His statement where backed with is right action, he explained the role he played and why he played them and so this is how leadership should roll, cutting across all spheres in the world. Not until all investigation are duely Carried out he should step aside first. This is a well structured environment .. |

The poor, jealous, useless, envious cowardly & dirty nairaland afonjas needed this explanation not us the true negros. We already know they they were looking for an opportunity to truncate your office not only because you are african/black but because u were fighting for the rights of minorities against police oppression. However the outcome may be we already know you are/will-be successful. Only envious, foolish illiterate and uniformed nairaland afonjas do not know that private sector law pays x3 what public sector would have paid. |

Ghozky:Salient in this matter is racial profiling and racism. He was pulled over because he is black. That is what black people have to deal with in these so called developed countries because of steady light and good roads ooo! |

Moferere:His explanation is unconvincing One expects to hear the truth and the WHOLE TRUTH He says "I identified myself and drove away" Is that how it ended? Was he fined? Did he pay? Why? I do not find his statement to be open and candid. It seems evasive to me Why is his boss asking him to step aside? It is important to understand the culture and context There is no need for contrary claim. The fact is that he phoned the Chief of Police over a PERSONAL problem Why is this happening Unlike in Nigeria it is seriously frowned on to use your POSITION to solve a PERSONAL problem His access to the Chief of police's phone number is not available to ordinary citizens and it is not available for PERSONAL problems The question of racial profiling s cynical and cheap. What would other black people in a similar situation who do not have the Chief of Police's number do? he has that number as a PRIVILEGE OF HIS OFFICE . Not everyone has it. It is seen as abuse to use it for your personal benefit He says he phoned to ask what sounds like a ridiculous question. What answer was he expecting? The only rational explanation is it was a way of putting pressure indirectly on the officer that stopped him. That is quite normal in Nigeria but in some cultures it is a resigning offence What matters is the specific encounter with the officer that stopped him. Was the officer unprofessional or racist? If he was he should file a formal complaint. There is a procedure for that which would be more honourable .These days officers wear body cameras It is reported he paid a fine. Is that true? Why did he pay? That Nigerian culture of picking up the phone to phone the IG because of a PERSONAL matter is not accepted in that culture . It is considered unacceptable and abuse of office It undermines the experience of those people who are genuinely victims of racial profiling when the race card is played in such a cynical way. How would the police Chief know what was going on in the head of the officer that stopped him? The question of being "brought down" is just a victimhood mentality. |

If he wasn’t on the fone at the time the police stopped him why should he even pay the ticket? He said the Fone was in his winter coat inner pocket. Why was he asked then to pay a $300 fine for Smtn he didn’t do and what is wrong with him trying to address it? If the law states go ahead and pay a ticket u were given no matter what or/and address it later then fine. |

sisog70069:The case is far bigger than we thought. Possibly, he was being trailed since he was handling a high profile case. Traps were set, using Double Agents. So unfortunate. It's glaring TRAFFIC VIOLATION wasn't the issue here. He's yet to realise the issues. A bigger case is evolving, and they wouldn't want him to be in charge. Possibly, cases of racial discrimination and segregation. Racism never ends. I won't blame them when we operate its cousin called Tribalism. |

Soulsymbol99:Nothing wrong with that if the facts are genuinely in dispute .He is entitled to a fair hearing It can easily be established from phone records whether or not he was using his phone To some extent there is a cultural blindspot here . He does not seem to get the point that you cannot use your office to solve personal issues as we do in Nigeria and is continuing to justify the action which is causing the problem The traffic violation is not the real issue . I do not think anyone would ask him to step down for that rather it is contacting the Chief of police and his statement reveals he just does not get how they think in that country. As justice Minister the Police Chief might be his subordinate and contacting him on this would be inappropriate 1 Like |
