Under that era Nigeria was practicing parliamentary system of government and the prime minister was the head of government, so Tafawa Balewa was the head of government, Azikiwe was a ceremonial head, who had no say, so displaying your ignorance, it's obvious your parents wasted money sending you to school. epainos: |

GanagiBitrus: If one region keeps producing president, and Nigeria keeps moving forward without hunger and hardship, Nigerians won't be worried about rotation. What will you gain to have a president from your region and yet facing corruption amd hardship in your region and country 1 Like |

These are the kind of laws that promise so much only to lead to complete destruction of the state. We are already suffering from a emilokan mindset and now this legislator want to transfer it from mindset to law to enshrine it as it were. So that our elections will not be fitting round peg in round hole, it will become fitting goepolitical peg in round hole A politician will just sit back, buy bag of rice for his village people and get popular there and know that once his turn reach his village people will now present him to the nation and the nation will have no other options than to vote for him. What could be more undemocratic than that. No incentive to play opposition, no semblance of choice, only career politician will have the chance of winning, no hope of technocratic government because maybe the vest man for the job is from another gpz, or because the local politician will not give way because of how long he will have to wait to get another chance. Political violence and desperation because you have only one chance in 24 year or rather 48 years. Legislator were no the think about future, bill that even him will not be able to benefit from |

Lol. So the whole vote Obi "to save Nigeria" was nothing but a vote Obi "to give us Igbo presidency" Well, even in the unlikely event that this bill scales through, Obi can't still win in 2027 or any other time, as long as he's not running unopposed. Even if he runs unopposed, I still don't see him winning 5 Likes 1 Share |

Coolsphinx: So you didnt know hausa and igbo were dominating even in the military then. But now, you don lose out. Gowon and Awolowo messed you up. Lol! Of course, Igbo thought presidency had power, but was that the reason you hijacked it from the north? And you had the first military president na. You are the one showing greediness here. I have written about this issue in the past how your greediness killed you. And thank you for stating it here. Lol. You will contest an election with the SS and SW. Nothing you can do about it. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Good move. I support this bill. Challenge is those who benefit from the lopsided setting as practiced today by virtue of their privilege numerical strength would make sure the bill dies |

I seriously doubt this bill will pass the first reading because it disenfranchises people and hinders participation. Democratic tenets are based upon the following four conditions 1. Free and fair elections 2. Civil liberties 3. Universal participation 4. Responsible /accountable government Therefore, the house of Rep member is pursuing an exercise in futility 3 Likes 1 Share |

People just criticizing but tbh I can see the merit in the bill. Considering the home state, Benue, of the sponsor for instance, there are three other ethnic groups but the Tivs have used thier numerical advantage to consistently hold on to power, which is not fair. |

franudi:Or do you want to write that why should it come to the south? Go flex your muscles na with the northern population. It was agreed that the northern population put them at an advantage, and to prevent the southern from breaking away, the north also agreed informally that they will keep sharing power with the south. 1 Like 1 Share |

Fareke:Nonsensical bill that's already dead on arrival. What is democratic about that? If the power becomes rotational in that manner, then there is no democratic presidential election again because the elected president on that platform is not going to be governing the geo-political zone he or she comes from alone. He or she is the president of Nigeria and by that standard, should be chosen by all Nigerians concerned through election. They should instead legislate for decentralization of presidential power but for their parochial interest in centralization of power, they won't do so. Bunch of idiots! 1 Like |

In bid to avert return of regional Gov't, this bill will duly give a sense of belonging to all geo-political zone. I support it and hope our senators see reason and pass it into law https://punchng.com/2027-bill-seeks-to-stop-nwest-swest-ssouth-from-presidential-election/[/quote] |

GanagiBitrus: Rotation will not be without voting. As long as the president will be determined by votes, and every region will be required to vote, then this bill is definitely a fluke. You want to ban a geopolitical zone from contesting but want them to vote. What matters is for each region to behave themselves and play the politics the right way. 1 Like |

Cmanforall: If one region keeps producing President & Nigeria keeps moving forward without Hunger, Nigerians will be happy. But that's not the reality on ground so Nigerians are not happy. I proposed 2options - Rotational Presidency or Regionalisation. If some regions believe they have the best hands, then they should opt for Regionalisation so that they can turn their region into Dubai & become the envy of other regions. |

ojasweb: You are talking more of politics than humanity. Look, Nigeria came into existence via a forced Union of Diverse ethnic nationalities & it's only sensible that such groups have a say in how they wish to co-exist peacefully as one nation. But, If you feel rotational presidency is not good enough, I gave an option of regional government which I believe will engender healthy competition & make every region to strive to be self-sufficient. You would be surprised the progress made by each region after a decade. 1 Like |
