Licenses are quoted and paid for in dollars. Equipment imported and paid for in dollars. Expatriate staff paid in dollars. Oil servicing and maintenance paid in dollars. Loans and interests are in dollars. So they are right. It is expected. |

tsdarkside: Are exploration licences not paid for in dollars? That is even FG was paid in dollars. Are expatriate staff not paid in dollars? Are loans not taken in dollars to build refineries? See, business is business. Remove emotions. Few things are done in the local currency. Like local staff salaries and some (not all) services. |

“ Responding to the concerns raised, the Chief Executive of the NUPRC, Gbenga Komolafe, said any company that fails to respond to a request for production within a specified period is liable to pay an administrative fine of $10,000 to the NUPRC and shall not be granted an export permit”. So how can they help the naira with this? Why not pay the fine in the Nigerian naira? The Indians, Chinese, etc, pay their charges in their local currencies, helping their nations to strengthen their currency. |

I have an idea. Why not scrap the naira and let us start using the dollar as our currency since everyone is going mad about the dollar. Rubbish. Afghanistan's Afghani became the highest performing currency in the world just a few weeks ago. It performed even better than the USD. How did they do it? They criminalized the spending of dollar in their country and this reduced drastically the demand for the dollar. Why can't we do same here? Oh I remember the politicians demanded dollar bribes during the last elections and many have dollars stashed away in foreign currencies overseas so how can the dollar fall because the same people are in government? |
Re: Local Crude Producers Demand Payment In Dollars by otomatic(m): 10:21am On Nov 03, 2023 |
tsdarkside: If you don't hire them and you can't get those skills locally, how will you run the operation. Hiring expatriates helps to transfer needed skills to local staff. Bringing in families was not for pity bro. I meant that is one reason people may have to repatriate money to their home countries. Crude oil is an international commodity and international trades are not quoted in Naira. |
Re: Local Crude Producers Demand Payment In Dollars by AbuAeesha: 10:24am On Nov 03, 2023 |
will it be a bad idea if we just start using dollar as our national currency? since most part of our economy is depending on dollar and we will stop all these comparism & inferiority complex |
Re: Local Crude Producers Demand Payment In Dollars by benardtotti(m): 10:31am On Nov 03, 2023 |
dallyemmy: Actually we will still pay the dollar equivalent of a barrel of oil in naira, you don't expect them to sell oil to ýou below the going market rate . What is most important is for cbn to offer the refiners the money at the official rate of 750 to a dollar. |

Why should they demand payment in Dollars in Nigeria? Are they paying their workers in Nigeria in Dollars? |
