Due to lawlessness and ineffective implementation of laws in the country, anyone can easily fleece you including those so called companies you are talking about. These companies will even overcharge you for a project you would have spent far less to complete. They will as well buy poor materials and build under the guise of being professionals without any form of integrity, transparency and accountability. All the substandard infrastructure you see there were built by the same so called construction companies. The best thing to do is to either take a time off to go there yourself to supervise the procurement and actual construction process. Better still you can hire different middlemen to supervise your project while you are out there hustling. After all, you will be creating employment opportunities for people to ease the survival for the fittest lifestyle in the jungle.

This is bad, but the situation is not hopeless, I have built more than 30 houses for people that are living abroad, I never got to meet most of them till I completed the buildings. The whole projects are here on this forum, and I am still working on about 8 building projects right now.

People should be truthful with people so that we can all have a good society where trust and honesty rules.

Yes, I agree .... When one family member makes it and the siblings despite their struggles can't boast of much deserves significant help.... This includes parents, they should no longer be in rented apartment which may come with some embarrassment ... Mine can't be in old people's home when they can be in my own house.... That is why it is good to pray to be COMFORTABLE...A big house can at least also accommodate parents.....Though as one is climbing up, be helping siblings so they too stand on their feet on time and not be envious.

All in all, marrying an accommodating spouse matters a lot- not the one that will say me and my kids, husband/ wife alone .... Though family mustn't be over demanding... Everybody must know their boundaries including wife and mother....husband and dad

Get a lawyer, find a young engineer or architect with a registered company, give them a contract with documents SIGNED AND SEALED, complete strangers will deliver your building for you because if they fail, you can have their asses jailed.

Trust. Obinna must have been a sweet little baby brother when she left over 40 years ago. May be even born after she left. She might be the Ada of the family.

She left when family still meant trust. Probably during Shagari regime. Her elderly parents always confirmed all was in order she said. Until you are that situation, you won't know. It is far more common than you think. In fact of those I know who left 9ja before until about 15 years ago, virtually everyone suffered various degrees and versions of this lady's story. Sadly, nothing special about her story. I know dozens in real life. Even within my extended family, some did worse than this.

This case is only pathetic for one reason in my view. Forget the phonair and wig, this an elderly woman, tired and exhausted after decades of labour in US. If she was a teacher or nurse, policewoman or immigration officer in 9ja, she would have already retired years ago. This big mansion would have been her tangible reward for decades of work.
But at least she has a waterlogged piece of land.

It is not unusual to see people who are 62 to 65 who look like her. Some look even younger. Remove the make up and wig and see. I have people in America who left 9ja in late 70s and early 80s, completed their degrees, had a family but never came for 30 years. A few still have not come until now. Especially those whose parent had died in their absence. They are many in USA.

It happened to me. Cousin sent me some cash and I wanted to do a business with it, make some profit and bank his money again before he needs the cash but I was duped.
