You get a matured female family member to talk to her. Porn is mostly a male problem. So if a girl is heavily invested it, it may just be that she is too curious about s*x. Get a female member of the family to talk to her or if you can afford a female counsellor (this would be better). She is your family and right now she needs your help. 1 Like |

At that age dem no dey hear word. Immediately after defending her in front of the family, you should have called her aside I tell her that you know what is happening. Be empathetic and tell her you passed through that phase but it was affecting your self esteem and stuff like that, but you overcame it and become better. If you are a good role model, she might listen, if not set firewall in the router and blacklist those sites. |

questioner: My mum has people staying with her - my niece, an extended family member and a close family friend and her daughter. We are okay with it cos it ensures she always has company and reduces the need to always travel to check on her.
Recently the monthly subscription I do on the router at home, which usually has carry over data by the time it expires, now lasts about a week before they start calling me to renew Everybody in the house denied being the cause of the data drain.
Last week, I came to spend some days at my mum's and first thing I did was to install a network tracker to monitor. Long story short, I discovered the excessive consumption was from my niece but that's not the major issue. She was visiting porn sites which was draining data but that's still not the major prob. My problem was the frequency and how long she spent on porn daily.
The day I came, after she retreated to her room, the porn streaming started and didn't stop until the family member sharing a room with her came back at night. The next morning once the other lady left for work, she continued with the porn until it was time to leve for her lessons. Once she came back in the afternoon, she did some chores, ate, sat around the sitting room for a while and went inside and boom the porn resumed until the other girl came around hours later. This was practically the routine for the 4 days I stayed there.
The day I was to leave I told my mum that I observed the drain came from my niece and blocked her from the router. She called my niece and questioned her but she denied knowing anything about it, I spared her blushes by saying sometimes apps have background processes that consume data without the owner knowing.
Ever since, I have been wondering if I handled the situation properly. I didn't confront her about it cos I was concerned about the embarrassment she will feel for a male family to find out about her secret. She might even assume I have told my mum or my elder bro (her dad), which might weigh her down emotionally.
Also, I am concerned if this is a sign of promiscuity, she will be 17 next month And aside the fact that she's quite tall, she might as well pass for a 14 year old. She's barely endowed for her age- bottomline, not the kind of girl, you will associate with waywardness.
My question is 1. Would it have been better if I had confronted her 2. Is this a possible sign of promiscuity ? - if so, I will suggest mum sends her back to her Dad cos I am not sure at her advanced age she should be dealing with issues like this, to avoid stories that touch later on You can block X rated sited on the router and worse case scenario, block her Mac address. As for the lady, you have to handle it with maturity or in prayers. It's difficult to handle such without embarrassing such people. As Ravi said, only God can correct you without humilating you. |

17 is too young to be addicted to porn. Infact any age at that matter. Porn addiction like every other form of addiction causes more havoc than good. The family need to save her from it before it becomes too late and difficult. Get a matured and sensible female family member to counsel her and make her see reasons why she needs to stop. It has to be on her own terms though not forcefully, if not she will find another way to access porn. |

I REMEMBER HOW WE USED TO DESTROY OUR VCR'S DUE TO OVER PLAYING OF BLUE FILMS
I REMEMBER HOW WE USED TO PLAY MUMMY AND DADDY WITH OUR FEMALE FRIENDS
YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT ITS PORN SHE IS WATCHING AND NOT DISTRIBUTING HER KUKUNASE UP AND DOWN
YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLED HER AND TALKED TO HER IN A POLITE AND DIGNIFIED WAY AND MAKE HER UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S JUST A PHASE SHE PASSING THRU AND LET HER KNOW YOU HAVE BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT WHEN YOU WERE HER AGE AND MAKE HER SEE THE DANGERS OF EXCESSIVE PORN AND W@NKING 1 Like |

Please, confront her, but lovingly. Don't condemn her. Tell her about your own struggle with porn. And advise her to quit it. Threaten to put a secret hidden tracker on her phone without her knowledge that will let you see whatever she views on her phone. She will NOT view porn on that phone anymore. But she may borrow or buy another phone to feed and fuel her addiction. The best solution is for her to give her life to Jesus Christ and to seek deliverance. Peace. 1 Like |

People sabi give rubbish advice here. Majority of Nigerians brains are suspect. My friend she is a kid and in a loving way approach her. Assure her you won’t discuss the issue with anybody and tell her the huge disadvantage of pornography. One disadvantage is that it gives an unrealistic picture of sex, then the young person that have built an idea on pornography wouldn’t know how really to handle relationship. Another thing is that she may compare her body with that of the pornstars and feel she is inadequate. She may also want to try out many outrageous sexual fallacy and end up injuring herself or feeling inadequate if she can’t perform them. Pornography too is addictive like drugs. The fact you got away from it doesn’t mean others too will. For example, I did drugs while growing and it wasn’t hard for me to stop the vice. But then you know it’s not that way for many others. Since she is close to you and she is a minor, do something to help her Oga you are speaking grammar, I repeat, no amount of advice will make are stop watching porn for now, the only thing your advice will do to her to is shatter her self esteem.... Maybe men are more vulnerable to porn at that Age than women because of their makeup. Also the cultural expectations could be helpful or may not be helpful. Also the easy access to porn on the internet makes it easier to become addicted and the business model creates competition among the porn actors and actresses, which also put them at risk of dying earlier. And addicted individual are at risk of treating others as sex objects. Children are at risk of being exposed to predators also. The summary, its not a healthy addiction. That Child needs some therapy. At least to understand herself. Samantha124: But I was also a teenager when the whole thing happened... |

You handled the matter well bro. But you should have talked to her about it. Advise her to stop before the habit ruins her and her future. She's already getting addicted at a very young age. And you know what it means... Pornography is a tool the devil uses to cage great people. Before you know it, masturbation comes along, fornication, lesbianism and all vices! I can tell you for sure that she needs help and sincere advice. Confront her politely and tell her the truth behind this negative habits. It will destroy her life if she does not stop. Please, make out time, go and talk to her physically. It will do slot of good. Call her occasionally to check on her to make sure she has stopped.
