We talking about their profit in the Nigerian market and you are posting me global profit.

Netflix came to Nigeria with grassroot nollywood in mind. That was why they acquired lionheart. But it's not clear whether Igbo producers in Asaba Enugu and Lagos are interested based on profitability issues. Today, 98% of Nollywood fans don't even have neflix account. Amazon prime discovered that early and left before making commitments.

They should all learn from canal plus who acquired iroko and allowed Njoku to run it. Today, ROK has overtaken African Magic in viewership to the extent that the company wants to acquire DSTV itself.

Lol he said Nigeria market. Don’t they post those movies on Netflix global? You think only Nigerians living in Nigeria watch them?

You don’t understand the business. Most Nigeria entertainment industries (Music and Movies) get their patronage from Nigerians in diaspora. Now I’m not talking about volume but actual money.

Take Afro beats for example, all those shows and mad money artist make are due to Nigeria population in diaspora. If Wizkid do 100 show in Lagos, he will make more money than that by only doing one show in Atlanta.

Netflix/Prime usually appeal more to Nigerians/Africans in diaspora. Those are the people pushing the numbers up. We pray Nigeria get to the level where we have high purchasing power in the country. But for now, diaspora people are part of the huge numbers.

Also, YouTube is the destination that most Nigeria producers make money for those Nollywood Yoruba/asaba.

Always competing with Igbos.

In the film industry, Igbos wanna make money so they make LOTS of small movies. Its all about quantity by small time producers to make money
No one is competing with you.

That's not the issue. The big question should be, is Netflix making profit?
Everything points to the fact these streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon prime are struggling and aren't getting enough stream numbers. Who pays 5k only to watch overhyped movies with expensive data. Amazon prime is exiting the country and Netflix will do so when they recover their capital.

Netflix is watched all over the world not in Nigeria alone.

The list is actually top 10 Nigerian movies watched by Nigerians on Netflix. The op didn't edit the thread properly.

I don't see how I be paying subscription for Netflix just to watch Nigerian movies. I know that they're seriously improving, but they're not there yet.

No. It simply means that Nigerian have no music industry. Music shows in US count In US GDP not Nigeria. The crappy songs they sing and call afro beat don't inspire people to spend money on. Even their headdies is done in US. The crap they release is only for people who can afford luxury. That's why the Nigerians in diaspora are the only ones patronising them. Gospel musician make more money from the Nigerian market than Afro beat.

I always say it. The only industry making money for the country is Nollywood. Unfortunately, not the noisy Netflix and cinema nollywood. Most nollywood movies are patronised abroad including YouTube movies. But grassroot nollywood is heavily patronised in Nigeria and Africa unlike Netflix and cinema movies that are more noisy than profitable.

Yes what’s wrong with my statement? Oba of Benin spoke carelessly and we insulted him so his sense can go back to default.

Ever since then, have you seen him speak carelessly again about Yorubaland?

Most nollywood movies are patronised abroad including YouTube movies. But grassroot nollywood is heavily patronised in Nigeria and Africa unlike Netflix and cinema movies that are more noisy than profitable.

Now I see you don’t know what you are talking about. There are two things involved, “volume” and “actual revenue”.

—Before Nigeria broke into the international scene, people back home go to shows and buy their albums. Infact our artist visit universities to hold shows back then and they are being patronized. Even till today, Nigerians still patronize Nigeria music. Just that it is volume and not neccessarily as profitable as them doing it in diaspora.

—What changed was when afrobeat crossed the continent. Nigerians/Africans in diaspora with better purchasing power gave the artist the means to realize mad revenue because of the show money they charge in foreign currency.

@the bolded, I now confirm you don’t know what you are saying. Most black Americans here love Afrobeat like mad. Infact the last time Davido was in Atlanta at State Farm arena. The over 18k capacity got sold out completely. Below is my ticket to the venue and average price is $100 upward (multiply 18000*$100). You think na only Nigeria fully the 18k capacity? You are probably an unexposed guy which explain why can can say this.

What is called grassroot Nollywood? How much can you make from those useless movies? I even thought I’m arguing with someone wey sabi business and entertainment industry.
