Ok. Episode 8 of Shogun done ✅ I am not understanding something here, did Tonaraga conspire with that old man to commit sepakku or what. Because I am not understanding the weird love these Japanese people have with killing themselves

Catching up on the last 2 lastest episodes of Shōgun and i must say these Japanese Mfs take honour and loyalty, a little too real and overboard 😩😩.

At any slightest inconvenience....."I want to commit Seppuku"......like chill bro, 😩.

The show runners have done a good job so far, cramping a massive 1,100 page book into what would be a 10 episode limited series run, meaning they went straight to the heart of the story to capture the very essence of the book, with no unnecessary detour.

and i also like how the entirety of the show, is mostly based on political wriggling, impact of cultural clash and imperialism and all the subtle scheming and backstabbing going on, as opposed to actual pillaging, war and all out violence, like the premise would suggest, in a brilliant way i might add, that it doesn't comes off as boring or tedious to sit through.

A massive last 2 episodes in the offing i deduce. A brilliant brilliant show so far

lol apparently, utmost loyalty and honour is a very big part of the Japanese culture, albeit, the Seppuku bit, is a bit rare in modern times, but still happens in rural areas that still follow the old way, from what i read awhile back.

Commiting Seppuku aside, bringing shame and dishonour to one's person, place of work or family, is kind of an everlasting social stigma in Japan and that's why the average Japanese is so so disciplined to a fault, but they are becoming more liberal tho.

Rewatching The Americans rn after so many years.

1) Enjoyed far better than I did on the first watch. I thought it was really good when I watched it years ago. Now, I think it's Goated.

2) How did I miss that their daughter Paige was soooooo annoying. The girl's been getting on my nerves since season 2.
I dumb breaking bad at season 4 cos I was not feeling it

Go back to it this week currently in season 3 and I'm totally loving it so far

Dark S1-S3 (2017 - 2020).

Man can do what he wills but he cannot will what he wills." - Arthur Schopenhauer.

Seeing the S1-S3 of this back to back, has to be the most exhilarating, most exciting and yet the most exhausting ride i have been on in recent time, whilst seeing a piece of television.

This does a marvelous job of incorporating pieces of theoretical physics into it's storyline viz a viz, time travel, theory of relativity, bootstrap paradox and in the most simplest terms, the continuous running gag of "The Chicken and the egg, which comes first?". it takes great creative liberties to ensure some of the exaggerated part of the plot, stayed within the confines of plausible scientific theories, and doesn't distort the story telling in any way.

Excellent first and second season, but it almost fell of the wagon in the third season, and i can't lie, they almost lost me, with so many time jumps, and so many character intersecting loops, but it pays of big, as they were able to stick a plausible landing, in the end.

The writing is of the finest, is like the show runners actually travelled in time, gained all knowledge and were able to write this masterpiece as a result!, so good. Special praise for the casting as well, each past, present and future self of the same character were so similar facially that you'd, actually think, they all share the same DNA in real life, Top tier Casting!

A compelling blend of science fiction and mystery. An easy recommend if you like mind binding concepts, time travel, phycological thrillers, but I'd suggest you see all 3 seasons back to back, and if you ever get lost, there is an official website and tonnes of materials and articles, to help you find your way....

solid solid show ...an unprecedented all timer ✨ ⌛

8.5/10.

You can check "12 monkeys" the TV series as well, very underrated.

As simple as that.
Imagine that guy in the first episode who had to die along with his infant child, for basically speaking out of terms

Go and read about Japans pearl harbour attack on america in WW2 that resulted in america angrily dropping a nuke on Japan which consequently led to their capitulation.
The japanese pilots intentionally/suicidally crashed their planes into the harbour, they called it the "kamikaze attacks"
So seppku/suicide is a big part of the japanese culture, they started it before all this allahu akbar ppl

Those clowns that compared this mid series to GOT. How do y'all feel now?

7 episodes in, still nothing intriguing about it. I regret giving it a 7/10 rating, should have been less.
Remember its just starting , got started getting interesting from season 2_3..

° Brodaman, You need to understand they run a military kind of system. Soldiers and police die for the citizens, bodyguards die for ... The lower cadre put down their lives for higher cadre, those security details following politicians will put down their lives for those they are guarding. That's why there's treason, insubordination against the state, law, and higher commanding order. He knows his duty, he is giving his life for a greater purpose same way religious extremist and military personnel think.
You know their meaning of death is different, death can come any time because of tsunami and earthquake, so why make earth a home when you can enjoy the moment while it lasts. °

lmaoo. It literally has 2 episodes more to go and that's it, no further season. Now if someone is saying the show is not "intriguing" so far, then they are probably viewing it from a different "lens" because the entire political and power meanuvre that is one of the main Pillars of GOT, is basically what Shōgun has been serving us deliciously for the past 8 episodes, so people expecting some sort of "big bang" to make the show "intriguing" for them are probably seeing the wrong show.

Comparing this to GOT, side by side even, is even a mismatch imo, because GOT had a large volume of source material to chew from, hence ample time for proper world building and character development.

It brings to mind my recent reading of recent comments of people saying "DUNE: Part 2" is boring because they expected some sort of intergalactic space and desert war unending for 2hours plus!, meanwhile, it was the best adaptation of a book Hollywood has seen for a while and probably my fave film this year, thus far.

Case in point. Shōgun is almost 100% similar to one of the fundamentals that made GOT, great, which is the power tussle and political rogbodiyan. The remaining aspects of GOT outside this are the Fantasy aspect of which Shōgun is not a fantasy piece. So the comparism of Shôgun to GOT is not far fetched and is very valid!.

Omo... The expanse is such a good series man. Season one was very good. Season two cool off a bit, then season 3 moved things into a higher gear.

Still on season 3, loving every minute of it.
