Chinkoalhaji34: I totally disagree in so many ways. First let me go personal will you throw away your turn? Any legitimate zone will always shop for the best representative from their zone. It will reduce the general suffering of every one due to unnecessary court issues as that will be limited to the zone. |

Justiceleague1: Assuming the North were insanely illogical as you assume, Tinubu for no smell presidency. Even Ahmed Lawan would have taken over from Buhari, not to talk of Atiku (Because retaining power in the North would have mattered most irrespective of competence). Thankfully, we had Northern leaders who insisted it should move to the South. The Pros of zoning would far outweigh the cons. When a zone knows it potentially has 40 years to produce candidates, the wheat will definitely be separated from the chaff. And even after emergence, the enormous expectations in terms of performance would provide no room for mediocrity, as non-performers would been thrown out to shorten the waiting time for other zones. 1 Like 1 Share |

Justiceleague1: What is wrong with NE producing the next president? Is there a law that says Tinubu must do 2 terms? You have a right to contest but you earn the privilege to be president. Oga this is a democracy, you get more votes you win….end of story! Elections are about votes not turn by turn, not tribe, not zone. Atiku contested, if not for the shortsightedness, impatience, lack of foresight and sabotage by Obi, Atiku a northerner, will be president today, turn of the south or no turn of the south, emilokan or no emilokan. It is how many votes you have that makes you president. North can rule 40 years at a stretch and heavens will not fall. South can rule 40 years straight and heavens will not fall. Why? Because north cannot become president without the south and the south cannot become president without the North. So if a southerner or a northerner is in power it is because that zone has broad support. What you cannot do is think you can be president by alienating others and then try to force yourself on other by law. 3 Likes 1 Share |

yinkus6750: It's only Fula and Nurudeen Yaribawa politrickcians that will go against the proposed nice amendment. The two groups led by Tinubu and Buhari have established a method for Muslims to preside over Nigeria in an uninterrupted 24 years viz: Buhari 8 years, Tinubu 8 years, Shettima 8 years. These two groups want to use the Taliban method to get Islamic Republic of Nigeria through use of government institutions. The Taliban of Afghanistan 🇦🇫 first went out to win and occupy important political offices in Afghanistan, after which they used Afghan government institutions to prosecute their war for Afghanistan to be governed with Islamic Sharia criminal laws that include stoning blasphemous person to death, stoning women to death for adultery etc. |

GanagiBitrus:great. But they would also ensure that learned and educated, experienced persons attain the office. So we don’t repeat the mistake of fielding a cow induced goat like Buhari the brain dead president. |

GanagiBitrus: We are of the same view but still we must acknowledge reality. Politics anywhere in the world is not entirely played on humanity ground. A lot of dark deals are done behind the scenes. Requesting for a ban on certain regions is not being realistic. It will be like forcing other regions to accept whoever is presented. Yes, regional government will be the best we can advocate for and it will still be a very difficult demand. |
Re: Ojema Ojetu Sponsors Bill Seeking To Stop NW, SS, SW From Presidential Election by GanagiBitrus: 11:27am On Mar 03 |
Codes151: All the parties will still field their respective candidates from that region. I don't want to believe all those candidates would be brain-dead. It will now be left to Nigerians to vote their choice, & in this case there will be less voting along tribal/religious lines. The pressure to rig in other regions will also be less. Alternatively Regional Government is still a viable option. |

I absolutely love this bill. Long overdue. No zone or tribe in Nigeria has the monopoly of having highly qualified and competent people who can run the affairs of this country or their respective state. Every other tribe or zone also have qualified and competent people but the zones or tribe with highest population tend to take undue advantage of their large population to suppress and marginalise minority tribes who, in some cases, are even the economic backbone of the nation or state. Nigeria cannot make progress and remain stable if every tribe does not have a sense of belonging and feel fairly treated. And one of the ways to ensure this happens is by making sure there is a law that mandates that power be rotated among the geopolitical zones. Instead of two terms of four years, I would recommend one term of six years. After six years the president would hand over power to another person from a zone that has not produced a president yet. And no political parties should be allowed to field a candidate from a zone that has already produced a democratic president until all the zones that have not produced a president have produced one. I know ethnic chauvinists and bigots won't like or support this type of bill because they believe their tribes are the only one that must rule the country. But we can't and must not continue like this! And some will argue that it is competence and qualification of the candidate we should be thinking about and my question is: what makes you think its only your tribe that can produce competent and qualified people to occupy the position of the president? You are either naive or insincere if you can't see that the people from the minority tribes will never have opportunity to also rule this country (no matter how competent or qualified they are) has long has people from the majority tribes keep coming out to contest, and we all know the average Nigerian vote according to tribal and religious sentiment rather than competence of the candidate. Hence, the need for this law. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Tonytonex: The North are the most likely to agree. You'd be surprised those likely to resist it are the politically myopic South especially the West and East who live to sabotage one another. If the North never considered such principle, another Northerner would have been president today. |

Re: Ojema Ojetu Sponsors Bill Seeking To Stop NW, SS, SW From Presidential Election by Justiceleague1: 1:04pm On Mar 03 |
NaMe4:The east will have no business opposing the bill. The truth is, only the north will support this bill. The entire south should rally round together and aslo rally the middle belt people and completely reject the bill. It is a pure northern bill and agenda. Arewa consultative forum is run by the core north. What they do is,they make thread someone from the lesser north - a Christian or someone from the middle belt the chairman and spokesperson but the main agenda is for the core north. So getting someone from Benue to do their dirty job ain't surprising. |

Chinkoalhaji34:All regions have good candidates If it gets to the turn of your region and you decide to present Anini or Tinubu, Na u sabi I was discussing this with a friend of mine just last week here Let the presidency be rotated every 12years between South and North That 12years, it should go round with the 3 zones of that region 4years each for each zone Then we will now break it down to states State that produced will not produce again when it gets to their zone until it has rotated across all states in that region That's the only way this country can stand as one |

How can you sponsor a bill that is in direct contravention of constitutional provisions, basic democratic principles and the fundamental human rights of everyone above certain age and qualifications being able to vote and be voted for, in a democratic government? How do you elect people who don't know what democracy means as lawmakers? Only in Nigeria. This will be trashed in the bin where it belongs immediately. 2 Likes 1 Share |
