of knowledge i believe say dey cause that thing. In the hottest of days your AC in the tropics should not go below 24degC for any reason.

Good morning great people.
Please I have a pressing issue and it seems I'm either ignorant or my batteries have issues.
I use a hybrid THUNDERVOLT Inverter, 3.5KVA, 48V with 70A MPPT Charger inbuilt.
My PV arrays are 260W x9.
I use 4 multipower tubular batteries.
From the first time after installation, the batteries were left to charge for 4 days without any load on the inverter and they got at about 57 to 58V. And most times the MPPT is on float about this charge.
but as soon as the charging sources are switched off, the battery indicators drop 2 bars out of 5 to show inky 3 bars of battery reserve left without any load. Battery Voltage then drops to 48 to 48.8V with each battery reading 12.2V.
After going back and forth and taking the batteries back to the dealer to be charged etc.., the engineer of the company told me that that is the way tubular batteries behave.

NB it is difficult to assess the backup reserve of the batteries, I'm quite engaged these days. However there is minimal load on the inverter, it's just for lighting and TV only for now. Testing that for up to 12 hours, the batteries dropped from 3 bars to 2 bars.

Kindly advise, do tubular batteries behave this way?
Are my batteries bad?
Is my inverter failing to display a true state of charge of the batteries?

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by NiyiOmoIyunade(m): 11:30am On Sep 02, 2021
Yes flooded batteries indeed exhibit lower voltage than other lead acid chemistries while at rest and at work.

However at 58v you are not charging your batteries to full. In general flooded batteries need to get to a minimum of about 14.6v per 12v battery i.e 58.4v for the battery pack. Ideally they should absorb at 14.7 to 14.8v per 12v battery which is a range of 58.8v to 59.2v for the battery pack.

Every month or so, you need to equalize the batteries and get them into the 15v per 12v battery range

It will be useful to read your battery data sheet (some info should be on the battery case) and adjust charging parameters accordingly if your inverter is capable.

If at any point in troubleshooting , the dealer swapped out or topped off electrolyte, then you are in a delicate place as they may have used too strong or too weak of a mix - an hydrometer is your best friend to know the SG and SoC of your batteries and inform your next steps.

Thank you very much sir for the prompt and detailed response. I just came off the phone with an engineer for the inverter company. It was a long an educative long and he actually mentioned exactly these facts. He also advised we change the settings of the inverter for higher voltage as per the manual. and batteries parameters. Sincerely, this is the first time I am hearing specific parameters in figures on tubular batteries and I am sincerely grateful to you for this. I will crosscheck with their engr for their specific figures in case they are different.

For the equilisation, the inverter by default does that and it think it was set to do that every 60 days though or anytime the battery terminals are disconnected from the inverter, If I remember well. I will check this again and revert. At the last reset, they batteries got to over 60V but subsequently about 58V. In fact, the day I saw 60V I was scared the inverter was overcharging the batteries till I read the manual again.
The unfortunate thing , for those who know this Multipower battery, no parameters are printed on the body or the carton of the batteries. There is no document in the package that guides aside the fact that they are tubular batteries. I can assure you the batteries were not tampered with, the Indian boss is even ready to swap the batteries but he needs to be sure the batteries are actually bad.

Actions to be taken based on your advise:
1. I'll pick the brain of the Battery company engineer when he comes as per the batteries parameters
2. Set the inverter charging settings appropriately instead of the default for "tubular batteries".

Once again, I do appreciate and do not take for granted your guidance. I know how busy folks are and yet have time to address issues here. God bless boss. I will revert back when the Engr comes.

Quick one guys,

If using lithium batteries, can you retain your non-inverter AC?

Or you have to change it out to inverter ACs

I will rather retain my 1.5hp non inverter AC as the market options for inverter ACs are limited. (only LG/Hisense I think)

If you are not talking about hybrid inverter, then go for SMR. That inverter is crazy rugged. I've not switched off mine for about 5 months now. It works 24/7. Bought it February this year.
