So before 2014 there were no atheists in Nigeria? I thought the main attraction of atheism was supposed to be its reliance on intelligence.

Namnam:

Our atheist community has only existed since 2014 and it went from 1 to 900k in less than a decade

Idolize clerics of our religion.

As a Christian, I always think our goal should be to draw closer to God, not look up to Pastor. Pastor is a man like any other.
Most people Idolize Pastor and it's very bad.

Infact it looks as if the Pastor is being worshipped more than God.

I AM NOT SURPRISED. THE ENTIRE SOUTH OF NIGERIA BELOW RIVERS NIGER AND BENUE HAS BEEN UNSOLICITEDLY AMBUSHED BY BMF-BOKOISWA AND RIFA-RUGA ISLAMISATION FULANISATION AND ANARCHY.

IT'S A CHALLENGE TO THE DOWNFALL OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION IN NIGERIA.

Do you mean that religion being a scam in your word means that God does not exist! How does creations come into being? A fool says in his heart, there's no God.

ghostboy:
The more people realise that religion is a scam the more atheists we'll have in Nigeria

Keep dreaming . The average Nigerian is religious so it's only God that knows where you got this figure from .

Bro following facts they are even more than that. Cus atheist are like 1% of the Nigerian population and 1% of 206 Million will give you around 2 Million. Might be wrong, might be right

Atheist in Nigeria begins with little educated boys that have stuff their belle full with rice.

Notice 99% and one of them have parents who grew up in ruff patch Nigeria believing in God. Once this father who believe in God brought out money from the directions giving to them by this God, to send this children to school, atheist children immerge to insult their own father's by saying that God dont exist.

Don't be like atheists children.

While I don't doubt there are atheists in this country, I would take such online stats with a very large pinch of salt

The methodology is iffy, most Nigerians don't have access to the internet and census questionnaires tend to avoid the religion question.

This your reasoning is iffy too.
Moat atheists are educated. Most educated people are on the internet

Nigeria is never and atheist nation. And the evidence that rural-urban migration and insecurity are not pfoofs that changes the religiousity of a nation.

The atheists of Nigeria are 900 thousand people currently and growing especially as more Nigerians move to the cities and as public security starts cracking down more and more on jihadism and fundamentalist Islam as time passes means Nigeria is gonna become increasingly secular as time passes. Thoughts on this trend?
Believe me they are more atheists than that. There are many closet atheists who are afraid of reactions from family and the society should they come out of the closet. In the north atheism is considered a capital sin and anyone who declare he no longer believes in Allah is killed. In the Christian south declaring atheism is tantamount to declaring for Satan or evil and you are immediately ostracized if not persecuted.

I have met quite a few people who tells me Christianity is all a charade and have felt happiness and peace since they stopped believing.

It is not a surprise, many christians will turn to atheists or Islam by the end of the next 2 decades. It already happening in most of the advance world. The doctrine of Christianity does not tick the boxes when it comes to addressing modern challenges. The reason for growing discontent among several adherents. The church has become a huge business conglomerate rather than the house of God. It is not difficult to see through the deception of the men in cloaks. Today Christianity does not stand for anything. You can be gay, alcoholic, ritualist, rapist, con artist, adulterer and still be a pastor. The day people begin to think straight, they leave Christianity.

Hunger is causing it. When you are hungry and frustrated you become angry at everyone and everything. You curse your parents , you curse your debtors and those who you are owing money too. You curse your lineage and country and finally your curse your creator and suddenly stop believing in anything due to a rumbling empty stomach grin

All these so called atheists in Nigeria are hungry ,broke people who have tried to borrow money from everywhere no one helped them. They prayed countless times for help and none came,They converted from Christianity to Islam and back n forth looking for money to rent a one room to sleep in.

Finally one guy is claims to be an atheist gave them 2k to eat which looks like 1 billion to them and immediately they join and start ranting that do called Christians and Muslims and evil ... All because of 2k shocked

Na you go first throw insult around, na you go also claim to be religious.
If what you wrote is true, how do you justify that countries that have better standard of living have more atheists?

Do you become an atheist because you think religion is a scam, irrational or you're simply lazy to commit yourself to any religious demands?

People are realizing religion is all a lie sold to us and we are still paying dearly for it in Africa, Those that gave us religion have stopped believing in there lies but we in Africa keep dwelling in it. Religion is just a tool to control the human mind. The fear of eternal condemnation is why some people go to church but the real truth is all these were just sold to us to control our minds. In Nigeria on every street you go there is an average of 3 different churches and at least a mosque but yet the country is still the worst place on earth currently, what does that tell you?
Yes I believe in the statistics because I am one of the people who doesn’t believe God exist, because if that dude does exist! Nigeria will not be this messed up.

The average Nigerian becomes religious for selfish reasons and not because of love of God or humanity. They are given fantastic and attractive promises by scam artists in the guise of pastors.

I stopped going to church years back, but I am not an atheist. I believe in God. I listen and dance to gospel songs. I just don't go to church. This is what most people do now, and it is not being atheist.

Not just other countries, even in Nigeria atheists and the religious moderates have a better standard of living than the religious fundamentalist. The poorest people are the most religious.

actually it happens more the other way around. it's when you're suffering that you would believe in "god" more to "make sense" of it and hope to make heaven where there would be no more hunger pain, diseases etc. This can actually be buttressed by the fact that religion gets taken seriously by the majority in poverty stricken countries like ours while it's usually an afterthought in booming economies

All these so called atheists in Nigeria are hungry ,broke people who have tried to borrow money from everywhere no one helped them. They prayed countless times for help and none came,They converted from Christianity to Islam and back n forth looking for money to rent a one room to sleep in.
I'm an atheist and I can boldly say I don't owe any individual a dime. I do owe bank some loans but everyone who owes me money and has refused to pay or can't pay are all religious

The problem of Christianity is not gayism alcoholism, ritualist, rapist, con artists, adultery, believe me Islam has as much if not more gays, alcoholics, ritualists, rapists, con artists, adulterers ( they hide it better). The problem is that Christianity has lost any form of spiritualism and are now only concerned with materialism, which is very destructive to society in the long run
