Arise TV analyst Efeni has called out Atiku and Tinubu to come and present to Nigerians what they can do after Peter Obi gave good account of his plans to their glee and excitement.

We await to see if Atiku and Tinubu can summon the courage and go to Arise TV and marshal out their plans.

Nigerians, the choice is yours. This time around, our president must speak to us.

Buhari version 2.0 must not happen.

I am 100% OBIdient

You are right, (I'm not an Obi supporter but subsidy has to go).

But try supporting subsidy removal in Nigeria....

He did mention that the reason people are protesting against the removal is that all the things the government has ever done isn't felt by the masses from privatization and all, so there is a mistrust from the people about what the government will do with the money as it is a way the common man is benefiting a little. From the interview he already said that before he takes subsidy away, there will be laid down plans for all to see on what the money will be used for. If he removed subsidy and he is able to give us constant light, improve the economy and security, Nigerians will be happy. There will be less generators noise which cause Noise polution everywhere

No matter how hurting it is for the nation's wealth, fuel subsidy is one of the few ways that the government is directly giving back to the people.

I still don't know how we were cajoled to protest against fuel subsidy in 2012 (perhaps except for the looting)

What do I mean? Take a look at the price of our deregulated diesel flying high at #810, 850 and above and see the harsh effect on food prices and cost of long journeys.

If Peter Obi has an alternative to fuel subsidy that the world doesn't know of, he should hint us. It would be disappointing to ride to victory using lies

But you follow protest against subsidy in 2012 and now you say subsidy is necessary. Pick a side. How can we spend more on petrol than on education and health? If there was constant power won't our consumption of fuel reduce.

Let us be honest the subsidy is actually an inflated figure people use to siphon money. I am hoping Obi wins and show how government have been scamming the people.

And mark this, Buhari will be the most corrupt government in the history of Nigeria for a long time (the same corrupt guy claiming he will fight corruption). Abacha's loot will be child's play to what Buhari's administration has stolen

You'd be surprised that if a competent administration enters, you'd find out that this figures they are claiming here isn't even as close to what we are actually spending on the subsidy itself.

I keep saying that EFCC isn't doing enough to curb the out-of-control corruption going on in this Buhari's administration.

If we are lucky enough to have another party aside APC win the 2023 elections, the level of corruption that will be uncovered in this administration will be jaw dropping.
APC was to come in and stop the Corruption of PDP..

Subsidy is a delicate national issue. Until we have local production capcity, its removal will hurt this weak economy.
(***He has emphasized for the umpteenth time that his administration would shift paradigm from sharing and consumption, to production and export***)

Dangote refinery should come on board. FG should strike a contract refining deal with him. He can also be paid for refining with crude oil. That will tremendously reduce pressure on forex and freight costs. It will boost Naira value, as over 50% of our forex goes to oil importation.

That is the only way subsidy can be addressed.

But it has to go first...so that someone would refine fuel at N200 and sell at N230 to marketers and then marketers can sell at N250-300 (FIGURES GIVEN ARE HYPOTHETICAL...although domestic refining of fuel should not cost less than N200 a liter) so that the profit would be there to build, maintain and upgrade refining potential in this country.

We are using the money we could have used for more refineries on subsidy, and have been doing so for decades. And apart from Dangote and a few others, no one wants to come and invest in refinery, refine fuel at N200 and more, per liter and sell it at N165 or less....and lose money.

Once the refineries can produce enough to take care of national needs the government should remove subsidy.....for a nation where most people are poor and energy comes mainly from generators subsidy is the only direct benefit the citizens enjoy......

In the meantime government should audit companies receiving the subsidy.....invest in nnpc refineries so they can at least work at 80% capacity and encourage private investments in petrochemicals

The issue of subsidy is not complex. It's simple poor man doesn't benefit from subsidy only the middle class do

Most trucks used to transport goods and materials use diesel and diesel has been deregulated since

Ghana has no subsidy , Benin Togo , Niger , chad , Cameroon and they are not dead we won't die but

we have to have a leader that's accountable to allow that

I don't doubt the figure because of the massive bunkering activities taking place at our borders. The truth is that subsidy must go, market forces should be allow to determine prices, this will reduce bunkering of petrol.
Re: Peter Obi Speaks On Petrol Subsidy by SIRTee15: 2:10pm On Jul 06, 2022
The biggest headache we having with subsidy ATM is that we importing fuel at international prices. As the price of crude oil goes up and Naira gets weaker, FG will pay more for subsidy.
building local capacity will eliminate both problems. Even if they are private refineries like dangote, govt can enter contract to refine crude oil at fixed cost for domestic consumption. That's what's done in Iran and saudi arabia. this will eliminate pressure on our forex and oil shocks.
Removing subsidy with fiat and telling us bobo about investing in other sectors will not sit well with Nigerians who will bear the brunt of inflation and weaker naira.

Talk is cheap.
Even the western countries and the US,the most capitalist sets in the world and the chief advocates of subsidy removal, with the suffering their citizens are experiencing and the increasing protests are looking for ways to subsidise cost of fuel.
Some have even started subsiding it by directly giving cash incentives for their citizens to buy fuel.
countries that are subsidizing it are those that do not have the black gold... How much is fuel in Russia, venezuela and other oil producing countries.

He will use the money to build sustainable roads, that will make vehicles to stop getting spoilt on our roads due to bad roads and goods will also arrive on time..
