There’s a brother of mine who’s been admitted to the hospital for about a week now. Man is pain.

He’s always been diabetic but the foot got worse this past week and he’s been admitted. Unable to eat and sleep. I’m really scared for him.

Doctor gave advice that the foot is amputated to prevent the spread to the entire leg, but his families are objecting to this saying that they’d prefer to treat him.

My question is, is it best to treat him or get the leg amputated?

What are the chances of his survival doctors in the house?

You guys can still research but keep your doctor's informed whatsoever you are trying. Ketogenic diet, carnivore diet and all of that in the time being but all these depends on the severity of the situation at hand cause they don't give results overnight.

It’s over a week now and he’s in pain. embarassed

I’m not in the hospital as I’m in another state and I’ve not been comfortable with what I’m hearing about the whole thing.
Pls try homeopathic treatment. Someone close to me is using homeopathic drugs.... For a case doctors advised outright surgery. We are almost out of the woods with less stress.

As of 2002 we spent around N5m on surgery, coupled with expensive drugs from USA to sustain my dad that had type A diabetes and his leg was written off, due to how bad(rotten) the leg was.

It took the help of top doctors around Nigeria to successfully operate on the leg.

As of the current state of Nigeria in this 2023, if they can budget N25m to N50m, then he will be fine.

Only money fit revive that leg

I've seen and supervised a few that were saved .
Some are just a waste of time and money. They end up chopped.

An expert who has examined your brother gave his opinion on his medical situation, you now come here seeking for people's opinions so as to justify your preference of not wanting the leg amputated. Please advise your family to take to the doctor's recommendation if not the consequences will be worse than amputation

If you have the resources, please try stem cells. There are lots of testimonies of terrible conditions reversed. My brother is undergoing the treatment.

It can be managed with a good dietician and medication but once there's a relapse, it's a problem

Best amputated before it has sepsis which will will kill him

Why did he let it get to that level?

Some people don't like themselves. I know people who have been diabetic for years and they have healthy legs.

Pray not to experience it. I know someone whose children are wealthy and be taking care of her in the US still, life happens to her

At this stage, you can just pray. My Dad had his amputated last year and he didn't survive it. After spending over a million naira on surgery and drugs. I am sure he would still be here if we had continued managing it as before

No, you cannot be sure about that. Amputation is often the only way to save your life.
Re: Can A Diabetic Foot Be Treated Or Best Amputated? by stasius: 4:12pm On Sep 23, 2023
It depends on the stage.
If you go early No amputation.

If you go late, amputation is usually inevitable.

Bro don't amputate anything yet. Stop spending money in that hospital. Make your enquiries asap. I saw one young man like that in general hospital umuahia (2015). He was to be amputated and the guy refused. He said he will rather take poison than to be amputated. He was later discharged and the family took him to one hospital in ozuakoli. I think it's owned by Methodist Church. The indian doctor there treated him and the whole sore was healed. He is back to his foot.

One or more toes completely black ?
Odour unbearable ?
Signs of systemic illness ?

If yes then amputation would be best

Life in reality is really tasking
That's why we need more patience and ask questions before getting married.

Not only genotype should be worrying us, there are lot more.

OP, I heard that those things are incurable but sometimes manageable but when it's beyond that it's only amputation.

Replies to posts like these trouble me. So much misinformation from people who have 0 clue what they are talking about. And that they are giving it on life/death/medical issues is more troubling.

There are a lot of support groups/websites/forums dedicated to people with diabetes. If you can't get a 2nd opinion from a doctor you trust, I would post on one of those forums and see if someone has dealt with it firsthand.

Goodluck and prayers up for your family.

From your write up i can tell the link you posted has to do with church palava.

My sister, what the man needs right now is medical treatment, not miracle.

We are still where we are, all because we carry church matter for head, and even the church matter, we know absolutely nothing about it.

From morning till night you guys are praying, yet nothing is happening, or changing.

Please advice them to amputate it, my beloved mother God rest her soul died due to this same thing, we thought we could treat her but the treatment would seem like the sore is healing but meanwhile na Sepsis go end the person life, organic failure as a result of septic shock!
You should advice the family, amputation might be the best option for the said person

Depends on how far the gangrene has gone and if it's determined the diabetes cannot or is getting difficult to control.
Once it's determined to be gangrene, amputation is the best course of action to save the patient's life because you are looking at essentially a dead foot, toe or even leg still being harboured by the body.
The "deadness" would continue spreading because it's caused by toxins that have essentially eaten up the flesh. They rapidly multiply and look for other healthy parts to continue guzzling up till they basically shut down the person's entire system.
But of course,a doctor can only advice a patient on what he/she considers the best course of action to preserve life first and health as best as possible. The decision cannot be forced or imposed on the person so long he/she has been made aware of possible outcomes of refusing a course of management.
Wishing your friend the best but still tell him the risk to his life, unless it's not gangrene.

The 3 D's of amputation
Dead limb, Dangerous limb and Damn nuisance
